Does anyone even play this game for funr anymore?

And sadly that crusty old tale has been repeated again and again and again on podcasts and in videos and on forums over the years - and directly led to the FOMO design we’ve suffered since the end of MoP and its Garry heirlooms and mount.

And yet I have never, ever in a decade of playing been able to find ANYONE who says that they used to stand in Stormwind or Orgrimmar, gazing adoringly at another characters’ gear, saying “if only I could have that… I need to push myself to be better.”

It’s a convenient myth that’s been pushed out over the past eight years to justify game design based around FOMO.

Prior to this, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street had outright said they wouldn’t be removing stuff from the game any more, because removing the meta mounts from WotLK Naxx was considered a mistake.

Maybe you are. Whether you are or not (to quote Mr. Frodo Baggins) "Don’t take names to yourself . . . “It’s unwise , whether they are true or false.”

As for me, regarding your previous question, I don’t do the whole epeen thing.

No, you mostly see that in Goldshire Moonguard…

I come at it from such a different angle, it never meant anything to me.

I was playing EQ and got my wife involved about the time I hit level 10 (back when that meant something). I joined a guild. Asked her if she wanted to come over and join too.

In less than 2 days, a guilty (after finding out she was a RL female - even if 30) made a her a full set of Armor of Ro - think full Dungeon Set / maybe Tier 1 that any level can wear. I was wearing mostly greys.

Because of that, I never saw full gear as an achievement, especially later after I saw how cliquey guilds were. All you had to do was be in the clique and you were invited.

Totally agree 100%. The only interesting thing to stop and look at in Vanilla were those 1 or 2 people with Thunderfury or Rag’s hammer. Those “leet” raiders with the over-inflated egos were self-deluded into thinking they were admired by the masses for their epics, it’s sad, really.

you can have fun while also try to do content just not as sweaty as most of the mentality that they are trying to promote for a while now… it really matters with the people/guild you hangout with…

I do low keys with friends for fun. Does that count?

People that play for fun aren’t on the forums.

We are jaded here.

Fun.

We’re not all hamsters on a wheel. A guy that spends all his time on a video game isn’t tough in real life so I tend to find it hilarious whenever they try to be. Compensating for something.

Put some ‘fun’ back into the game and I’ll play it all day long for fun.
Im having a blast playing the last two weeks.
but then, I am just leveling numerous new characters up to 49 and locking them for fun, nothing really done in SLs except got flight and quit…other than gearing up one boosted vulpera warlock to about 105 ilvl.

Yesterday on my birthday I got 1k quests completed achievement.
