Eitrigg is part of the Sons of Lothar now

At this point nothing matter. Factions are irrelevant. If a Thalassian wants to rep for the Alliance he simply declares himself as a Void Elf want to go home? Say at the gate, “Actually a Blood elf. Same with Pandaren, wear a blue shirt in Stormwind and a red one in Ogrimmar. Let everyone be anything, and yeah… :dracthyr_shrug:

I mean it’s a classic maneuver. Why build up the Founders of Durotar or the Garad’kra to play against the Sons of Lothar when we can just jam a Horde character in there and hope that makes the group palatable neutral quest givers?

Mhm. In a world without factions, the Alliance will simply dominate the story regardless. What Founders of Durotar? What Garad’kra?

In BFA, the Horde does recruit a group of Kul Tiran pirates for that purpose. Nothing is done with it though.

Eitrigg working with the Sons of Lothar is one thing, but actually joining them feels really weird.

Why not just have Eitrigg and his loyal Blackrock mirror the Sons of Lothar as they deal with the Dark Horde?

If they are going for a Second War Veteran thing, why not have Eitrigg buddy up with Elder Torntusk, one of the co-leaders of the Horde Revantusk Forest Troll tribe, over just having him work with the Sons of Lothar?

Because that would imply the creation of a new Horde-centric organization and I think it’s fair to say at this point that Blizzard is not particularly interested in doing that LMAO

This fan fiction writing is getting out of hand.

Etrigg betrays the Horde? lol

Nope, because Eitrigg says of those same Blackrock orcs “there is no hope but death.” This is just another exhibit in the gallery of All the Horde Fans Have Left the Building.

Ha! Fair. I could have made a better argument lol. When Cata came out the Alliance aided the Grimtotem and everything in Stonetalon, if I remember correctly. I remember thinking that was the coolest thing and loving the idea of Alliance Tauren and cross faction races more generally.

Oh you can keep him if you want.

Totally! That’s what conversations are at the end of the day - a chance to bond with other people, learn from their arguments and hopefully if possible grow and become wiser from them. And likewise I appreciate your compliment and your and Kohnila’s responses!

Etrigg, Son of Lothar.

In other news, Shabbos Wolowitz, Officer of the SS.

Even with Baine they had enough of a sliver of self awareness to not outright have him join the Alliance. Orcs are cooked man. They led with a lot of strong content in ZA and Eversong, but now the hits just keep on coming.

I think Blizzard is trying to make the Sons of Lothar a neutral organization and having Eitrigg, who worked with them, officially join is that big step.

Why don’t just have the Argent Crusade full any kind of role a Neutral Sons of Lothar would do is beyond me.

adjusts tie, leaps out window

Let’s make all the Alliance heroes with statues in Stormwind the new “Neutral organization.” Horde players will love it!

I will never be convinced there is a single writer that either plays or likes the Horde.

None of you can change my mind.

Modern WoW really feels like fan fiction.

Who wanted this? Who is this for?

Oh, that’s easy. Unfortunately, it’s political. They take a setting that is defined by ethno-wars and they are going to turn it into some pro-diversity allegory. We all know that is what it is.

Take something like the Sons of Lothar, a legend and organization that would be a source of, not only faction pride, Not only National pride or Pride in the Kingdom, but racial pride as well. And transform it into progressivist slop. It doesn’t just transform it, but it replaces what it was before.

And I am not naive enough to believe that this isn’t a soft grooming for a more Earth-bound example. Especially in the wake of Danath’s weird “Arathi Pride bad” speech earlier this year.

It is a very clear message from the writing team “Screw your traditions. Screw your history. Screw your heritage. It will all be replaced.”

It is far worse than that. It is nominally progressive writers accidentally/ unintentionally telling a story about how all the ethnic coded cultures need the civilized, blonde good guy cultures to overcome their nature. Just like abuse survivor allegory Sylvanas was accidentally fumbled into being a victim (again) and abuser.

Like, even if you frame this as smuggling in progressive propaganda, they can’t even do that lol.

Culturally, the Tauren have always been a better fit for the Alliance. Made zero sense for nature-loving Tauren to turn against their Night Elf druid mentors.

Good the more we move away from the dumb faction war the better this game will be

Nah. Peaceful door mat druids is a parallel to the dumbing down and fumbling of Night Elves. Tauren were a deeply shamanistic warrior culture once upon a time, before they became pigeon holed into “one of the good ones” for an Alliance perspective.

Yeah if any of that must be analyzed through a political lens then I think this is closer to what is at stakes here. Never forget that in many regards the Horde vs Alliance opposition largely mirrors the Global South vs Western world dynamics. It’s hard not to see colonial gaze here and there in the way Horde races are historically handled narratively.

What we got here is less evidence of a “woke agenda” than evidence of an openly centrist and neoliberal writing direction.
