100% agreed.
well i think they killed the same bird twice with two stones. the complaint in bfa was that M+ and raids were mandatory to gear for pvp. they fixed the gear distribution issue with the pvp vendor flat out, but also nerfed the drop rate of PVE gear so that it didn’t feel mandatory.
if they went back to the wod style of scaled up ilvl pvp gear, then there would be no reason they couldn’t go back to raining loot from the sky in pve.
It really saddens me to know that somehow people are unhappy with (mostly for the wrong reasons, as the source of most problems are PvE gearing being garbage) the current system.
We’re finally able to PvP and hop into a PvE dungeon / raid with great gear if we want… if this happens we’re not going to be able to do that anymore on top of having that IO score BS so good luck with that. On top of this, we’re going to lose fresh blood and the casual population of PvP that’s been amazing.
I cannot stress how awesome it’s been to be able to do RBG’s and chill when done pushing 3’s for the day and there is always groups up…
Which is basically how the game has always been, and there’s nothing wrong with that…
That’s not how it’s always been, like almost every other MMO it’s cross contamination of content. You can PvE to get an awesome item to use in PvP or PvP to get awesome gear to PvE. The whole point is that you can bounce between both, that’s the point of an MMO.
I don’t understand it for the life of me why people are fighting for segregation of PvP and PvE so much. Mark my words, if this goes through you can say goodbye to the massive amount of people PvPing right now and I’m not just talking about the people being boosted.
if every other MMO jumped off a bridge should WOW follow?
I’ve been advocating for a system where gear from rated PvP can be used to full effect in PvE but gear from unrated systems can’t but is competitive with rated gear in pvp only.
That way, there is incentive and a reward for doing rated pvp while the urated pvpers can enjoy random bgs/casual pvp without getting gear stomped.
So something like this:
- Rated gear fully functional in all aspects of the game.
- Unrated gear scaled down in PvE but good enough to compete with rated gear in Pvp.
i have to disagree i would be willing to bet ALOT more ppl will come back and play i have seen it all over forums in game and youtube comments. If people want to do pve and pvp do both not hard
No?
I don’t understand the point of even saying this? You realize there are also other MMO’s that do a lot of systems WoW fails at (Open World Content is a great example) much better.
As a designer myself, I actually think your idea is amazing NGL haha.
just because other mmos do something doesn’t mean its worth doing too.
the problem with using a genre is that it is a limiting definition. you are trying to make the game fit the limited concept of genre instead of just letting it be what is best.
Fair enough, like I said above… I really hope I’m wrong with what I think will happen to the PvP population if this system gets implemented and they don’t just fix PvE gearing and keep PvP gearing how it is.
The gearing system of wod still let you jump into pve with pvp gear though… so I guess I don’t get what your point is.
In wod, conquest gear was 710 in pve, and 740 in pvp. If I recall, normal raid gear was 710 and mythic was 730ish. So you could do all content in gear from wherever, but the best gear for specific content came from that content, which makes complete sense.
There’s no hidden math. It’s a straightforward item level bump. You are conflating the two systems (WoD item level scaling and BfA hidden scaling) because they both use the word “scaling” in their descriptions. They are nothing alike and there is nothing hidden or bad about item levels jumping so all PvP gear is equal when engaged in PvP.
Here is the problem. Generally, getting rated gear is a time commitment while getting unrated gear isn’t. Unrated gear and rated gear shouldn’t put you in the same place for PvE (for those that do want to do both styles of content).
Rated gear should be “gear is gear.” Unrated gear needs to be scaled down in PvE (or scaled up in PvP) but should be good enough to do normal raids and low level mythic keys (kind of where it is now).
Difference between Top Honor Gear and Top Rated PVP Gear…
TBC: 7
Shadowlands: 29
I guess I don’t see it that way. The difference between rated and unrated for me is literally that I can just jump right in to unrated stuff. Click queue and go. Rated requires finding a group, comp etc. I could spend just as much time per week playing rated if it wasn’t such a commitment. Time isn’t really the issue. Its just that I can’t commit time very often.
If they wanted to leave rated gear how it is, but make unrated gear scale up in pvp only, I would be fine with that too. I just want to play BGs I don’t care about raiding etc.
This playstyle needs to be accommodated. Right now, it isn’t. However, people who do rated need to be rewarded with more than what unrated gives. It just shouldn’t be rewarded with huge power gaps.
I really enjoy seeing these posts, god forbid gear is equalized in PvP again. I hope they all rage quit tbh. Feels real good.
YES change it. keep pvp seperate from pve. sounds liek this should help with certain one-shot classes getting rival and higher as soon as season starts then just riding it out with mythic raid ilvl gear to always be more viable than any other class/spec
