Does anyone consider leveling to be engaging anymore?

It used to be that leveling was the fundamental essence of World of Warcraft. You would spend months getting to level 60 but you wouldn't mind because it was the entire game. End game content was just the cherry on top!

Every time you logged in you could work on upgrading your character. The point I'm making is that there was ALWAYS something to look forward too almost immediately or at least within a few levels.

The next talent point was always just around the corner. Your next spell skill level was available in just a few levels. You can pwn some lower levels in BG's once you're the highest level in your bracket. You might get a green piece of loot or even a blue that was an upgrade that actually made you feel stronger while questing. You could work towards saving up gold for your mount. Etc etc etc.

Nowadays leveling seems like turning your brain off and grinding out the levels while ignoring all quest text and just following the markers on your map like a braindead zombie.

We do it as fast as possible so you can get to max level and finally 'start to play the real game'. It doesn't matter what level you are because as long as you're not 120, you're missing out.

We might as well just remove level 60-119 because nearly all classes get no new spells, only a few talents that are almost all passive damage increases anyways, and feel the exact same as the previous level since monsters scale to your current level.

Ask yourself honestly, when was the last time you had as much fun leveling a character as playing any other AAA game title? That should be the standard. It used to be, at least...
Just depends on what type of person you are.

I'm an altoholic, and I just can't grow attached to any chars I boost. So I level em, and despite the road having some slow, grindy moments I always take the experience as a moment to truly love my char.

It's always worth it for me, and I can't wait for the leveling buff as well.
What frustrates me about the leveling buff is that it's simply a bandaid fix to how the game has devolved.

People don't like to level anymore, so Blizzard makes it take less time instead of making it more fun.

I can't honestly put it any simpler than that. They look at their statistics and see how few people are leveling these days and they assume its because it's too difficult/time consuming, not too boring.
No. Leveling a rogue right now. It is lvl 101 and since lvl 50, or about 25+ hours of gameplay, I have gained one new ability of any real rotational impact. On top of that, my character is as exactly powerful after those 25 hours. My attacks all do the same percentage damage to the target at 100 as they did at 50.
The game itself isn't engaging anymore. I've had more fun playing vanilla than retail WoW.
Not really, no

not enough new abilities while leveling, no incentives for people with lots of alts so the story becomes repetitive as hell, world feels disconnected and dead before max level
What annoys me about levelling is having to do quests that require you to do three separate things that take half an hour and then turning them in only to have to go back and do something else in the location you were just in for the follow up quests. The back and forth becomes very boring - particularly if the distance or terrain is unforgiving. Anything that requires you to collect or kill more than 10 things for one quest makes me want to go do something else.

Going forward, I want to see fewer quests but with more depth and larger experience rewards.
I have no problems leveling a alt especially with scaling now and the ability to avoid certain expansions. Your problem seems personal.
Leveling is stale and boring. NExt expansion dont have us Level, but instead acquire new talents and abilities , then "level" Those abilities
I still enjoy it and the scaling changes make it even better. Last night I was on my 58 DK and questing with a 70 Mage, both of us doing the same quest and getting exp for it.

I'd be okay with that. The azerite necklace was an absolute garbage method of progressing at max level.

Perhaps if they ignored leveling altogether and invested all that time into forming a system to progress your character through vast class quest lines and max level zones it would be a lot better.

That way you can go at your own pace and experience either everything or the bare minimum, depending on how you enjoy playing.
14 years of killing and fetching quests to level just loses its appeal after a while.
Leveling in the Barrens on the classic demo is engaging and fun.
(I can’t freaking wait til next summer.)

But I very much enjoyed WoD and BFA’s leveling. I’m doing BFA a second time around now and definitely not sick of it yet, which is very rare. Original Vanilla, WoD and BFA zones were the only zones I’ve enjoyed leveling through multiple times.

1-110 is a nightmare, though. It’s not that it’s bad (well, Outland is horrendous), but I’ve done it countless times. I really hate doing it over and over. Freaking heritage armor needs to be earned another way. It’s so disgusting that we have to level up new characters to get it. Blah.
Engaging yes, since scaling it's very fun.

Rewarding.... Not so much. Way to much space between abilities and talents.
I've done it twice since the leveling changes in 7.3.5. Personally, I didn't mind it at all. Engaging, definitely. Rewarding? Mostly. 60-80 feels like climbing a mountain while the other level ranges feel like a smooth ride down the highway.
Yes, I enjoy leveling, and I find it engaging. There's room for improvement, certainly, and while the upcoming nerfs to the XP requirements look promising, there needs to be more done. Still, I'm having fun leveling toons right now. Today, I've done bits on a dwarf monk, a belf mage, and a whole string of humans (monk, lock, hunter, priest, and pally).

P.S. No, I don't have a life. Now be quiet. Next up, after I go fix some supper, is a velf mage.
I enjoy leveling as I enjoy the older zones a lot more than the current ones. Once I hit WoD... meh. I start losing interest.
Stalled out can’t handle it right now. Wish they would have left the heirlooms alone for those who chose to use them. I didn’t mind one shotting mobs, 13 years of leveling why punish me now?
In my eyes leveling is only engaging or fun that first time. After that its the same thing at nauseum.

The faster i can get theough it to the current level cap the better. The content that really matters is only at level cap.

By its nature mmos are not truly immersive.
It's just a means to an end at the moment.

Never played classic, never really had much interest in it either.

But now I'm really looking forward to giving it a red hot crack.

Only thing that is really grabbing my attention re: levelling.
