I mean… they’ve recently launched Cata Classic which was always going to have people flock to that for at least the first month to level up their toons and muck about for a little while. They also just released MoP: Remix which is where I myself and a fair bit of my guild is palling around till P4. In the end, I personally view all the non-retail WoW servers as generally the same player base. Things ebb and flow as they goooooo. But wow players such as yourself for example, LOVE to be doom and gloom at all times.

You can look back at all the posts from the end of p1 up to this point. There’s plenty by now.
Constant crazy player dropoff, and people always come in with the “well X just launched”, “well, the weather is nice”, “well, people are waiting for X”.
The fact is that SoD is not holding players, and they’d rather do just about anything else than play SoD at this point.
There will literally always be something else. Almost 90% of the initial player base has chosen something else up to this point. None have really come back.

The issue that most people are overlooking is what we were fed from the developers. They specifically stated that Phase 4 of SoD is being pushed off to give Cataclysm room to breathe and the release “it deserves.”
If the expansion was a wild success this effort would make sense, but it’s a total disaster. The entire launch experience has been filled with game breaking bugs as stated by other commentors and the forums are in complete disarray.
The community voices its opinion but falls on deaf ears. The development team can say whatever they want but the obvious fact above all else is that they continue to fall short of expectations and cannot execute the most basic of tasks. They need to pick ONE iteration of the game and focus on it. Going from Era, to SoD, to Plunderstorm, to MoP: Remix, to Cataclysm Classic, and now The War Within prerelease all within 6 months is absolutely brainless. Blizzard clearly doesn’t have the staff to support this mess but my issue is that the developers are not communicating with us. We deserve, at a minimum, a weekly livestream Q&A with updates and community questions polled. Jagex successfully did this with Old School Runescape and they are a small indie company in comparison.

It’s dying exactly as fast as those with any experience with fresh vanilla knew it would. I have posts pre launch detailing why we would be dead in p3, gdkp ban sure did make it grimmer than I expected though.

GDKP ban is just about the only thing SoD has done right.
-Failure to balance pvp
-Completely changing class mechanics/feel
-Destroying gear progression as it relates to health/damage/mana costs
-complete failure to adress queu timers.
-Lack of engaging content to participate in
-The content that was designed, was modeled after the AQ40 quests, which are/where one oof the low points of regular vanilla.

They did kind of undo the good of GDKP ban by introducing the ability to print money from incursions.

are you serious? most of my original group quit because of how terrible 25-40 with dungeon spam was. there was no new content between min and max lvl aside from the sleeping bag quest so you were incentived to cap as fast as possible and with monotonous grinding that caused mass burnout.
even though it was poorly executed id take incursions as a new way to level over dungeon spam again. it was repetitive but it was also fast and if you were in it early the pvp was actually fun.
it’s gonna be a loooooong phase lol.
a lot of guilds with multiple 20 man raids have moved away from a fixed roster temporarily to a signup system because people just don’t to do it anymore or are making excuses not to show.

Obviously not for everyone but after a couple false starts (it’s very easy to accidentally make gimped characters) I finally got the ball rolling and am having a good time.
Putting all my eggs in the SoD basket was a mistake. Sod is amazing in concept but WoW is fundamentally a live service game. These stretches of time where the game is fully abandoned because they’re working on a completely different game are not okay.
