Elunes lore , thank you

This is the best thing I’ve read all day. Thank you.

I do not see why this is true. Elune’s actions and activities still to this day cross cosmological lines in ways we have not seen with any other cosmic level ruler-entity. She seems to be the unique link between Life and Death with the Winter Queen, and then between Life and Order with Eonar which she has some obvious and strong ties to.

She is also the only cosmic entity that seems to be actually acting in the Mortal Plane in a legit beneficial manner, freely offering her power across the cosmos without any fine strings to those who uphold her tenants of balance.

This is stupid considering nearly a good chunk of everyone’s belief system is wrong. Apparently the light isnt the perfect source of happiness/goodness in the world thus making the human/draenei belief have very questionable undertones.

That is just a cop out and you know it. If finally learning what the whole “mysterious plan/origin” of your fantasy God was never interesting in and of itself, then it was probably not interesting at all. You can only every tease people with an interesting backstory for so long before people realize you are just bluffing.

With every mystery explained the world gets a little bit duller.

Did we need to know the origin of Han Solo’s last name?

Did we need to know the origin of Xenomorphs?

Did we need to know Spock’s backstory in STD?

Some things are best left untold, just take a look at Sargeras as an example.
Elune will be ruined. All you have to do, is wait.

I mean… it is with some mighty fine print, wherein you never question its will and just do as you are told.

Now that is a bold statement to make.

Especially given the original intent to keep Elune just as a mystery.

sure, some will be happy with how it turn out. Some are happy with and consider BfA to be a good story. Not saying those are equal statements, but that it’s hard to predict what story could resonate with people.

I mean, depends on the execution. For some the current story does not make much sense, and is going in a direction to ret-con city. Which is, as a tool, neither bad nor good, but too much or too crude use of such tool, can cause irreversible damage.

Yes, and that is why re-contextualization of her story would require rethinking and outlining a different interpretation for all of those lore elements, for all creatures affected by Elune, to all the stories ivolving the Well of Eternity and the region.

How likely is it that such job is done and ready to be presented alongside new Elune reveals?

Pick one thing. Either you like ret-con style pulling of Elune to the story, or you want “to not ruin the character”.

So far we clearly see how successful blizzard with establishing new entities in the lore (like the Jailer). Or continuing the legacy of old (like Sylvanas).

So the winter queen we wanted something that stood above the night fae and felt somewhat different than they were. And of course, she’s similar to other creatures like her that we’ve had in the past. You know, she’s not a Titan, but she’s something kind of right below that. She’s an ultra-powerful creature here and part of this pantheon in a similar way that the Titan Watchers and Keepers we’ve seen in the past were part of the pantheon of law and order. These are the pantheon of death.

I think they retcon’d this in-universe pre-launch tbh, like we know they pivoted during development (Ardenweald was separated from Bastion), and we suspect other pivots (the leaked Jailer art looks like Primus + Zovaal fused together).

Well, given the “twists” with night warrior all over the place, and necessity of Bastion actions and hints at history related to forsworn [and Elune being able to make sure a soul goes directly to Ardenweald], all in the span of a single patch, I would not be surprised.

Not to mention the Bastion sigil is a tear, like the Tear of Elune, when there are zero teardrop relevancy in the zone (there’s not even rain).

Honestly suspect Winter Queen + Archon were going to be one being, giant winged woodland queen fairy angel, like Maleficent’s race in the live-action remakes with Angelina Jolie.

Like Primus + Zovaal were supposed to be one being, Archon + Winter Queen were supposed to be one being, Denathrius stands alone still, so we’re probably missing one Eternal One they cut out (Ancestor Land, probably)

Well, there is a visual effect of “wisp wall” in Bastion (Kalliope’s Rest). And… that’s it. Shadowlands has a few sun-related references, but not much about moons.

(in before a dreaded reveal on Zovaal being An’she or something as silly).

To be honest, if there would be 1 less zone, but more depth (who am I kidding, there would be no more depth, just maybe extra poop quests), that might’ve been not a bad trade-off.

It’s been shown that Elune’s power can override or work with the other cosmic forces.

She cleansed her tear of the Emerald Nightmare (Void), the tear is a Pillar of Creation (Arcane) and it unlocked Xe’ra core when Velen said only a naaru descended from Xe’ra could do it (Light).

Well… We do not know exactly what the Tears of Elune can do. It seems that Eonar was granted one at some point and she used it as her Pillar of Creation. As Elune represents nature and has a very long history of being able to purify it makes good sense that she could remove nightmare corruption.

The Tear’s ability to boot up Xe’ra is a bit more mysterious. It likely hints they thought of making Elune of the Light pantheon at one point but wisely changed gears to Life. I am sure they will cook up some reason, though.

I’d pictured Elune as a First One, that she can interact with all of the cosmic forces. I think that was the direction Blizz originally intended for Elune, but they might be changing it given what we see in Ardenweald.

I thought Elune to be more on the level of the other Pantheons. Almost to the point where I think people are reading too much into the Power of Elune, or Aman’Thul (all Pantheon of Order) had been unjustly “weaken” by Blizzard.

  • By this I mean, Aman’Thul was equal to power as Sargeras, as Elune, as Zovaal, but something happened to remove that power.

