[Duskfall Campaign] The Isle of Dorn: Dornogal

The creators of The Year of the Scourge and the Year 35/36 campaigns present…

- The Duskfall Campaign -

War has returned to Azeroth. After several years of peace and healing, the mighty Nerubians of Az-Kahet have emerged from their deep underground kingdom and have assaulted the inhabitants of the world, bolstered by their new alliance with the Harbinger Xal’atath.

Now, the heroes and defenders of Azeroth must put old rivalries behind them and band together once more to challenge the enemy and prevent an all out invasion of the world.

Who We Are

We are a community of role-players and guilds who have enjoyed working together on a collaborative and evolving story in the past and are thrilled at the chance to do so again. During the Shadowlands expansion, we came together and created a dynamic campaign to stop the Scourge and those who would wield it on Azeroth while other heroes had seemingly vanished off the face of the world.

Duskfall Operations

Each and every week, new objectives are posted on our Duskfall Discord server for all to see and discuss. These will include Missions and Campaign Events. Any missions or events posted are open to any member of the discord server.

Duskfall Missions

Missions occur on various nights depending on DM and member availability. They serve as important filler events where discoveries or developments can help characters empower themselves for their upcoming events.

Duskfall Campaign Events

Campaign Events are scheduled primarily on Saturday and Sunday nights and are lead by experienced DMs. They are used to significantly push the narrative forward with imporant developments through both wins and losses.

Primary Participating Guilds

Though Duskfall participants do not need to belong to any of these guilds in order to participate, the following is a list of the main guilds involved in this campaign:

The Argent Vanguard

Lead by Commander Vadinnar, the Argent Vanguard, an important unit of the Argent Crusade, born out of the ashes of the Fourth War, continue to serve as guardians of Lordaeron and of Azeroth against the plague of undeath or any other threats to the world. Their devotion to the Light has taken them to some of the darkest places of Azeroth and beyond.

The Duskwatch Saberguard

Following the orders of Patrol Captain Loviataar Al'Shaanth, the Duskwatch Saberguard have for centuries defended Suramar City and its borders. Following the bringing down of the magical barrier that seperated them from the rest of the world, the unit have come to understand that threats to their home can also exist abroad. Ever since, they have travelled to and discovered parts of Azeroth they had never heard of in their quest to secure peace for their homeland.

The Sunreavers

Under the command of Magister Axiann Sungazer, the Sunreavers are a faction of thalassian elves and followers of Archmage Aethas Sunreaver of Quel'thalas and of the Kirin Tor. Having experiences many important victories and unsettling setbacks throughout the years, they have worked tirelessly to reestablish their reputation as fiercly loyal defenders of Quel'thalas, Dalaran and Azeroth.

The Wolfmane Tribe

Under the leadership of Chieftain Huwah Wisehorn, the Wolfmane Tribe are a traditional, nomadic people who move with the seasons. The Wolfmane follow the traditions from the time before the orcs came to Kalimdor which they call ‘The Old Ways.’ A noble tribe, they share the wisdom of their elders and ancestors to those who would seek it through story and song.

Prologue: The Story so Far

Much has happened in Azeroth over the last few weeks…

Earthquakes, smaller at first, have been reported across many areas of Kalimdor and Pandaria, with the larger quakes felt across both regions simultaneously. Simultaenously, heavy storms, deemed by shamans to be unnatural, have been occurring throughout the South Seas.

Meanwhile, several areas have reported strange assaults comprising of visions or apparitions of enemies from Azeroths past. These “Radiant Echoes” as they are being called, are mostly being dealt with by local defenders and champions sent from Dalaran.

The Kirin Tor have taken a particular interest in these new occurrences and have set up an extensive portal network, sending champions to the areas affected to help quel any threats.

Their ruling Council of Six have also been hard at work on a plan shrouded in secrecy which has been drawing so much power the citizens of Dalaran have been experiences rolling “brown outs” of the ambient magical field throughout the city.

Now, a missive has been sent from the Duskwatch Saberguard to send reinforcements in response with an evolving situation in Suramar…

A missive, written on enchanted vellum is delivered by magic or raven to allies, leaders and Kirin Tor magi around the world:

Allies,

Our world seems to be under assault once again. The Kirin Tor and its allies are investigating and responding to these ‘Radiant Echos’ of the past occurring all over Azeroth. We strongly believe this to be part of a much more dire threat to our world.

We ask our allies and champions to come to Dalaran for an emergency Conclave. Kirin Tor magi in every major city and port have been tasked with opening portals to allow for faster travel.

The Conclave shall meet on Friday at the Violet Citadel. Sanctuary rules and code of conduct will be applied and enforced for this peaceful gathering.

Champions and allies have begun to arrive…

Earlier this week, the Kirin Tor sent an urgent missive to its allies around the world to gather in Dalaran to discuss recent ‘Radiant Echoes’ events happening around the world.

Friday, ahead of this emergency Conclave, many champions and allies had begun to arrive and gathered in the Legerdemain Lounge, where the Duskwatch Saberguard hosted an event to welcome the new arrivals.

The Conclave will begin today at 5 bells in the afternoon, hosted in several rooms throughout the Violet Citadel, including one meeting hosted by The Sunreavers in the Purple Parlor.

Prologue: Emergency Conclave

On Friday, the Kirin Tor hosted an emergency conclave of its magi and allies in the Violet Citadel. The objective was to collect as much information as possible on the ‘radiant echoes’ assaulting Azeroth as well as any other phenomena that might be related. Discussions were held in various chambers and halls within the Citadel.

In the Purple Parlor, the Sunreavers hosted a gathering consisting of representatives from the Wolfmane Tribe, the Duskwatch Saberguard, the Argent Vanguard and other allies and champions called to the cause.

