I was blindly following the icy veins/wowhead guide for blood dk and i felt like a squishy pos and died to like everything. I switched up my talents to more tanky and lost like 1k dps and now i feel invincible. I feel like these talent trees only care about dps and dont care about durability as a tank which is dumb imo.
you go to raider io and check what the top blood Dk are using.
For example with prot… Yes most of the trees rely on showing dps options but I tweaked mine afterwards to be a bit tankier for spell reflects/blocks and other stuff so it’s just whatever you feel comfortable using. It’s a baseline if anything.
I just do what works for me. I think people live in the echo chamber too much.
I generally advocate for using the guides for a little until you get a feel for things and then tweaking the suggested talents to more closely suit yourself. Guides get you in the ballpark. Rest is up to you.
Pretty much.
This is Dream’s build from Raiderio, the current Top Blood DK tank: BoPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACJJSkkIiIREJiECSiEJAAAAAAJSiDkIJNhIBAAEJJJBAAAA
Honestly the only difference between their build and my Blood DK’s is they grab Purgatory.
I think purgatory is a staple in high keys. I take it too…
Guides are for new players, they need some basic information to start.
Same for top players, they soak less often tank burster dmg due to the party’s perfect cc coordination, so they may not need improved VB nor 2 points into bloodthirst. But if you play with pugs, very high chance that you constantly eat tank bursters, thus, spending 2 points into improved n 2 into bloodthirst will help you live much better.
Ye I’m a wild and reckless player so i like to be very durable so i take all the durability talenrs like tomb stone red thirst 2x improved vamp blood
Ah makes sense, since I haven’t touched Mythic yet, so I haven’t felt the need for it over DPS talent.
Purgatory is nice–but not sure how valuable Heartrend or Tightening Grasp talents are
Same! When learning guides are fine, but sont be afraid to experiemnt and switch talents/builds when needed!
The new talent trees, combined with the plethora of content in the game means theres no way there will ever be a one size fits all build or playstyle for a class.
Guides offer a nice crash course on how to get your feet wet with a class. You learn about talent interactions and stat priorities, but yeah. Theyre just basic info. Offering a catch-all spec. A Blood DK who is a spread damage team fighter on an RBG team is not going to have the same frame of mind as a Mythic Raid tank.
Ye i find teh better the group im in teh less tanky i need to be because everything gets stunned and interupted and they kill it faster.
dotn forget to check up on your local class discord for more help and even log help. cause most of these issues are usually rotational
I dnt use purgation. I haven’t died once i don’t think since doing this new talent build and running stoneskin gargoyle rune. I use the 10% armour talent from bone stacks double red thirst double improved vamp blood. I feel like a absolute juggernaut doing +14s and I’m only 382 gear lvl. Sometimes its hard to hold agro aoe if like a 400 demon hunter is targeting something you arent but you just death grip it or taunt it.
Oh Finally was able to get my real char on here idk why it wasnt letting me use anything but my tbc classic char lmfao. I think you can check my talents if you click on me?
Dks have weak initiave agro without DRW and tombstone. It’s always better to have a rogue or a hunter in the party. They provide good cc, dmg, ultilities om top of threat funnel
Heartrend’s main positive is that it unlocks purgatory for a single point if you’re not picking Grasp already. Tightening Grasp can work really well if you you use it with Abomination Limb and a big damage trinket. 5% extra damage during your heavy burst window is a lot of damage, and the debuff works on bosses, too. That said, only worth it if you both already have grasp and you want purgatory anyway, not worth specing into grasp just for it.
Then there’s stuff like Bloodshot, which, while not as strong as the tooltip suggests, is still over 7% gain overall, at least on my logs.
I find myself constantly switching talents around depending on dungeon/boss/key, definitely not very good to have a general-use guide. Maybe icy-veins could instead make a guide of “these are the tax talents that you should have every single time, and here are the nodes we recommend for the other points” rather than “here. build. complete.”.
Yeah like i have my poison on them and still teh dh doing like 5x my dps will pull off me. Funniest one was teh secomd these mobs enraged the war used all his cds and pulled off me and got slapped
