Druids -dps specs in classic?!

I have been a Resto Druid main and started in vanilla however I cannot remember much about druids ever having a viable dps spec. I have healed for far too long but I love my Druid. We go way back vanilla wow healing forever long AV games back. I’m tired of healing. Is there hope in a Druid dps spec? Especially a Druid dps spec in PvP?

Sadly not really. There is a DPS spec for low dungeons/leveling. But not for PvP. Most classes in classic went like this: “If you are a hybrid: you are a healer”. Like not saying they don’t work. Just saying they are sub-par. Like why take a feral druid that mimics a rogue when you can just take a rogue?

Feral is fantastic in PVP, actually.

You need to use your whole toolkit, like all hybrids always do, but a feral druid is extremely powerful in multiple different PVP situations. Among other things, they’re the best FC in the game and never need to die in a 1v1 due to their ability to just leave any fight they aren’t liking.

Boomkin may have a spot in some raiding guilds. My guild is recruiting one. They’re pretty good in PvP.

Feral ends up tanking more than dpsing. And even being a middle-of-the road dps at our best we need a Gnomer drop farmed, consumables, and to use “powershifting” to keep up at all. It’s fun. Don’t get me wrong, but if topping charts is your goal find another class. That said druids are awesome FCs in Warsong Gultch. PvP as a druid is fun and you’re a very valuable part of your team. Don’t expect to solo. Expect to kite a lot of people in order to have a shot at killing them.

Feral is viable. It’s not going to dish out the same DPS as a rogue, warrior, or mage, but neither will a hunter or warlock. They’ll be behind. A Feral can however bring a lot of utility and can both heal and tank if needed to.

It’s farm intensive though. On top of consumables, you need to farm Manual Crowd Pummelers from Gnomeragan and you’ll need to use a helm from 40~ or so pretty much forever.

PvP as Feral is more than viable. They’re the best flag carriers in WSG, and are very hard to kill. You want to be a Feral/Resto hybrid here. They’re also strong 1v1’s, as they outlast opponents.

Balance is… not viable.

RISE UP MOON CHICKENS WE SHALL HAVE OUR DAY!

Agreed, i played Oomkin in vanilla; once you get a bit of decent gear you can pretty much just wrath someone to death in-front of you. Good times.

Also have the option of using all of the Moonfire ability ranks one after the other and watching the dots kill them as you run away. Worked wonders till it was nerfed.

The main reason for this was because there were a distinct lack of healers to fill raid/dungeon spots… this is often overlooked

Its nice that druids are the best flag carrier, but that matters in 1 of 3 battlegrounds and not at all in world pvp.

Sadly no. Anyone who recruits a druid for dps are kidding themselves. I’ll be going back to my vanilla healing ways.

Holy or maybe dark

Well, druids were kinda rare but when I saw cat druid killing people in orgrimmar who were running out of the que building and soloing thrall it made me see that druids were very cool.

You can play as feral in pvp or boomy if you get the gear if you want, in previous expansions I have always healed people while playing feral druid or guardian to support my allies, that is kinda how you play a hybrid spec the way it was design in pvp though most people focus on mashing buttons.

So try them if you want it should be good in AV.

A deep balance build can do a lot of burst damage and is almost impossible to kill if the druid wants to run away. I think NS is better than moonkin form though. All 3 druid trees are good for pvp.

one thing that never changed for 15 years

Another one of these threads…

Yes, you can dps as a druid. No, you will not be as strong as a committed dps class- that is the hybrid tax. You can do it all, but not as well as others.

You have to work really hard to be competitive, and still won’t do as much as the main three. And that’s fine honestly.

Mayhap, but my best friend played a druid healer and we had zero problems doing any content. I think people worry too much about meta, tbh.

Well… I meant DPS-wise, main three being warrior, rogue, and mage. They’re weaker healers individually than the other three healers but bring utility none of them bring.

How about this, OP: I’m a Vanilla veteran, and I’ll be running a tank. I won’t be turning away feral druids just 'cause. Or balance druids, or enhancement shamans, etc.

There are bound to be plenty more like me, so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

People are going to be like “No ferals allowed”

And then all the melee dps and hunters will leave to join a raid will a feral druid for that sexy 3% crit.

The raid spots for a feral druid will likely be limited. BUT druid is most likely going to be one of the least represented classes so it balances itself out.
