That’s exactly were I fall. That’s why I’m not saying it’s incorrect, but that it’s just not right lol.
The weird thing is that questing seems harder than the dungeons. Questing fits my memory but dungeons don’t. Odd.
I guess we’ll see. Scholo/Strath got castrated as it was early on. But talk about a buzz kill.
Yeah well im more than willing to believe something is possible when i can confirm it with my own eye’s. But i sure seen my fair share of crazy people that made what people think impossible happen.
So yeah, i don’t know what to believe at times lol. Don’t feel too bad about it, it’s just feel wrong to just accept it without thinking it may be wrong.
why do you say that? What’s the reason?
Classicdb is the old vanillagaming database - a first generation private server now dead for many years. Classicdb bought their database. None of the information has been updated since. It is fast and easy to use though, so it gets used.
But it is inaccurate. Look at where crusader drops: https://classicdb.ch/?item=16252
. On classicdb it lists Scarlet Archmage as a source but this is false: https://web.archive.org/web/20060616115746/http://thottbot.com:80/?i=18339
. Spellbinders are the ONLY source for enchant weapon crusader in vanilla.
Or look at experience rewards listed for virtually any quest- it is hard to find one that is correct.
I mean, from what I recall, I was able to solo Wailing Caverns up to Lord Serpentis as a level 20 Warlock. I did it for the Serpent Gloves. Let’s see, that would’ve been around the time Dire Maul was released, so 1.3, maybe 1.4, I guess.
Couldn’t solo Verdan the Everliving, though. Hit way too hard to do without a real healer.
We have level 30s soloing the Vicious Fallout in Gnomer, people doing RFK without healers and with 4 people. I think there was some mention of a level 38 elite not being able to kill a level 10 player as they were running through badlands and aggroed it.
It’s not about what is correct. But what is right. What is authentic. And it’s not.
Uh, a few guildies and I did Maraudon back in vanilla with a prot paladin tanking, no healer. 4 of us. Below level.
Edit: It might’ve been three of us; mage mage paladin.
So glad the devs are active. Make me so happy!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about them. They’re apparently a really passionate bunch that are really dedicated to creating an authentic experience.
It’s got me really hyped for release, I’ve got a lot of confidence they will do a great job.
Can’t really use private servers as reference to real numbers since many have just increased damage to feign harder difficulty.
What we are seeing is just the benefit of people being better gamers in general. The reason dungeons used to be so hard back then was literally 60-70% of people were key board turning spell clickers who rocked up to a dungeon underleveled and undergeared. Not to mention many people were playing on shaky internet speeds (as an OCE player i know A LOT of people who started out on 500-700ms).
So of course things are going to be easier. People know how important things like sunder armor are for threat, and to actually be in defensive stance… after you add up all the technical improvements (e.g. ping) and average player skill, its not a case of the mobs were hitting so much harder back then, but rather the average player was downright terrible back in 2004-2005.
Also soloing elites was very possible for a multitude of classes. It wasn’t until around the 40s/50s that bosses started having a bit too much armour/hp/damage, but even then with decent gear many wear soloable (particularly with pet or healing classes)
Psssh. I solo farmed the spider in LBRS multiple times. If you’re not half-sped, you can do these things but it takes a lot of time.
I distinctly remember soloing the early dungeons on my warrior in vanilla because i dual boxed myself all the time, and ran friends through dungeons for specific gear ( defias/druid sets). i also remember soloing parts of SM for leveling but that might have been a later expansion ( i remember being 60 at the time but i don’t remember when it was)
Solo farming SM Cathedral for Silk/Mageweave was definitely a thing in Vanilla.

I saw a video from Jesse Cox about him playing at a pre-beta event. He was playing a “Resto” Shaman doing RFD and he was clicking EVERYTHING it was so painful to watch.
Moves mouse to upper left of screen, clicks portrait. Moves mouse to action bar, clicks spell. Moves mouse back to upper left of screen, clicks new portrait. Moves mouse back down to action bar, clicks another spell.
ARGHAHGAHHHHH
What’s really painful is his refusal to use keybindings.
Thank you guys for taking these things so seriously and doing the testing. You are truly going to make Classic great!
Apparently he still plays live and has been continuously playing since Classic with only ~1 year off in between.
Please tell me he doesn’t refuse to use keybinds in live…This was the first video of his I’ve seen for WoW so I haven’t seen his live footage (if any) but please tell me this isn’t so…
Ikr? This is what betas are for. It’s a good thing players are questioning things and Blizzard can look into it, if everything is working as intended then great!
A player soloing a boss at level in a dungeon would have been almost impossible in Vanilla.
Original is from 2006 on Machinima which no longer exists, so this is the re-upload.
You know what, next time he does a stream leveling his new turtle druid i’m going to check lol
