Dungeon Deserter Needs Another Look

Had a mage wipe us on HoA today run back and do the exact same thing again. I popped every CD and my son the healer died, we barely made it but we lived. People do stupid things sometimes in LFG. My son got kicked one pack before the last boss in PoS last night so I dropped with a “GL cya”. They had to wait for a heal and tank, lol bet we finished a new run before they got a replacement. Trying to make sense of what senseless individuals do will drive you crazy.

That is why I stopped tanking. Too many players expect the tank to be a Blizzard employee, designed to help THEM, and therefore perfect. They can’t imagine you’re a person like them, who might not have done this dungeon 45 times already…

…isn’t that what tanks do? Just run the same dungeon dozens of times?

That isn’t how it works. When in a dungeon they are ahead of new groups forming. They may have waited 30 seconds to a minute.

Really? That’s not my experience. I have waited ridiculous times before when both dropped.

I’ve never waited over 2 minutes in a 5m dungeon even at 2-4am.

You have discovered the problem with a pure democracy.

I’m pretty sure there’s more to this story

Dungeon deserter needs to remain as is.
Here is the past (and what would go back to)
Getting kicked did not give deserter.
Players (mostly tanks and healers with no queue) would hold the run hostage if they did not get the dungeon they wanted when they chose ‘random’
Player would get kicked and instantly requeue and do it again until got the one specific dungeon they wanted with getting the rewards for random.

Would you prefer we go back to the start of Cata where tanks would sit at the entrance of dungeons demanding to be kicked when they got one they didn’t like just so they can avoid the deserter debuff?

Really, I don’t think different routes should be possible in non-guild runs. It might be better in mid-to-high keys but in low-to-mid keys, people constantly flub skips and make the group lose more time than if we had just killed everything. For full-PuG runs, just enforce a single unchangeable route to make everybody’s life easier.

the group decided they want a new leader…

Even so, at the rate they were going they never finished. I was 2nd dps on both bosses without HoA or Benthic gear.

I can’t tell you how many Vortex Pinnacle groups this happened to me in. One time I joined, 3 DPS were sitting at the beginning. They were like, we’ve had to kick 6 tanks already.

So…people didn’t want to play with you, so they weren’t forced to? Sounds like it was working as intended. Also sounds like an outlier. As long as you keep pushing forward most groups won’t kick you.

Not nearly enough to cry on the forums about

play along till after the first boss…then do it the route you know is best.

Trash skips never work in LFG. Never. There is always one toon that body pulls. It’s simply not worth it. In my experience any LFG pug I’ve been in that has a player that tries to trash skip (especially a dps player), is usually extremely indicative that that player thinks they’re a lot better at the game then they actually are.

Once you realise that it is literally faster to not do skips, you’ll learn what I mean. Plaguefall is a classic example. Idiot “pro” players think they can bypass mobs by running through the goop whilst ignoring that suspicious looking swirl they’re running right towards always cracks me up .

lol, a lot of comments on here convinced there’s more to the story. I literally was pulling mobs and one of the peeps said something along the lines of, “don’t you know the routes here?”, paraphrasing of course, but they started, essentially, nagging my tanking because I wasn’t pulling the correct groups. I think it was the necrotic wake. the first big room with the different groups of mobs. They wanted to go the fast route, I guess, skipping some of the pulls. I was kicked and had to wait 30 minutes. Tanking/healing can suck as it is. blizz are making it worse with this deserter nonsense. as i stated before, i get the history of the deserter debuff. as many people have covered in this thread. in fixing one problem (tanks forcing drops), you just made it a different problem. now anyone can vote kick anyone for bogus reasons. happens all the time. i’ve had countless runs where a vote kick is initiated and I’m not even sure what it’s for. “dps is dumb” “healer is noob” “blah blah blah” . deserter debuff isn’t a fix

again, my point here is, I don’t care if people vote to kick. great, democracy in action. good job. have a cookie. i shouldn’t be penalized with a debuff for doing nothing wrong.
