They should make a nostalgic side-scroller where you play as either Nathanos or Anduin to rescue Sylv from the Jailer’s tower, though the twist is that while she’s said to be in another tower, she’s actually hiding in his chest cavity.
Honestly, as much as I think “World of Warcraft 2d fighter”, the only thing I get in my head is another Soul Calibur title.
Man, I loved Soul Calibur 2, would love a WoW Calibur game. I’d probably buy the most luxe arcade sticks and build a cabinet for it.
Arthas is Siegfried, Lich King is Nightmare. Bolvar lich king is Astaroth? Maiev as Tira with the glaive makes me giggle.
That would be great!
My dream fighter would be a grid of characters, one of each spec, and they might be premade but maybe you could also do some character customisation and name them + have some legendary heroes as summons that pop in like in Marvel vs Capcom.
Baine Bloodhoof is the cameo, but he doesn’t do anything aside from appearing onscreen, shouting “For Thunder Bluff!” and vanishing.
Which genre or property most lends itself to a subscription or battlepass-friendly model by which someone is encouraged to log in every day and do chores? Because I think that’s what they’ll go with.
I feel like profit models are going to decide what happens next. Themes, gameplay and art will follow.
Perhaps something we can play with eye-tracking software alone, lest our colleagues espy the hijinks on MS Teams calls.
Or, perhaps with the merger, it will be a game that can be played IN Teams. Or instead of the standard pulsing jingle of a teams call, it’s Grom Hellscream shouting “WHO’S ORC JESUS NOW?!”
Rust but with hardcore battle royale elements. Your body stays behind when you log out and death is permanent. Kill 100 players and get a neat skin for your frying pan weapon
is there a reason to speculate that a WoW announcement would be anything other than an expansion? They’re already putting out a brand new mobile spinoff and other than phone games Blizzard hasn’t done spinoffs. is there some rumor or what
I think there was some very light teasing like an elbow nudge and eyebrow raise in some dev interview about a show, not a game, but not sure.
Rumble is the mobile tower defense game, if you’re in OCE you can have it now, unless the beta window closed. I have it, it’s highly monetised.
We’ve had Garrison apps, I personally don’t think a mobile app would recapture a lost WoW player – just from my own anecdotal evidence; sentiments of people I know who quit.
If their move isn’t an insane expansion and beyond announcement, WoW is in trouble IMO.
VR stuff is more about mammoths like MS planning for next-next gen. Like when you can smell the poop quest.
‘Vermintide but it’s the Scourge Invasion/Legion Invasion’
‘Literally Warcraft 4’
To your first point^ - The only reason anyone ever offers me as to “I’ll come back if…” is if they add player housing. Legit housing. I don’t truly believe we’re ever getting it, but I can hope.
I’m not sure what else Blizz could offer that would get a flood of people coming back. Nothing that I can think of.
To your 2nd point - Humbly, I say they are not in trouble. Are they in decline? Clearly. It’s been almost 20 years at this point. It was bound to happen.
Are they in trouble? I say, no. The general consensus estimate back in January put active player counts at *likely close to 9 million, if not slightly over (global). Subs really aren’t taken into account anymore and people come and go all the time. That said, even we were sitting at 6-7 million active players, that’s a ridiculous amount of people.
Financially speaking, WoW could drop far below those numbers and still be doing well.
I am curious how MS is going to structure things. Will subs continue to be an option? Will they be necessary? Will they come up with something else entirely? More cash shop options to offset removing a sub fee? I have a lot of questions about WoW moving forward, but I genuinely do not think they are in trouble.
Declining? Yes.
I’ve seen big sub number estimates and I’ve seen low ones, too. The real troubling numbers being the amount of guilds/people completing even normal. At least it’s up from SL.
From a non-RP perspective, high-pop and full OCE servers are getting sparse these days. In the two guilds I’m in, more than a quarter of players are gone between S1 and now. They messed up making S2 so easy to push Diablo sales – many people in my guilds jumped to Diablo after a very early AoTC and KSM, saying they’d come back next season. They are not coming back.
So maybe WoW’s not in trouble… maybe I’m in trouble, because if the pool of people to push keys and raid with takes another hit like the S2 drain, it will be devastating in terms of actually getting enjoyment out of this game.
More than fair to say.
The truth is that raiding and high-end content has never been that popular in WoW, going all the way back to Vanilla.
So many estimates of the player base that does raid or push keys, etc, but it’s fair to say 30% of the whole population would probably be a very generous guess. It would certainly stand to reason that if the player base has shrunk, the percentage of those who actually participate in high-end content has shrunk along with it.
And yet… if that 30% dissipates, and only 10% or less of people are pushing high keys or doing normal raiding, the implications for the economy and even casual content like the TW weekly quests or the “do 5 heroic quests” will suddenly become pronounced and problematic.
The bulk of players lost in my groups has been due to S2, and it’s a bit soul crushing that they’re not coming back for the next raid – though I kind of hope (hopium??) that a killer Blizzcon announcement would bring them back early in S2 due to hype?
I think that’s possible… or at least get hyped for 11.0 and come back for fated raids leading into it, idk
Pet Battle app really does seem like a gap that should have been filled ages ago, hey?
Also, you know how sometimes a favorite character on a TV show sort of vanishes and it’s like “hey, where did THEY go?” and then BAM! spin-off show?
Maybe we’ll see a spin-off game for Sylv and Anduin.
Sylvanas and Anduin’s Big Adventure.
I am sorry, but this is the first thing that sprung to mind.
I had to assemble this in Paint, don’t judge me.
Okay, maybe I deserve a little bit of judging.
Straight to the Maw.
