Yep. This has been an issue with the pet and mount ever since they were first introduced. It’s hilariously stupid but there you have it.

I don’t know if it still holds true, but for a long time you couldn’t talk about grapes on the forum.

Apparently part of the word is an old timey slur for black people.

Realistically speaking the only real issue is that Blizzards swear checker doesn’t have a better whitelist for words in which part of them is offensive, probably the best example like others have said, is for a loooong time you couldn’t link half the cloaks in the game because “drape” would be censored.

Edit: apparently the very famous mushroom from east asia is also censored.

So, seems like certain powers that maybe are literally combining Folk and False Etymology for their own creations with no regard to language evolution and redefining.

Which seems like a weird way for them to use these “questionable” words while policing them. Feels like a very silly thing to do, almost as silly as how questionable the history of the term jay walking came to be.

Nah, I’d just apply hanlons razor to it. Blizzard probably just bought/licensed a chat filter when they redid the forums and just couldn’t be bothered applying their own whitelist to it.

we’ve never been able to use npc names for pets or characters.

pokemon names are off limits.

In a similar story, the famous wow youtube LazyPeon was reported one day for “Peon” in chars name, and was forced to rename. He fought against customer support multiple times and basically told them something like “Hey, theres orc slave npcs named Peons in game, so it shouldnt be an issue”. They gave up and allowed him to get Peon back in his game. WOW CS LITERALLY dont know what game items have a nonsense censored word.

is the issue the combination of letters from j to g? it accepts single g, but i don’t understand why double g is an issue? is it some sort of slang for something? (a yes or no is enough, if it’s naughty obviously don’t type the meaning)

This reminds me of an old PS2 MMO called EverQuest Online Adventures. Right outside the dark elf starting zone there were some cockroaches, and if you had the profanity filter on, they were @#$&roaches :rofl:

Ran into this one time. I think the reason is because it’s an Indian slur, if I remember correctly.
