Edit mode ok. why blow up decades old UI?

Im not asking for the old UI… .IM talking about matching the layout and allowing us to use that as a base starting point. or having a way to copy what we had where we had it… so it was a bit more seamless. I’m not against change… i dont like that they layed it out like its on a cellphone.

Like I said above, and in the OP. I don’t mind the change. But this UI isn’t just faster and sleeker, its not what I handed them last week.
Its like I took my car to the mechanic, and thy gave me a new great engine and then they removed the steering wheel on the car, replaced it with a unistick, and and I now drive from the other side. Sure I have the ability to switch everything around myself, and I like I have that ability, but why am I starting from scratch?

Unless I’m blind, and I very well can be, I don’t see a way to move the bag bar. That’s my only real gripe about the new system.

WoW players often lack awareness and can’t handle any sort of change to the way they play. This is the same game where jumping over a short gap was a legitimate challenge to some people, and Oculus was too hard because you have to spend time in a 3-button vehicle. I did Oculus recently on WotLK classic and the tank genuinely couldn’t figure out how to keep Martyr up (a 10 sec duration 10 sec CD, one of 3 abilities he had) and of course blamed the instance design. This is the type of person who’s on the forums complaining about the new UI which is a lateral improvement over the old UI.

It’s pretty unreal that you took the time to complain here about the small zone map without checking if you could move it. Which you can and have been able to for many expansions now.

Most of your complaints in fact seem to arise from you making no attempt to customise anything to address your problems with the UI.

“Muscle memory” doesn’t really work as an argument; not just because you can move the action bars to where you’re used to but because the UI we had in BFA and Shadowlands itself wasn’t the original UI we had from 2004. The primary action bar was more to the left and it had the game menu next to it. So really it’s only a couple expansions of muscle memory; before which the action bar was centred like it is in the new UI by default.

And no, it does NOT take hours to figure out how to configure the new UI. The edit menu is very intuitive. In fact I’d argue the new UI has the most intuitive setup and customisation it’s ever had.

The REAL issues with the UI are it lacks some important UI features addons offer; such as anchoring the tooltip to the mouse instead of the bottom right of the screen. The old UI had this problem too but I don’t see why they didn’t take the time to add that to the new UI. Otherwise I’m confident in saying there is NOTHING that was better about the old UI.

Do I have to spend more then 5 minutes getting set up so I can play the game the way I did last week? No… that’s the problem. I now have to dedicate a decent amount of time per character resetting the the bars, the actions, the spells, to something that is similar but not the same as to what worked for years as of last week… I then play the game and notice little goofy things I now need to fix. so I stop playing and make more edits, and move more things around. Thats poor design.

Its a complaint. sure, its a bit late for blizzard to fix it. But I cant understand why they didn’t take a snap shot of what we had, and then used that as the base to edit from.

Lol? 5 minutes is nothing, and you only have to do it once. You can re-use the profile on different characters.

Seeing things you need to update as you go is totally normal and fine when it comes to UI. This applies to ANY application, not just WoW and not even just games.

Plus you really don’t need to make many changes. The new UI is functionally very similar in the old UI. The main elements are in roughly the same places. The biggest difference is the primary action bar was centred whereas in the old UI it was offset to the left and the game menu bar was next to it which was a) a poor choice and b) not even the original UI but what we got in a later expansion (did we get as many boomers complaining when they made that change?).

They didn’t make a snapshot because there’s no need. The UI is just straight up better now.

I’m curious. I have the issue now that my npc dialogue boxes are locked behind my action bars at the base of the screen. Any idea how to change this as it does not highlight In edit mode like the other options

Read through this post and notice the different attitudes. Most of us who like the old ui just want the option to use it. Most of the others think that because they like the new ui or played with add-ons then we should just get used to change. All we want is the choice. Everyone else can use whatever they like.

Totally 100% opinion!

Nothing more!

Youll get used to it or find an addon that does the old UI for u.

not sure…but

esc > options > graphics > :heavy_check_mark:use UI scale > 64%
esc > edit mode > layout > classic (preset)

There’s a checkbox for the Talking Head Frame in the edit mode options. If it’s not moving or saving after enabling that, you might have an addon conflicting with it.

Oof, Dock several points for what i can only assume is them being a Terf and trying to throw it into this thread as if it was relevant at all.

As for the topic at hand, if i had to guess, they didn’t want to maintain the full fat functionality of the old ui under the hood and opted to completely replace it, hence why there’s no way to “Switch back” to the old skin, it also likely didn’t play nice with modularity.

i do hope they come up with more editable stuff, including font size, microbar colour/scale, and minimap scale, i know a few people who are struggling to read stuff with the new ui and didn’t have trouble with the old one, so there’s clearly some things that need changing.

Not technically feasible.

I don’t think it’s blown up, it was just replaced.

I was wondering if there was some tech reason not to offer the choice but I didn’t know enough about it to say for sure.

Basically like how other addons broke with 10.0, the old UI is in the same state. It would need a lot of fixes to even work in DF. Then you have the part where the old UI has no elements to interact with the new talents and profession systems. And if they decided to put in all the extra effort to make it all work, they would also have twice the work going forward to keep it all functioning. It’s possible, but it’s not a simple “toggle” like many people seem to imagine.

At 53, retired due to poor health and a couple of strokes, I found adapting easy. In fact, I was already prepared for it, also being a player of FFXIV. I love the new flexibility. Don’t lump all older players together. Liking something is individually subjective, regardless of age.
