It’s a pretty meh weapon, even for combat (or that’s what I thought at the time) as it’s too slow for OH use and too fast for MH use.
Which is why I will be trying to be smart about where I quest and how I get to places. You’re right, sometimes it’s less than ideal but for a dungeon such as ZF theres 2(?) quests that arn’t in tanaris + the mallet in hinterlands.
I keep forgetting it’s one of the heirlooms, anyway
Unless you are a pro min/max type, your enjoyment of the game will be a much be a much more efficient levelling metric to focus on than xp/hour because you will play longer/tend to do more stuff without just AFKing in cities.
For example it is usually less efficient to do dungeons but might be more fun than grinding out mobs for a couple of levels because you have run out of interesting quests.
Tip #2: leveling time is a combination of three things: travel time, kill time and recovery time. Most people focus on trying to find ways to decrease kill time when far more substantial gains can be made by reducing recovery time. Another thing to do is combine traveling and killing by kiting the mob you are killing in the same direction you are going.
Giving “Direct TV” a whole new meaning
Time spent getting dungeon quests from around the world, finding a group for said dungeon, then traveling to the dungeon from Capitol City, then clearing said dungeon, then dispersing back out to someplace useful…
1hour getting the quests, since blizz likes putting them on opposite ends of the solar system…
1 hour turning all the quests in, backtracking across the world again
1 hour combined: traveling to the capitol to find a group (I’m actually counting this as a hearth), traveling from the capitol with said group to the dungeon, and then traveling to where ever in the world your quests actually are after finishing turn ins
1hour to clear the dungeon (triple this for Mara for Thrash blade since you need purple and orange and princess… Uldaman, Sunken Temple, also longer… and BRD unless very objective oriented is massively longer)…
So you’ve wasted at least 4 hours to upgrade your weapon… during that time you could have just gained an actual 1-3 levels by leveling, depending on your leveling bracket.
If you’re taking ~6 days /played to level cap (which is more than reasonable for someone making an effort to level “fast” but not being nearly as adapt as Joanna at it or on a less efficient class than hunter/warlock)… lvl 45 is the roughly halfway marker, and will take you 72 hours… That comes out to ~4.8 hours per level to cap (which is also a bit backloaded), and most of the time those weapons don’t last you more than a handful of levels to begin with…
I’m quite serious, you really just waste time overall chasing dungeon gear, if your goal is speed leveling. You just won’t make up 1-3 levels of difference, particularly in the lower leveling brackets where those few levels might have been all the weapon was good for to begin with. Remember, a ton of your power, even on classes like warrior and rogue, also comes just from abilities and skill upgrades that you earn as you level.
This advice can sometimes be turned around though; thinking of the speed at which you rip thru mobs and how often you need to stop and eat, etc. Sometimes the difference between mobs of equal level and those a couple lower can be huge in terms of how fast you can move thru them.
Its that XP/hour that counts; find your groove.
For me, I love grinding versus questing sometimes. One of my favorite personal achievements during Cataclysm was reaching level cap with zero quests completed. Hey, there wasn’t much content. I had fun.
Most of my efficient leveling occurred on alts, based on what I’d learned so far on other characters. It was things like knowing quests that were best to pick up and do together, or knowing I’d need a copper tube or a silver bar and having it in my bags when I flew out from the city to quest that day.
Honestly, I hate trying for hyper-efficient leveling. I’ve played with friends who would math out exactly which mobs at what level to kill. That kills some of the immersion and fun for me. I’d rather just focus on making sure I have any reagents, any partially completed quest items, and that I have a general plan for sequence of quests and exploration and profession work so I’m always doing something.
Its not about efficiency for me. But I’ll generally identify where the relevant quests are in each zone and only move on when I’m satisfied that I have completed everything available in the general area. No strict plan or guide here - I don’t strive to be a robot.
The only efficiency to my leveling will be the efficiency that I am slaying Alliance dogs.
Most definitely. Get that axe skill topped off, switch to the mace, top that off, back to the axe (or other weapon), rinse/repeat. That’s a good way to do wep skill.
Hold onto your early weapons for skill training. If you get to level level 60 by using 2H swords then get The Nicker, you’re going to feel really silly training with 4.0 swing speed.
That’s my man!
I imagine it depends a lot on the class. Hunters and warlocks can send their pets to start a fight while you’re looting previous mobs, picking herbs mining or skinning. That makes it a lot more efficient.
I am taking my time and enjoying the journey this time around.
Ha, who am I kidding. Leveling sucks because I’ve done it too many times. I already know the speed routes and will be doing that.
Did you try closing memory.exe and disabling the service?
Age and hard drinking are clearing out my brain cache without me having to do anything.
OR delete the WTF file
Not necessary. Find a good weapon with low skill? Start hitting stuff and catch up in a few minutes.
Anyway, for the post, my advice is to take it easy leveling. Constantly grinding for levels for hours can actually work against you due to rest xp bonus available for those that do take breaks, and burnout from frustration for those that don’t.
