Season 2 MMR Issues

We’ve seen a lot of discussion around ratings in Dragonflight Season 2 the past couple of weeks and we’ve reviewed and discussed the current state of ratings and matchmaking. In an expansion that has had great communication so far, it seems weird we have not heard anything about season 2 MMR and inflation yet. In the past 2-3 weeks, every time I’ve opened Twitter or went to the arena forums there’s been posts asking what is going on. Even AWC chats were filled with questions about it.

At the creation of this post, Rank 1 is currently still lower than Gladiator (2369) and there’s only 37 people in NA above 2400. You guys said you would keep an eye on inflation this season, but the only thing you’ve kept an eye on was Solo Shuffle getting super inflated ratings, and ignored rated 2s and 3s that’s floundering.

I think people would appreciate an acknowledgment and that something is being done. Everyone that PvPs just feels ignored right now.

On the topic of Inflation - As noted in the above post, we did start inflation earlier this season, having started this past week (Week 5). We have noticed that a smaller amount of players are hitting the higher end of ratings compared to the same time as Season 1, which also has trickle effects on the rest of the ladder. To help improve this situation, we are taking the following steps:

• With next week’s reset, the inflation rate will be substantially increased for next week
  • This increase will be gradual throughout the course of the week
• The steadier inflation rate will continue for the remainder of the season

I tell efx to do his job and make an updated deflation post and pvp gets saved instantly

Tbh I think the however many hours of solid stream spam was a bit of an eye opener for Blizzard. lol That looked REALLY bad for them.

I felt my post about solo shuffle was looked at just about shuffle when the main point was about mmr and how they’ve only looked at shuffle and ignored 2s and 3s. Missed the mark with my first attempt, just don’t want to spam the section is all.

How does inflation work?

It’s…basically them gradually increasing the average rating, which pushes everybody up. If you’re winning roughly half of your games at 1700 during week 4 of the season you might be (balance aside) winning roughly half at 1900-2200 mid-late or late season depending on numbers.

I’d say you’re right. However, what happened live on their stream today (and it was beautiful) is massively embarrassing for a company, like pathetically embarrassing. lol It was their own fault IMO, but someone with some authority definitely told someone to get on the forums ASAP and address this before it gets worse. They do not want their entire tournament basically turned into a demonstration.

The sad part is they could have made this post a couple weeks ago and people would be praising them instead of laughing at them.

Yeah, I feel like it’s just one of those funny timing things because I imagine they realized that the ladder was moving up a little too slowly for everybody. Anyways, good news.

Can Efx post about healer incentives in RSS? (Maybe point out it’s harder to climb the ladder as a healer. That’s not good if we want more healers in RSS.)
