Downloader broken. stuck on initializing,

Only thing I’ve done that helped me is making sure the Battle.net app is staying updated. Instead of opening battle.net. I open the installer instead as it will update it and open it after it’s finished.

Seems the app is getting stuck on updating while it’s trying to download the patch. Wife had the same issues. Since I’ve kept it updated, I no longer get the initializing bug. Hope this helps. Open the blizzard app installer and let it update.

will give this a try!

Literally just paid 200 dollars just to have the installer not work. Guess I have to refund. Not a good way to get new players when you are marketing a new expansion. And my battle.net app was just installed, so it’s not outdated.

yeah this didnt work. so it is indeed an issue with the launcher, as random as it may be.

Same issue here, not able to get update and stuck in continuous loop of Scanning. I’ve tried all the steps Blizz has to offer (uninstall/reinstall BNET, remove folders, removed AV clients, etc…). Nothing has worked. Both Wrath and Retail are doing this now.

Been trying to download for a week. woke up today to try it again and its working.

Tried doing an update with a different game and it is updating just fine. But both Classic and Retail are on continuous loops trying to update and then goes directly to scanning files.

So I got mine to finally install by restarting windows into safemode with networking… ran it and it updated, and then restarted my computer and could play the game.

Hey guys, I posted this earlier on a dif thread. I had the same issue. Didn’t read all of the reply’s but figured I post anyways. I live in the Bay Area. Couldn’t for the life of me download the game on my main gaming desktop. Or my new laptop.
What worked for me:
I went on vacation to San Diego. At the resort I stayed we had AT&T coming in from Mexico. (I pinged it to see where it was coming from) lo and behold it started to download the moment I turned on my laptop. I didn’t delete any data or files or anything. It just picked up from where it was stuck. My suggestion is trying to set your VPN to Mexico.

me too. i uninstalled mcafee., still no help

Same problems here only happens when trying to download retail WoW, stuck on infinite loop initializing 2145581\2145581. Tried reinstalling bnet and everything else nothing changes.
Its been trying to download for 20+hrs now and wont get past initializing.

Classic WoW, D3, and D2 all download just fine.

This is the correct answer for some reason!
Thank you!

I can also confirm that I had this same problem. And that the only thing that seemed to work was resetting into Safe Mode (with Networking). I was able to patch from there with no issue.

Same problem, been dealing with it for the past couple of days. My new computer was doing the update loop and wouldn’t change. Tried every fix I could find. Opened the app this morning and it still was stuck. After maybe twenty minutes of the app doing the loop it started to download. I changed nothing.

Decided to return to the game after not playing for a long time … Having a same Issue
Way to welcome me back LOL

Hey friends,

Thank you for taking the time to report this. Update errors like this one are typically caused by a conflicting third-party program, damaged/corrupted local Battle.net files, or a problem connecting to the patching server. Try the following steps to narrow this down:

  1. Fully update or temporarily uninstall antivirus programs which may be interfering with your connection to the patching server. If you’d like more information on troubleshooting security applications, click here

  2. Reinstall the Battle.net Desktop App with these steps:

Uninstall the Blizzard Battle.net App (skip Step 6 for now, we will re-install later).

    • Next (before re-installing) let’s delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders in the Windows temporary file locations below. If you don’t see all 3 folders in each location, that is okay—just delete the folders you have):

    • Press Windows Key + R and type: %LOCALAPPDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.
    • Repeat the process for %APPDATA%, %TEMP%, and %PROGRAMDATA%. Delete any Battle.net, Blizzard, and/or Blizzard Entertainment folders.

    • Finally, re-install the App.

If the problem continues, temporarily test a different network such as a mobile hotspot to determine whether the problem is isolated to your current network.

Hopefully, one of these steps will do the trick. Please let us know if you have any questions or run into additional issues.

Hi Skelgarer,

Still having the same issue. Followed instructions and did the following in order:

Uninstalled battle.net
deleted all the folders mentioned
disabled antivirus
reinstalled battle.net

Still looping with “initializing (2145581/2145581)”. Any other ideas?

And to be clear, I deleted EVERY folder, including program files, so WoW is no longer on the system to repair. This would be a fresh install/download, and I can’t get it going.

Hello Skelgarer! I followed every instruction to the letter and still have the same problem where I am stuck at 2145581/2145581.

Also nothing , tried everything, might try deleting express vpn ?

Edit : Retried the blue post to exact recipe and still stuck on the same loop on battlenet with initializing at 2145581 looping,
