Before you get to sour from blizcon wait till you see the first builds from SL; just because they make a sweeping statement that class revamps won’t happen they still have an opportunity to fix classes that need it. It does not make sense to avoid generalizations if only a few classes get a rework. I was disheartened as you as well but don’t jump to conclusions before you actually see anything.
As for your question your gut feeling is correct, the execute damage ST provides is worth it still. Be aware though DI is very annoying to play with (you are kind of pigeon holed because TE is bad as well). But, the jist of it is yes ST>FS even with DI.
