For Legion you need to upgrade your patterns and they give points again. If you click the pattern and mouse over the stars it should tell you were to get the next level from. Most are from quests I believe.
It has been forever since I leveled Draenor professions, but if you click the “unlearned” tab it should show you a bunch of patterns you need and some of them are bound to give points.

Think most of WoD crafting is through the Garrison.
Legion you need to buy new patterns from either the PVP vender or Rep venders.
