Auchindoun was the site of a great battle and siege and most of the bodies you see are those of Orcs who died in mass wave assaults upon the defenders, who were relatively few in number.
As a way of defeating the Siege, Gorefiend used Warlock Magicks to infiltrate behind the lines and deep into the tomb city where he discovered the souls of the dead and began to feast upon them.
Growing in power, blood-lust and viciousness, he then left the depths and using his power destroyed much of the upper layers of the site, vaporizing the defenders.
