My basic take is that Dragonflight is neither horrible nor particularly wonderful. It’ll go down in history as a largely forgettable expansion, I think.
That is not good enough. There need to be trials.
Truly an experience of all time. Certainly a story. I mostly enjoy the fact that it has characters and a setting. Very much sufficient.
Get some rest!
After Shadowlands this is an improvement
its better than chasing sylvannas and andy around and everyone being like, i wonder what sylvannas is doing. going after big dragon trying to burninate the world is pretty fun.
there also seems to be some proper build up to some future cosmic stuff, do i groan and cringe when i think about shadowlands and its attempt at other wordly cosmic stuff, yes, yes i do. But at least this seems to have some decent steps towards it.
- big rock dragon is meddling in the void
- apparently the titans might be crappy guys and we’re finally gonna punch odyn in the face
are the aspects kinda boring, sure but they’re at least delightful and pleasant to be around. Also I like chromie
I predict SL will one day be retconned into a construct of the Void Lords used to trick us into believing vampires held better parties than Blood Elves.
I mean
I’ve put forwards that using the whole thing like the Matrix, that it was a simulation where we’re just rando souls, not world-saving super-heroes, and that the question of if we ever actually broke out or not could be a hell of a plot point.
Do we always win because we’re just that good, or are we still in our tanks being fed Happy Vibes to keep us docile and submissive while the Jailer goes about re-writing reality to suit his agenda.
And that would be the hilarious thing. We eventually do get decanted aaaaand … it really is a better universe, and Zovaal is doing a Thanos, just farming crops, and when confronted about why he portrayed himself as an abhorrent monster, sadly tells us we’re so conditioned by our own experiences we literally could not conceive of a being of God-like powers who was not overtly malevolent or plotting treachery in the future, and trying to introduce himself as anything but one of those two archetypes caused us to go into open revolt against the system and become aware we were trapped in a simulation.
Agreed.
Its down-to-earth stuff, helping already established lore characters, in a land conceived of during the initial development of World of Warcraft.
Big HUGE faction leaders are mostly not involved, which I LOVE. As an adventurer, I should rarely come across Thrall or Callia, and thats okay. Seeing them should be a privilege.
The world is vast and the content is coming out slow enough to enjoy it, yet fast enough to not get bored. Druids of the flame are assaulting the entirety of the Isles. We shouldn’t be able to defeat them in a 2-hour quest line. It makes sense that this is going on for weeks.
Big thumb’s up from me!
After the Legion Assaults from 7.1 and definitely from Legion Prepatch, the Waking Dreams feel pretty limp. The druids of the flame are definitely here I guess but the Legion sent, you know, LEGIONS of demons to fight us and there was a lot to do with the demon grist they dropped.
I sure do like flying around and collecting green dust, though. Dragonflying will never get boring.
I am currently at the part in Zaralek Caverns where I have to hang out for five minutes while the NPCs do an unfunny bit.
I cannot emphasize enough what amazing quest design this is.
I’m not sure I understood a single thing about Zaralek Caverns existence, but I got a hat out of it, so there was that.
I honestly cannot see what makes the Djaradin that interesting. Even the dragons have no animosity toward them. They’re literally just plot devices.
When wrathion and sabellion were current content they were into play more, but they were definitely hyped up as major enemies of the dragon to be almost complete led ignored as soon as the next patch dropped
That sounds a lot like uh… one whole third of Cataclysm. Or maybe I just thought Uldum was too hammy.
No, you’re totally correct.
Except it’s somehow worse, because the Cataclysm humor was exclusively pop culture references. And that’s not great, but at least I understood the joke.
Dragonflight has the same inability to treat anything seriously but it’s reliant on Blizzard’s own wit. So we end up with stupid “door won’t open…oh silly me, I said the wrong command word, haha now door WILL open” jokes.
This company is run by art criminals.