Seismic activities and unnatural storms have been reported in and off the coasts of Kalimdor and Pandaria as well as in the Broken Isles. Radiant Echoes of past threats to Azeroth have also appeared in all of these locations, with a new threat possibly now threatening the Twilight Highlands.

In addition, more reports indicate individuals with no connection experiencing the so-called ‘Radiant Song’ visions. Chieftain Wisehorn of the Wolfmane was struck with one so powerful it caused him to lose consciousness for several moments. He described a nightmarish vision of falling into the earth and being pulled from that night by the radiant song.

The gathered coalition agreed to proceed immediately to the Twilight Highlands via portal and deal with any threats there, before returning to Dalaran to continue to work together on a strategic investigation and plan forward.

Chapter 1: Dalaran Has Fallen…
(Part 1)

Following weeks of combatting the unending, allies gathered in Antonidas Memorial Park to discuss alternative strategies. Their meeting, lead by Commander Vadinnar of the Argent Vanguard and Magister Axiann Sungazer of the Sunreavers, was cut short when a page delivered the Magister a letter: Speaker Magni Bronzebeard had awakened, and he had seen a vision of Khaz Algar and its people in dire need of aid. The Council of Six had discussed translocating Dalaran to this new land, and ordered the city prepared… quickly.

Orders came quickly: prepare the citizens of Dalaran, check the city’s defenses and wards, secure the Violet Hold and prepare for translocation. The allies spread out over the city to accomplish these tasks while amber and violet flares across the skies acted as a countdown to the grand event. The group gathered within the halls of the Violet Citadel and stood together as in the blink of an eye, an entire city was moved from one corner of the world to another.

The group emerged from the Citadel to behold a peaceful blue sky dotted with white clouds and no signs of a battle. Their confusion lasted only a few moments as suddenly, void rifts and portals by the dozens, even hundreds, opened in the skies and on the streets, allowing an army of Nerubians to invade all at once. The allies sprang into action, attempting to reppel an invasion force they could not even fathom.

Spells and swords clashed with venom and wing as the battle instantly grew fierce. An aerial attack causing major damage to the Violet Citadel and leading to a spire crashing down into the street divided the group in two, one on each side of the city. Both groups set out towards Krasus Landing, the city’s primary evacuation route, gathering those civilians they could along the way. Many were not so fortunate as to escale with their lives, despite the allies heartfelt attempts.

As both groups finally reunited at the gates to Krasus Landing, they quickly began evacuating citizens through a conjured portal. Meanwhile, a large explosion rocked the city and destroyed the gates of the Violet Hold. Allies rushed to aid the Kirin Tor magi in holding back all manor of terrifying threat as monsters and demons broke out of their cells and escaped. The demons and other criminals attacked fiercely, knocking many of the allies unconscious.

Just then, a large void explosion could be felt, heard and seen: the Violet Citadel, primary font of magic for the city and her spells, had gone dark. The realization that the city was lost… and would fall… dawned on the group, and an urgent call was made for every citizen, champion and ally to evacuate at once. Those that remained carried those that could not walk or run and headed for the last portals to the surface, et not all made it that far. Their fates are unknown.

This event is ongoing and will continue tonight!

Duskfall Campaign
Chapter 1: Dalaran Has Fallen…
(Part 2)

Dalaran had been destroyed.

From the surface, on the shores of a new land, those survivors who were conscious watched as what was still afloat of the glorious violet city was consumed by the void and exploded, raining dangerous debris down over the terrain. There was palpable shock and disbelief as everyone stood, or lay, shocked and without words.

That moment of terrible stillness did not last, however. The Nerubians, having accomplished their first task, were back and engaged in a full assault of the survivors on the ground.

Suddenly, they were joined by a large force of Stonewards, Earthen Stormwiders and apparent defenders of this land. This turned the tides of battle until a large explosion was heard in the distance, causing many of them to return from where they had seemed to come.

Those who could fought with a renewed vigor, eventually forming a perimeter of sorts around the crash sight. While some fought to hold the line, others rushed to search the debris field for survivors. Many were found and pulled from the rubble in various states of injury, some critical. Bodies were also found and left, for now, to rest where they lay.

After a few hours, a few Stonewards returned to the vrash site, with enough Stormrooks to carry the survivors away from the scene and to their home city of Dornogal, which had itself only recently been attacked. Those most wounded were brought to makeshift infirmaries in inns around the city, while those less critically injujured have been settled in a district of the city called Stonewards Rise.

It was time to recover and recoup, and mourn the incredible losses suffered.

Some casual role-play will happen spontaneously throughout the next few weeks, with the Campaign set to continue formally on September 21st…

The Isle of Dorn:
Dornogal

On Saturday, many survivors of the Fall of Dalaran met inside the inn at Stonewards’ Rise, a small quarter of the city its leaders have lent to the offlanders. I was the first time since the destruction of the city that some of those gathered had been healed enough to leave their bed in the makeshift infirmaries that has been created to tend to the many, many wounded.

Commander Vadinnar of the Argent Vanguard took charge of the gathering, sharing an updated list of those missing or known to be captured. Other faction leaders did the same, the Wolfmane adding one fatality to their list.

As the large group discussed a path forward, leaning heavily in favor of finding a way down to the Ringing Deeps to rescue those captured as soon as possible, some disagreement arose over the fear of rushing into a trap, though most seemed keen to move forward at an accelerated pace.

In light of the Coreway being blocked, it was mentioned that an elevator to the Deeps exists near Freywold Village. It was agreed upon to try and repair the elevator and secure a rapid way down over the next several days.
