That is not what the black dragonflight is about. Shamanism is the domain of the protodragons, once they got the industrial scale exposure to arcane (order) magic they stopped being able to do that.
We literally just had en entire expansion about this.
Players wanted Dracthyr to be anything other than Evoker, so, Blizzard gave them the basic Classes. Shaman would need more work with Race defined Totems.
what about the rest of the races waiting yrs? lol they should be the last ones to get anything as they got 3 whole original classes (one kinda being a semi shaman) and the “base” classes. they had their turn, shaman elves now.
Don’t know about Shaman but I’m sure other classes will come eventually.
I feel like Monk is likely. And if they can be priests I feel like Paladins wont be too far behind. DK probably too, if lore supports more DKs being made currently? Not up on that lore honestly so don’t know.
They’re so picky about letting races be Druids I don’t see that any time soon.
If they add Monk I’d strongly consider race changing. I love SOAR so much, but I hate their transmog limitations. I really hope that change that eventually. I’d also love to see other race options for visage but probably not.
Sure, if you completely ignore the fact that basically every other black dragon was dead, corrupted, missing, or not born yet (e.g. wrathion). That was rather pivotal in the entire expansion, from the first raid where you fight the twilight broodmatron to the final raid in that expansion where you fight the final twilight experiment that deathwing made.
But yea, if you completely ignore all the lore and the wherabouts of the black dragons then sure, Thrall was asked to do it because he was a a super good shaman guy who shamans real well with all his shamanism.
Red flight uses fire
Black flight uses earth and also fire
Blue flight uses ice (water)
Bronze flight uses sand (earth)
Green flight uses green winds (air)
Dracthyr definitely should be alowed to be shamans, since they have powers from all flights.
You’d think, but do they actually have a connection to the elements?
The primitive forms of the aspects were probably heavily tied to the elements. But me thinks when they ascended to aspects via the titans power, that would have severed their connection.
Also I can’t say I’ve seen any of them actually try to commune with the elements. They all use magic. Now the primalists on the other hand are heavily tied to the elements as we got to see first hand.
Honestly, I personally thought that the ‘DRAGONFLIGHT’ expansion – with the Primalists & all, was the perfect opportunity for Blizzard to broaden out Shamans to additional races.
Mind you, I’m still vehemently against “All Races = All Classes” – However what I am all for, is what Blizzard ACTUALLY said — which was more classes available to races."
As for the Primalists -
The Primalists had an awesome concept for how so many other unconventional races were able to attain shamanism and gain tremendous powers. Whether that was from:
Influential & wise Primal Dragons, or the Primal Incarnates themselves imbuing them with immense powers and the gifts of shamanism
Powerful Elemental Spirits gifting them with great spiritual and elemental power.
Through artifacts shared, discovered or searched by the forces of the above - which were able to bless the individuals who were able to tap into their power and be ascended to new possibilities henceforth.
And so on …
The diplomacy with the Primalists
As for the story reasons with such Primalist potential to become playable?
It would’ve been wicked cool if we could’ve had former Primalists join us for various reasons, such as:
Having a change of heart with the lengths some went …
Feeling they fulfilled their purpose with Raszageth’s success in freeing her kin; thus joining us to prevent things going too far or prevent other dangers from the world
When Fyrakk when kookoobananas
When Vyranoth sided with Alexstrasza to stop Fyrakk
To pose an acceptable reason for joining us, but in reality still be loyal to Iridikron
And so on.
There’s a large roleplay treasure hoard of lore there for Blizzard to utilise.
So as for shaman for Dracthyr?
I could see that, for sure I mean among the Primalists you had Tarasek and the Drakonid who were blessed by the elements or utilised various forms of shamanism — Having the Dracthyr use such gifts & powers wouldn’t be too far behind.
Primalist Origins for Dracthyr -
You could even go as far to use the Primalist lore too – such as Iridikron feeling they were wronged by Neltharion, just like he was — along with believing ALL dragon kind should embrace their elemental heritage, whether or not they’ve been … Altered.
Additionally, based on the Dracthyr’s origins – You may be able to have some Dracthyr start to “Remember life before” — as Drakonid or even Tarasek, before they either joined Neltharion willingly (or were taken unwillingly) — To become Dracthyr …
I’m not sure about you – but I later remembered being a Drakonid hero, who eventually followed with Neltharion to “help with a project” and then become a twink-dragon who had their memories wiped – Hell, I’D wanna join the Primalists too
Honestly, whenever they use the “totems” or “mounts” (for paladins) excuse, I just think of the 172 new mounts and color variants they designed for Shadowlands and realize it’s not because they don’t have the resources, they are just being lazy.
The objective of the Dracthyr was to give access to the other dragonflight’s powers to Neltharion via his shiny new slave army of test-tube creatures. He and all of his subordinates could already do black dragon stuff.
Just kidding, it’s dumb that they can’t be shaman. Probably boils down to the creation of new totem art assets requiring them to pay someone (yucko)
