Given the success of old AV and the community’s love of old Ashran, what are everyone’s thoughts on ‘endless battlegrounds’ being added into the rotation as off-week brawls?
eg. the rotation would look like this:
Week 1: Winter Arathi Basin Week 2 (off-week, normally no PvP special event): Old Alterac Valley Week 3: Warsong Scramble Week 4 (off-week, normally no PvP special event): Classic Ashran
What this means is that there will be two weeks each month where players can play in old Alterac Valley or in Classic Ashran, rather than them being in the standard brawl rotation and taking upwards of 3 months for them to show up again.
I’ve found them really fun (even as Alliance) and have been queuing for old AV even though there are no rewards tied to it.
Them being more readily available fills a gap for longer PvP activity inside the game and opens up the opportunity to add in cool things like achievements or battle quests to entice the every day Joe into them to introduce them to these types of modes.
It wasn’t blacklisted because players didn’t like it. It was blacklisted because players didn’t like losing it 80% of the time or to reduce queue times.
The endless battlegrounds provide a different experience and content expectation than regular brawls. If you don’t want to see it, you don’t have to play it. Currently that slot has nothing in it, so it being there isn’t taking anything away from you.
I actually love the winter AB, am I weird? I dunno, there’s just something about it that I found kinda… cool!
Anyway, I’d say KR isn’t terribly motivating to play, but I’m not super motivated to PvP this expansion. I’m not sure why… It’s not a gear/rewards thing… I’ve never been one to PvP for that reason, I’m just not into it in BfA.
Either way, I think the core of this idea is a good one. I think they should extend this to the regular BGs as well and have some kind of weekly rotation so the map pool is smaller.
In a perfect/ideal world, we would have 24/7 access to Southshore vs Tarren Mill as well.
It’s obvious that Korrak’s Revenge is an OVERWHELMING success, wouldn’t surprise me at all if they added it to the rotation just based off of it’s sheer popularity with casuals.
The original battlegrounds are more popular than you think. People stay for long duration play and I see this consistently with people stacking up hundreds, and even thousands, of HKs. That means they play for hours upon hours so they’re not doing quests, and in the case of Korrak’s Revenge, don’t need to be there for so long just to get a mount. You don’t do 132-Million damage because you’re being forced into a terrible zone where you suffer towards getting a few Conquest Points towards your weekly cap.
I have seen many premades, and I have been in many premades, in those battlegrounds and people in those premades were there for fun. One person I ran into had been in there for 12-hours. Maybe not you, but some people enjoy the longer 24/7 PVP play that they can just roll out of bed and fight in.
Thanks for sharing. What are your thoughts on the brawl?
AV is one of the most popular battlegrounds, up there with Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin. To claim otherwise is ignorant; official polls have shown this.
It was highly blacklisted, yes, but that is for a number of reasons which is why blacklisting as a feature fundamentally did not work. Horde blacklisted AV because “we lose all the time” or “THE MAP FAVOURS ALLIANCE”, not because they disliked it. I - someone who has a Twitter account dedicated to AV -blacklisted it because it meant I had shorter queue times.
Forsh, thanks for such a great post. This is exactly the point I am trying to make. Sometimes people just want to engage in a PvP activity that lasts longer than 10-40 minutes. Old AV has been refreshing because it’s in an environment I enjoy that has many routes to victory. Strategy, divide and conquer. It’s better now there are less farmers in there too.
This is the closest thing we have to an official ‘best battleground’ poll. AV is third, after the other two classic battlegrounds. If you read the comments you will also see that people didn’t vote for AV because at the time it was very much a “ZERG FEST” and people say if it were original AV, they’d have voted for it.
You can’t say AV isn’t popular because it was highly blacklisted and then not accept proof that it actually was by deflecting and saying “THAT ISN’T PROOF THAT CLASSIC AV IS POPULAR” when blacklisting doesn’t exist in a time where classic AV does.
In my many years playing this game, the only consistent thing across all those years is “BRING BACK OLD AV”. There is a market for longer, large-scale PvP and if you don’t want to play it you don’t have to queue for it.
