There is one interesting exception, which is where the healer’s skill allows other players to deliberately trade off incoming damage for outgoing damage.
As a concrete example, take the orbs on the second boss of Tazavesh. Normally DPS want to avoid them, but if your healer is strong enough, it’s actually beneficial to the group to just soak them, get healed, and continue DPSing. It’s very counterintuitive actually doing it for me (don’t do mechanics?!) but it does work, and you shave seconds off your overall time. If my usual group was pushing really high keys we’d definitely rely on it.
But that’s not something that can really be managed or explained at the small-key-pug level, so I’m not surprised that it’s not a bigger part of their balance toolkit.
As we saw previously, that led to people suggesting to pug healers that they should dps a little more, and those pug healers throwing the mother of all hissyfits and screaming on the forums for months about “I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO DPS”.
The real solution to so many problems is to take away the gear rewards from M+, or restrict their use just to M+ (like how PvP does it). Get the people out of M+ who don’t actually want to be there, and leave it for the people who actually enjoy it, without having the andys pissing in their oatmeal every season.
Healers should do more damage, but they should have a more indepth DPS “rotation” to get that damage. If you’re just spamming Smite/Mind Blast/SWP, yeah DPS should be dookie.
I mean TBF Healer DPS obviously isn’t a big deal in LFR or Normal dungeons.
We didn’t see that in game, we saw some lunatics making that up on the forum.
Nobody complained if Johnny Awesome didn’t use his dps buttons as a healer in his weekly vault key.
If anyone complained, it’d be when Johnny Awesome didn’t do any damage as a healer in his push keys, the ones that are solely meant to challenge you and have you advance to a higher level. If Johnny is only healing there then he’s doing something wrong and should get to hear it. If Johnny wants push keys to consist solely of healing then he should be in favor of making m+ harder.
Sounds good in theory but character development is too important in rpgs to ignore. That’s why you have keys that reward gear that you can do with 3 players (0-10) and keys that are meant to challenge you.
The problem is (and always will be) is that “keeping everyone alive” is the floor of M+ healing and you make that challenging for an experience healer playing with experienced DPS, you’ve essentially locked M+ out for healers who aren’t as good and more runs get bricked when Healers and/or DPS are bad at keeping themselves alive.
That was more a joke aimed at the quality of “healers” complaining about having to DPS. It’s not a complaint any actual person worth taking seriously has.
We need more abilities that would be considered part of a Support kit, like Aug.

…we need bards. What made the Bard spec in Rift so fun to me was that I could both heal and buff my party, depending on the situation.
If low damage is being dealt, I can increase that at the cost of my heals, and that would be a part of being a good healer: knowing when to buff vs heal.
Well, yes. Been saying for years that M+ is only “popular” because of the welfare gear, and that giving out Myth-track gear for playing WoW’s equivalent of Candyland is horrible game design that would ultimately bite Blizzard in their rear. (Which it has.)
I miss old healing. Managing mana and big spells, being able to take a breath and relax during damage downtimes. Instead I have to be a dps with a few heal spells and mash my buttons like I’m playing some cheap console game.
I aggre that they just should buff the damage. Every other change will bring problems and bigger damage will only affect the lazy fragile ego snowflakes that don’t spend their downtime doing something useful.
If bliz adds constant small aoe to every pull. Things wouldn’t change much, just less overheal in the end.
If it does unavoidable and unpredictable spot damage. It will certainly be frustrating when it happens with everything else. Even if is predictable, most healers can’t shield or toss some pain suppression to solve such situations.
If people cannot survive for at least some time without a healer. Every healer death is an instant wipe, which isn’t a good design imo.
Also, the profile of incoming damage works quite different, and so does healing. So how in the hell you would balance such a thing to start with?
Healing is fine… But the damage numbers for then seems all over the place between different classes and specs, and the amount of cc and utility also varies wildly. Which makes the “meta” a thing for every season.
But overall… Game is fairly balanced and we have enough data to know this, things like warcraft logs and so. I would just like that blizz fine tune things more frequently.
It could be better. I still don’t get why they nerfed the damage of mist weaver so hard. Meanwhile, shamans have bl, an unique buff that’s much more versatile for different comps, tons of utility, tons of strong cds, the best interrupt of the game and on top of that, stupid high damage.
why are yall so obessed with the only way to make healers more engaging being via dps? Are yall genuinely so unimaginative that youre only recourse is to do dps instead of healing? Like, why is that always the alternative with you guys…make healing harder or make healers do more dps?

I’m not a huge fan of dpsing as a healer, but that is why I stick to raiding and skip m+. In m+, there are only 4 people besides yourself to heal, meaning to keep a healer busy just healing is awkward without them dpsing to fill in gcds. Blizzard tried the support thing and it didn’t work out, so I don’t see healers + utility being a thing as buffing other players is either overpowered or underpowered. At this point, just give us some damage back for dungeons.
Come on now, you forgot that if it’s an AOE situation that it turns into chastise, hfx2 and holy nova until chastise or holy fire comes off of CD. Lol
