Dungeon Deserter for Getting Kicked? What?

Was doing timewalking to level a shaman, the tank pulls half the instance and cant hold aggro so people die. Two other dps get voted to be kicked, one passes the other doesn’t. The reason for both, and I quote, “g@y”. Then the tank pulls half the instance again, we’re doing ok and then I get kicked. And now I have a deserter debuff? I didn’t desert, they kicked me for nothing. This is absolute crap and needs to be looked at.

That’s messed up and you’ve got my sympathy but, what can be done though?

Sadly thats the way of things. There isn’t really a way to change it either. The best thing to do is take a few deep breaths. Go find something to do for 30 minutes and try again. This has been the system, and unless a Blizz dev is monitoring EVERY single dungeon/raid, etc., there isn’t a way to implement a new method.

The guilty get punished the same as the innocent. We’ve all been there

Sounds like whoever initiated the vote kick is projecting.

So, there is a reason why you get deserter after getting kicked,

Back in wrath there was a dungeon called the Occulus which pretty much everyone hated. When particularly rude tanks and healers got it in dungeon que, they’d hold the group hostage demanding the group kick them because they simply didn’t want to do it and wanted to dodge deserter debuff.

Deserter on Kick was added to address that.

In before all the people who only run dungeons with guildies tell you that the votekick system is fair. Never let anyone tell you that. It’s garbage how it’s implemented given the amount of times these posts come up and the amount of times I’ve seen it happen to players who absolutely don’t deserve it. Everyone loves the Social Contract until it’s about the votekick. Then it’s kick anyone for any reason even if it’s a toxic reason and interferes with that player’s gaming experience. Blizzard needs to implement better moderation, which includes hiring more GMs, to navigate tickets about undeserved votekicks.

Should have reported it. That is the kind of stuff the earns people a nice vacation.

Was it stone core?

Do you realise how many posts on this topic have been posted in the last 15 years or so? It must be in the thousands by now.

I’m sure it has been ‘looked at’ a few times over the years by Blizzard. There have been changes made but only really to Mythic+. General LFG runs have pretty well been untouched since Wrath. My gut feeling is, if they had come up with alternatives they felt would work better, they’d have made the changes by now.

I still feel a graduating wait timer would be better than just a flat lockout for anyone kicked. Maybe first time of the day, no punishment, and then subsequent ones incurring increasing amounts of lockout. Whether it would be character specific or account wide I can’t tell.

Deserter on kick wasn’t added until last expansion because people were forcing groups to kick them to avoid deserter while farming trinkets from dungeons.

Sorry, but it’s been there since late Wrath for the very reason she stated. Occulus was the biggest one, but Halls of Reflection was almost as bad.

I believe it was increased to 30 minutes last expansion, before that believe it was 15 minutes.

Sure, you can report this and clog up the ticket queue, but it goes nowhere. You can’t get punished for this.

Anyone can VtK anyone at any time for any reason. Is it right or fair? Absolutely not. But them’s the brakes.

Sorry, but incorrect.

Wrath is when it was implemented.

The way it works now is different from then; the current functionality keeps people from holding groups hostage.

Report for what? If the group decides they don’t want you there, you can be kicked.

There is nothing to report.

I was there. The kick victim did nothing wrong literally at all.

And these trolls cry that no one wants to play with them.

Well, daddy blizzard tells us to treat each other respectfully…

While in Azeroth, do your best to:

Connect with other players and make friends! Being courteous in group content can help you and your teammates have the best time possible. Sending a friendly hello message can help set your group up for success.
Play as a team with your fellow players - whether in dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, arenas, or out questing in the world. Do your best to support your team through your communication and behaviors so that you can all celebrate your success together.
Assist other players that you encounter in the world. Maybe they need some help defeating a tough monster, or maybe they could use a little healing!
Help answer questions others have in chat channels like General or Trade. We were all newbies once - one person offering some help can go a long way!

It’s a big world out there, with all sorts of people in it. So please try to be respectful of each other, and if you ever feel like somebody is acting against this code, please report those behaviors so that our team can look into it. Together, you can help us make the World of Warcraft a safe home away from home for everyone.

…then turns around and literally TELLS trolls to kick you for “NO” reason at all…

So if the trolling company who makes this game is going to encourage the rancid behavior…expect the childish trolls to take them up on it.

They don’t make dungeons like that anymore so would it really be an issue in today’s day and age?

Occulus may have been the worst offender, but it wasn’t the whole story.

If there was no Deserter on kick right now, anyone who decides to quit a group for any reason could simply do nothing and hold the group hostage until they kick them.

Unfortunately, Deserter on kick is a necessary evil to keep Deserter working.

You can report for the stated reason as it states who initiated the kick. If you attempt to kick someone for a reason such as “Gay”, take a screenshot, and you can even report 'em via email due to the severity of the infraction (as this would quantify under Blizzard’s anti-hate rules, and they might have even more information regarding that user that could escalate it to targeted harassment).

Vote kicking anyone isn’t a reportable offense … but the given reason for the vote can absolutely quantify as a reportable offense, even if the vote kick doesn’t go through.

See above.

100%.
Maybe 1 in 10 kicks/ attempted kicks I see are legit.
Its nearly always some DPS or tank clown trying to kick because theyre a petulant child.
I got kicked one time years ago for refusing to hand my gear drop over to the 9 year old juvenile tank lol.
Clown literally stops the run and demands it, kept popping the trade box open. lmao.
Had he asked nicely he could have had it. Demand it like an entitled bag lady and I’ll DE it right in front of you.
bear in mind this was in a classic era retail dungeon, lmao…so nothing of any value anyway. lol.

makes sense though…this is a childs video game…so makes total sense that children are playing it.
