its not flying enough. it needs more danger - overspeeds, proper stall mechanics, structural overload risk, proper damage modeling, proper crash mechanics. Mid air collisions should be a thing as well
Also they could do more for the areas where flying is not allowed. No more 10 second debuff then punted off, make it like 5 seconds but then you start taking “fire”. Small hits first but it soon starts to scale up. Kind of like being dialed in by AA fire. Once they get you locked in, then you’ll actually die really fast. So you still have a chance to get down but not too much, and its not the cheesy “everything fine, everythings fine, everythings fine and now you’re falling”
I disagree. Dragonriding is more immersive. Is it less convenient? Sure.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing either. Flying should have never been the de facto method of travel. It should have been for covering great or perilous distances. Not for node-hopping or essentially avoiding the world to fixate on only the things you want.
Requiring player input is immersive. Dragonriding has more of a sense of gravity in the world. It is distinctly different from any other form of travel. It is unique. As it should be.
Ah yes old flying press space bar aim in direction of place I want to go and hit auto run the watch YouTube until I get near the place I want to go. Really makes me feel part of the world
Counterpoint.
Yes it is immersive.
Checkmate. That’s why they’re called opinions.

So… Old flying is not immersive. It is simply a way to travel between two points. It it is not really as immersive as swimming in the game either. Swimming, you do have freedom of movement, but you also have breath. To where unless you have a potion or ability, you can only do so for a finite amount of time.
Dragon Riding is flying, because it has some of the actual mechanics of flight.
Immersed has two meanings. One is to submerge into something. The other is to involve oneself in and activity deeply in an activity or interest.
This is quality post, Pinar. 10/10.

Old flying is alt-tab and watch YouTube how immersive is that?
I…uh…um…do you even know what “immersive” means?

I think you may want to reassess your definition of the word immersion.

Sorry dude but there no immersion in old flying. Immersion means you have an experience that feels real and dragon riding is close to what actual pilots have to deal with on a daily basis even animals that fly have to consider all these things.
Old world flying isnt realistic and thus not immersive no animal can just make a 90 degree flight up and can stay airborn in place for hours.
Old flying is coming back but its being timegated sadly.

Couldn’t agree more, having to deal with dragon riding has kept me away from the expansion.
Flying used to be a relaxing thing, I can just set my path and go.
My time is valuable and while I do enjoy playing the game It’s nice to be able to set auto run and take care of some other things while I’m on my way to the next place.
Dragon Riding is just flying but with extra steps.
It’s not fun.

In standard flight I can:
- Soar/climb
- change my angle of flight
- dive
- skim
- hover
- change direction
- come to a stop or pause
The only differences with dragonriding are (1) that it requires a form of power that must be constantly refilled, (2) you can’t hover and (3) its faster.
Dragons don’t have fuel tanks. I think we can admit they are magical creatures and requiring them to be limited by something like Vigor, as if they were a real world horse that runs out of energy after running fast, is utterly illogical. The ‘mechanics’ are exactly that- mechanical fakery put into the system to give people something they have to do while realistically only wanting to get from Point A to Point B.
Why should a magical form of flight in a fantasy game require that sort of thing to make it feel more “real”? If I want reality, I can go out and get in my car.
Flight is a means of transport. They made it a gimmick. And that’s fine for those who like gimmicks. Me, I just want standard flight so I can use all my flying mounts and travel from point to point without the gimmickry.

I mean just add it also and let people choose if they want to go slow. Cap flying at 300% and dragonriding +700. Call them on their bs when they complain that they are too slow though.
And yet, people were perfectly happy with standard flight when it was just called flight. I cannot recall anyone bemoaning what a terrible travel system it was.
Me, I wouldn’t mind at all if I was limited to standard flight speeds in the Dragon Isles. At least I would get to admire the environment as I flew without having to worry about filling up the little fake blue balls; as if dragons need vigor to fly. They never did before. It’s just pointless detail. The only thing that matters to most people is the speed, and I’ll take my many flying mounts over speed any day.

I mean, is it though? They got this many bites from people with zero reading comprehension. I think this was a masterclass troll.

The amount of people who dont realize OP is using immersed as in immersed in liquid is very amusing.
