Canonically, the lightfoged aren’t a race…or rather they aren’t exclusive to Draenei. They are far more akin to a zealous religious cult. It just so happens that, culturally, the space goats are all pretty much gung ho about the light.
And this is the real reason. Alliance have been shafted, narratively speaking, for awhile now and Blizzard needed answers to planned unique Horde allied races.

Which will always make me wonder how Lothraxion was converted instead of being flat out destroyed by Xe’ra.
Lightforged are zealots who take their beliefs to a whole other level. They have a ceremony similar to paladins where they become infused with the light, vs standard Draenei who are your run of the mill worshipers.
Lightforged Draenei is the laziest Allied Race concept that Blizzard ever made and it’s not even close. At least HMT and Maghar were culturally distinct from the mainstream races. LFD are just the same light worshippers as regular Draenei, only with tattoos this time.

I’d personally love to see more race options for them.
How cool would it be for a race pick to be about an order/group rather than actual race.

I saw this video recently talking about how a lot of us when younger related to certain characters and races of tragic origins like Sylvanas.
For blood elves the original idea of a will to survive, at all costs, challenging the odds, and even the addiction but self-control mixed with a dark fantasy, just made me love them.
oh no i just believe blood elves are the superior beings. they are perfection incarnate.

Functionally Undead Paladins are a kind of Lightforging, where their faith is so strong that they can still remain a Paladin despite their nature being antithetical to it.
