they should have straight away. (this shouldn’t even happen but dumb adults…)
just to remind the dumb company and the higher ups…
someone died, … fkn murderers … knowing about it and not doing anything you dumbs, still holds you countable, do realize that…
Unfortunately, the scandal provided a “here’s what’s really wrong with WoW” narrative for the WoW decision-makers that had nothing to do with the actual design of the game, which was the real thing that burned away all the good will towards the company these last few years from their actual players, and the thing that actually needs to change to win players back.
2022 might be a year of them self-congratulating themselves on empowering women, while the game itself just slides further down a muddy slope. But at least the game will have turned “objectifying” portraits of women into bowls of fruit and removed the word “damsel” from quest chains, among a lot of other irrelevant nonsense.
Haven’t seen enough change in leadership of Devs as well as the story/writing team so I expect I won’t see many of the changes I’m hoping for to make a ‘good expansion’. They’re still too caught up in other things and of course Ion refusing to make changes because ‘things are in a good place where they are’ until it gets to patches into an expansion where they end up making the changes LATE as always and never exactly what was wanted. They find a ‘compromise’ and whatever that just leaves a sour taste.
I think - and I might very much be in the minority - that one of the biggest issues has been the slowly increasing amount of time sinks they’ve put into the game. I see it creating a number of drawbacks (both in fun and in player interaction).
My suspicion is that it’s designed to increase player time spent “doing things” when it just creates more frustration. Lots of folks will say “Well just don’t do it” - except those things are often blocking parts of the game people enjoy.
One of the reasons I stopped playing EQ (and started playing WoW) was the feeling (whether imaginary or real) of facing fewer “true” time sinks (think waiting to continue a quest with a mob on an 18 hour spawn timer). That’s true still in WoW (obviously some raid quests have limitations in overall time but you don’t have to sit there for weeks).
But assuming you’re a mount collector - killing thousands of creatures just to get an egg to drop which may or may not lead to your mount, that’s just frustrating. Getting random conduits (something they fixed somewhat) that don’t help your character - frustrating, not challenging or fun.
They can’t simply “give” players everything. I think most folks understand that. But I think they’ve struggled to find fun ways to earn things that don’t require extreme grinds. I don’t know if that will change. Even more so because there are plenty of players who have killed (as an example) Sha of Anger 500 times just to get the mount and don’t want folks to just simply get it after 20 now (though I do think that behavior comes partly due to the time sink mentality).
I probably will never earn a PVP mount - I just don’t enjoy PVP. Some of the models make me jealous - but I’m just not going to get it and that’s okay for me. I sure as heck won’t earn that spell tome mount. And I get that it might take RNG to get other things I want. But I’m not a huge fan of the extreme amount of RNG that some things require.
No, they changed it. It’s now a grind plus time gate over multiple weeks.
no, I wasn’t thinking of the playerbase in that comment but I am guessing the same applies can you change what you think is fun in a game?
reading the rest of your theory gives me a headache though.
blizzard has said numerous times they make the game for themselves - I believe they are still doing that for the most part. They concentrate on what they find fun themselves and make throw a bone or two to the rest of the playerbase.
I’ll just say it bluntly…
If they don’t change, this game will die.
no jokes, no memes, no
Just simple as that, with how low Shadowlands has dropped the player count, another mess up like Shadowlands and Retail WoW is good as dead.
And Blizzard like it or not have genuinely no choice either, they either change fundamentally or they kill their longest running, cash cow. Tinfoil hat, maybe they do want this game to die. Who knows?
When the facts don’t add up there’s a missing value. That’s what quadraitic equations do, calculate the unknown value by 3 known related values. Using this kind of logic it just doesn’t add up to more subscribers. So it is safe to assume the unknown value is ‘why do they want to lose subscribers?’
I’ve surmised they would be guilty of fiscal malfeasance to just shut wow down, so instead to avoid liability to the stockholders, they are attempting to kill wow but not so anyone could prove in a court.
Nope. /10c
I do. I’ve seen a LOT of progress since a lot of firings and the heinous crap happening at Blizzard has stopped. One of the platitudes, “absolute power corrupts absolutely,” applies here.
They’ll fall back on the same methods of design philosophy they’ve been doing for the last 4 expansions and continue to double down that everything is fine while the house is burning down around them.
I’m pretty sure they deflated that ball somewhere around BfA.
Their investors are dumb if they actually believe that or just aren’t paying attention so long as the money is flowing in, possibly both.
I still suspect she was likely part of some of the problems in regards to the “diversity” nonsense that was happening in the company. Her leaving was both a boon to the company for that reason and also, a loss in other aspects related to the harassment lawsuit. Just the way it was worded by Kotick in regards to her leaving, it sounded like polite corporate speak of “good riddance”.
This is part of why i don’t fully trust that community council they implemented. They’ll likely start adjusting the game to some of the things suggested there but with their own personal hot take to butcher said feedback and then say “this is what you wanted” just so they can continue to blame the players.
The dev team will need some fresh perspectives and they will need to be willing to listen to those fresh perspectives before I would expect any significant changes. We’ll see if the community council will make a difference in that regard or not once everyone’s back from the hoilday break.
To be fair the customers have been pretty wrong about a lot of things in recent years.
a subject that a BLUE… should come in and reply.
sigh. lizzard badtainment, what a shi t company
From one, the same.
Yep. Its bleeding over to pvp bad now. as some days the wait for alliance can be horrible even.
Not good that. As when I sign up on alliance…I get the first 40 out the door. and that is taking too much time.
Horde player number 280? yeah keep on waiting dude. After my 40 picks ups…gratz. You are now 240 in the waiting list. Now waiting for the next 40 to take their sweet butt time to form up. then you can be number 200.
OPen scale instance…280 horde. Shotgun those edit: 3 matches. 3 matches of 40 on on 40 horde. and the 40 left wait for winners or more sign ups.
And the data is there to show this to be the way. Comp stomp a loved event. Sure its bots. Its pops up all the time however. Arathi till you jsut say I am done really. Maybe 5 minutes between matches. Its real nice that.
Nicer than waiting 30+ minute to see a…Wintergrasp. A losing wintergrasp to add salt to that wound sometimes.
And its not grrr I lsot. Its grrr I got a loss that I then wait another 30 to try for my pvp daily. I can take the loss. its the fact a pvp daily can take 3 hours to clear since worst case its 1 match an hour.
Get 0/3 for a win…no daily for you.
Unlikely. Blizzard knows what’s wrong with their game, at least with how the community perceives it. They’ve known for years now. It’s how we got the laundry list of player asks in 9.1.5.
IMO they need real investments to make 10.0 worth returning for many players. Given the trend, I don’t see that happening.
Oh yeah fully expect any ideas the player members come up with especially any good ideas that Blizz might actually go " you know that sounds like a good idea" to be monkey pawed .
Hopefully his statement is different. Blizzard has already acknowledged the massive faction imbalance. Alliance pvp group finder may as well not even exist, at certain times there is more advertisements than players. Mythic + on Horde has twice as many groups. Only reason I am playing cause I don’t mind being an orc monk or orc rogue for pvp. But I hate, and I mean absolutely hate everything about the Horde. Pve I am strictly Alliance. If they want to keep Alliance players this is what needs the most attention along with a pvp gearing re work.
In defense in those expansions we had an estimated 6 times more players?
