Grappling hook I can shoot basically anywhere nowadays, it works a lot like leap. DoS is the only movement ability I cannot get to work in any useful way, you must have the magic touch because I’ve never seen anybody even cross a gap with it.
a) it’s utility movement for classes that are lacking
b) it’s a great get-out-of-snares move when specced that way. Or, a great aoe disorient
Sure, it’s got a cast time which kind of stinks. Honestly I’d love the ability to cast it while moving, and I’d have no complaints at all.
The pure unbridal rage around this is just amazing. Truly it is.
Like watching elementary children going back and forth over something extremely trivial…
“Does too!” “Does Not!” for all eternity…
Soon, I hope it will evolve into whose dad can beat up the other’s dad cause one has a slightly less embarrassing job.
I like it on my priest. If anything, I think they could knock .5 seconds off the cast time and it would be excellent
And enemies will hit harder with new content?? Flesh craft is so weak and I would take DoS in an instant if I could, which will keep it’s power through the xpac like… come on, I know you are not that dumb to ignore yourself countering your own post.
Its become actually very useful for a wheelchair like me. I can teleport to different spots in dungeons. I think you’re just pressed because you have a lot of mobility. Change your cov if you don’t like it.
ive used it exactly once so far. its pretty much pointless.
Love when people blame an ability for their own lack of imagination. I’ve found plenty of uses for it.
I use it all the time. But I don’t use it like some sort of speed boost like blink. I use it as it was intended, to get places I normally couldn’t.
You mean the one that’s on a two minute cooldown? Not quite Blink.
Also: I’m tired of them taking away abilities similar to Blink. They took away Shaman and Druid abilities, because there was some QQ “they can’t have Blink, that’s ours!” ![]()
I am trying to find out what use the mage Vanthyr active ability is. Would be a bit more useful if was instant but it isn’t and it really doesn’t provide enough damage or utility to justify disrupting your rotation to use it.
-edit to add-
That said… I actually like Door of Shadow. As someone who likes to explore and get into places that you typically aren’t supposed to be able to… it has its uses. I don’t think it is really intended to be a combat ability much in the same way as the Night Fae secondary Soulshape.
It’s easily my favorite secondary ability in the game of all the covenants.
No idea what you’re talking about.
Lets my paladin get places it otherwise could not. Has some Torghast and soulbind utility. And I’ve used it to escape bad situations in pvp.
It’s a nice perk. Nothing earth shattering, but still nice.
It’s a magical version of grappling hook.
My husband finds plenty use for it to get past annyoing traps in Torghast, or to sneak past certain spawns.
This Warlock didn’t find must use for it either and switched to Necrolord. With both gateway and demonic circle, why do I need ANOTHER movement ability with a cast time?
It’s entirely your fault for choosing this covenant as a demon hunter. I’m sure you were aware this ability doesn’t synergize with your class before picking venthyr. As a shaman, I use this ability in almost every encounter to jump over fire/bad stuff. I can see how a demon hunter would not find many uses for it.
This is my biggest issue with it. However I’ve still found some uses for it.
To get the the ledges in the final boss of the raid as melee (since you know, most melee don’t have double jump+glide). A few torghast areas I’ve had some use for it. I also had a lot of great use for it while treasure hunting.
EDIT: also to get past traps in the other side
As a DK I was really excited about this ability, but it isn’t nearly as good as I thought it would be.
It is ok for open world exploring if you’re patient enough to get around the constant “no path available”. I have gotten a few treasures I otherwise would not have and its gotten me up a few hills that I otherwise would have had to go around.
In combat its almost worthless because of the cast time. Anything you need to get out of will likely kill you in 1.5 seconds and as far as covering ground you really aren’t getting much further than if you just ran.
I think most people’s (myself included) poor opinion comes from it not filling the role of a traditional mobility ability. Its an explorer ability, not a mobility ability.
It is slightly good on paladins, when you find yourself with pony on cooldown it may be the difference between life and death.
That being said - no, it isn’t good and it fails in comparison to Night Fae’s blink. Not to mention, many BiS covenants for ALL classes lean toward night fae more than Venthyr, so they likely arent losing much to get not one - but up to 3 blinks…
Cast time should definitely be shorter, or range longer, or maybe a MS buff after the cast so it can also be used pre-emptively.
