I am planning on maining as an alliance hunter and wanted to know which leatherworking specialization should i pick.
I know Tribal gives the devilsaur set which is BiS for both rogues abd hunters, giving a nice gold bump on inital launch.
Dragonscale creates the black dragon mail set which provides FR but hinters dont really need resistances for raids so i would have to sell them to shamans on the AH in booty bay.
DS does create the dreamscale breastplate which is BiS for paladins? But that doesnt come out until like phases 4.
I want to give LW a good shake but im wondering which spec is the better money maker / pve gear for endgame content
- As a Hunter, Dragon Scale.
- As a Leatherworking making profit, Tribal.
You need to choose your priority.

And kitty druids, and fury warriors. But due to this set, MANY players will be going Tribal. A Dragonscale LW is much harder to find, thus the gear ends up being more valuable, when wanted.

Hide of the wild and corehound belt are tribal.

The money potential on either is pretty much the same. More people want devilsaur made, but as a result, far more people go tribal, so it evens out. Thereâs far less other people with dragonscale⊠but practically no one cares about its crafts. Your best money actually comes from skinning, or creating hides, where your spec ultimately doesnât matter. If you can kill the dinos, you could farm them without even having leatherworking.
Black dragon is a set youâve very little reason to use on a hunter. Youâve better options for every slot. The most obvious are truestrike/devilsaur. Assuming you want fire resist, the nightbrace drop from UBRS is FREE. Also, the leather corehound boots are better than black dragon. You just donât have a set bonus. But you really donât need fire resist, so donât invest too much in it. Youâll also drop everything for giantstalker as soon as you get them.
Dreamscale is a craft youâll probably never see anyone use nor ask for. The only time I ever made this was for my own hunterâs nature resist set. No one else ever asked for it to be crafted, nor did I ever see anyone else use it. Thatâs not to say itâs a bad item⊠itâs just that ironvine+sandstalker are on the same slot and cheaper to make. Thereâs also the free T2 chest, which is much earlier in the gameâs timeline, and already has some nature resist.
Thanks for the explanation
As a hunter, you might want to do the math, late MC, abit in BWL, survival hunters will pass MM hunters, due to agiltiy stacking⊠with raid buffs, stacking agility, will give you more AP and Crit, since surival hunters have 15% extra agilityâŠ
and in 1.12 ⊠1agi = 2ap, not counting crit etc
As a hunter, go DS. In most organized raiding guilds, the leadership will have an appointed Tribal in which upgrades are allocated from.
You donât get more crit as survival, but you get more AP, and this ends up becoming more valuable in the end. Raw crit items are strong early on, and this why marks is viewed as better. But after T1, marks hunters canât keep enough of a lead on crit to keep up with the ever increasing AGI rates. The surv hunter with far higher AP, but less crit, will outshoot the marks guy. I should also point out that survival can max the health talent, and the same AGI gear is covered in STA. This means that on top of outshooting them, you also get 1-2k more health. Yet another benefit is that by not having imp hawk, you spend less ammo.
No longer need primal LW to make devilsaur set
