Does Blizzard want us to change mains occasionally?

Theres no way that Blizzard doesnt know that

  1. Paladin is one ofnthe top 3 most played classes.
  2. All palaldin specs are bad.

I can only conclude they want us to change mains occasionally. Afaik hunters arent faring much better.

So, let me see if I get this right.

  • You think Blizzard intentionally wants Paladins to be bad.
  • You think they do so in order for you to switch main for some reason?

I mean. I get that when you think your spec is in a bad state you want to voice that in the forums, I’ve done the same about Mistweaver monks in Shadowlands.

But let’s try to look at it from another angle, shall we?

Let’s assume for a minute that Blizzard does want to make you feel bad playing your spec. What would be the consequences for that?

  • Some players would change their spec. What does Blizzard accomplishes with that?
  • Some players might leave the game. Blizzard loses money.

It seems to me that the logic that they want to screw your class in particular would be a very bad move from them.

In truth, I don’t think Blizzard does enough to encourage maintaining multiple characters in combination with doing too much to encourage you to play one character such as Legion AP grinds.

I still haven’t done all of the Legion Class Order Halls because the game funneled me into one character during Legion. I played many alts during WoD but not many during Legion because of the long grinds.

That’s one aspect I look forward to with DF at least, the lack of grinds allowing the freedom to play alts. I just hope there’s enough to do on those alts to justify playing them. Farming the Storm Sigil mogs is something to do in the short term, but beyond that… hoping Mage Tower 2 comes along in 10.1 I suppose.

I will never stop ret Paladin.

It’s just a strong spec thematically speaking, you look cool you are cool, casting all your spells, wings fly out, you are justice!
Everyone looks to you for guidance and advice, everyone respects you

I don’t really play a paladin. I’ve made posts ont he forums about how painful it was getting a paladin to level cap.

Ask anyone who played Demo in WoD and were told “Don’t play Demonology”

It has precedent.

Hmm. I play all the classes. But I usually still play my favorite specs each expansion. I played demo when they nerfed it in WoD because it was fun.

If you focus on numbers all the time you won’t be happy. Since some odd spec is usually on top. Usually its mage or another pure dps class.

Best to just play what you find fun. If you play fotm, then be prepared to swap constantly. If not bear the brunt and play your suboptimal specs/bulds and just try to have fun. Since the game isn’t really even balanced around needing to be meta. Most of that is just player made peer pressure.

I’ve played all the classes, almost all the specs, and Paladin is definitely in my bottom tier. Just subjective. I don’t enjoy playing it much. I have two, but I’ll probably almost never play them.

All Blizzard wants…is for you to keep paying. Playing too, I suppose. Everything else…meh.

Blizzard doesn’t want you to change mains, once you’re dedicated to your character they know you’re in it for the long haul. Every now and then they’ll update the play style to entice other players into trying out the class / spec.

The only exception is survival hunters. Blizzard didn’t want players playing survival hunters. Or demonology warlocks. Blizz gave away meta for a reason. Also combat rogues, blizz didn’t like that people enjoyed combat rogues. Or shadow priests, Blizz hates shadow priests. You may have thought giving ret pallies Ashbringer meant that they wanted players to play ret, but you’d actually be mistaken because ret has a terrible play style, Blizz also hates ret.

But apart from those four specs, Blizz is fine with you playing whatevet. Give or take 32 other specs.

Multiple WoW devs have even come out and said that in the past. It is a well known fact that paladins are the class that gets nerfed more than any other class in the game.

No.

They do from time to time try to encourage or discourage certain class / specs.

If that happens to be your main, you could see it that way.

Paladins look to me in amazement wondering how I tank with just pure rage and a shield and no silly light powers.

Just built different.

Hey, if Blizzard trashes your spec, there’s a small change you’ll buy a boost for another class.

I know that’s total conspiracy theory garbage, but the state of some of these classes on the beta makes me wonder.

You’d think it’d take only an afternoon to fix some of the current talent trees. Not hard to get a few World First Raiders and PVPers to give feedback that can be actioned.

The 4 classes I play the most are Shaman, Warlock, Warrior, and a distant Priest. I do not play, nor do I like Paladin. Sometimes people postulate questions to get a deeper understanding of things from the feedback.

Also,

This is EXACTLY what I’m asking. Why did you say “no”?

I’m really hoping the 10.1 pass - having the launch out of the way - is comprehensive and thorough.

Well that’s unfortunate. I still stick to my paladin because she was my first character, but I find it kinda sad that they do that because paladins have one of the richest lores and a few of the most iconic characters in the Warcraft universe.

I really hope so. If these trees are here for the long-term, having them be in such poor states will only make players feel miserable for trying to play their preferred character combo.

Uh you got a source on that one? Cuz that sounds really sus.

Anyone who played Demo Warlock at the end of WoD and were told “We just don’t want you playing Demonology.” when asking for justification for the huge nerfs they had just eaten can tell you that, yes, sometimes this is the case.

Pally not my first. But has always been my favourite.

Paladin has been consistently middle of the pack for a long time. I wish monk had that kind of consistency. Instead, we are either really good or really bad but rarely average.

Paladin is a safe investment because Blizzard will never let them be at the bottom of the charts.

Might want to start wearing a helmet, for when you hit the floor dead with no rez in sight, cus “silly light powers”.
