This is in MoP Classic but I suspect applies to all game versions including retail, since this is a very old issue.
When completing the Drake Hunt quest in Coldarra, you have to use a spear to capture a blue dragon hatchling. After a delay, it’s supposed to leash to you and you bring it back to the red dragon hideout to turn in.
However it is extremely glitchy. My latest encounters below, but people have reported all kinds of buggy behavior ever since Wrath came out.
The REALLY stupid, terrible, why-the-hell-didn’t-you-just-patch-this-15-years-ago part is that the spear has a 3 minute 20 second cooldown. (Plus, this quest is usually the only one you’re doing in the area, since the quests “running in parallel” to some prior quests has ended by this point.) So if your spear fails twice? You get to wait around for 7 minutes doing absolutely nothing! Or fly halfway across the zone to do something else for a minute and then fly back. It’s a TERRIBLE player experience.
I assume the devs have found themselves incapable of actually fixing these bugs. If that’s the case, for the love of god, please just set the spear cooldown to 30 seconds. Why on earth it was 3m20s in the first place is beyond me.
First try: I was on a ledge on the side of one of the blue dragon structures, which might have affected the behavior. The spear landed, the drake focused on me (but didn’t move) with its debuff ticking down. After the debuff ran its full duration, the drake just turned away and went about its merry way.
Second try: I made sure to do it from the open ground this time. After the spear cast completed and the animation played out, the hatchling immediately evaded and went off again. It’s possible I might have moved slightly at some point during this process.
Third time’s the charm.
PLEASE just change the cooldown. This bug is old enough to vote.