Blizzard, not being 100% sure of where they were going with the story, had lead to the Pantheons all feeling as if they were of different power scales. (maybe they are)

I believed Elune to be on the same level as the other pantheon, she was just the “leader” of the cosmic force of Life. All viewing each other as “siblings.”

1.) First Ones created 6 cosmic forces; (Or maybe 3 that “spawned” the other 3)

  • Life → Death
  • Light → Shadow
  • Order → Disorder

2.) From those cosmic forces, “Pantheon” either arose, or were put in place.

Cosmic Forces of Life:

  • Pantheons
    • Elune, (plus whoever else)

Cosmic Force of Light:

  • Pantheons
    • The Keepers (Names Unknown)

Cosmic Force of Disorder:

  • Pantheons
    • Argus, Sargeras, (plus whoever else)

Cosmic Force of Death:

  • Pantheons
    • Zovaal, Archon, Primus, Winter Queen, Denathrius, (plus whoever else)

Cosmic Force of Shadow:

  • Pantheons
    • The Void Lords (Names Unknown)

Cosmic Force of Order:

  • Pantheons
    • Aman’Thul, Eonar, Norgannon, Golganneth, Khaz’goroth, Aggramar

3.) From this, the Pantheon of Order took it upon themselves to “govern” (read: help) another cosmic force, as they believed it was their responsibility. Keep them “in-line” and ensure that balance throughout the Cosmos was kept.

  • Aman’Thul was set to “govern” Order (Rest of the Pantheon)
  • Eonar was set to “govern” Life - (Her ties to Elune)
  • Sargeras (Aggramar later) was set to “govern” Disorder (Ties to the Fel/Void Lords)
  • Norgannon was set to “govern” Light
  • Golganneth was set to “govern” Shadow
  • Kha’goroth was set to “govern” Death

4.) The fall of Sargeras lead to the Burning Crusade, which ultimately lead to disorder overcoming the cosmos.

  • Most of life had been killed off by the Legion, which would have ultimately empowered Zovaal.

  • Zovaal, being the “Leader of the Pantheon of Death” began to grow in power to the point it concerned Elune, the Pantheon of Life.

  • Elune, with her connection to Eonar and the Winter Queen, joined the Pantheon of Order, Death and maybe(?) Life to imprison Zovaal. Constructing the Arbiter to take his place.

  • Now, Zovaal, Denathius, using the Dreadlords, Legion, etc along with the Pantheon of Disorder, sent a “Trojan Horse” Argus world soul to disable the Arbiter and ultimately lead to the “freeing” or restored power of Zovaal.

  • Once Zovaal has his power back, being the “Leader of Death” will probably seek the Sepulcher as that is the place World Souls(Pantheon) go after they die. With those world souls(Pantheon), he’d be able to make his own new Death Pantheon to fight the Pantheon of Order, Elune, etc…

Wow’s problem rn is that nothing at all feels mysterious or like Azeroth is a living breathing world. It just feels like a soulless theme park.

I think the major problem with WoW was that Argus was classified as a “world soul/pantheon/titan.”

Titans, such as Sargeras, Zovaal, Aman’thul, Elune, etc should have stayed planet sized colossus beings that the “champions of Azeroth” had no possibility of defeating.

WoW was a much better game when the big bad felt more realistic and empowered by a titan than a titan itself.

Legion should have been:

  • 7.0 - The Legion Returns - Guldan
  • 7.1 - Return to Karazhan - Archimonde
  • 7.2 - Tomb of Sargeras - Kil’jaden
  • 7.3 - Shadows of Argus - Avatar of Sargeras

Battle for Azeroth should have been:

  • 8.0 - Battle of Lordaeron - Warchief Sylvanas
  • 8.1 - Dazar’alor - Wrath of Jania
  • 8.2 - Uldir - G’huun
  • 8.3 - The Eternal Palace - Queen Azshara

** Insert Old God Expansion here **

  • 9.0 - Ny’alotha Rises - New Zones
  • 9.1 - Xal’atath Reborn (Sword of Sargeras/Silithus)
  • 9.2 - Madness of Magni - Yogg the God of Death (Ulduar revamp)
  • 9.3 - Visions of a Corrupted Titan - Old God N’zoth

Shadowlands

  • 10.0 - Veil of the Shadowlands - Castle Nathria - Mal’ganis
  • 10.1- Secrets of the Sepulcher - Mueh’zala
  • 10.2 - Chains of Domination - Ner’zhul
  • 10.3 - Cycle of Hatred - Slyvanas

This falls heavily into the “what if” category, but what if Elune was killing off other Pantheons to gain or grow in power herself.

(Maybe without control due to her “rage” in a Jekyll and Hyde situation)

And Zovaal, being the first Arbiter, saw these Pantheons being killed. Before he could do anything about it, Elune convinced the other Eternal Ones and the Pantheon of Order to imprison him in the Maw.

This could lead into an interesting storyline with the Sepulcher and “where do Titans go when they die.” Elune would be very concerned with Zovaal “resurrecting” the titans she had killed off…

That ambiguity doesn’t exist in settings where gods actively participate in events.

Considering the Winter Queen’s Rage towards her sister and how the 9.1 PTR shows Tyrande unleashing Ardenweald Anima instead of that Maw-style Soul Anima…

Are we so certain the Night Warrior is Elune’s Wrath and not the Winter Queen’s Wrath?

Rage is 100% a too strong word. Contempt, perhaps Frustration lol

Yes we are, because of quest text lol
