If there are paid commentators, they do a horrible job and steering the conversation.

That’s the type I was thinking of. A lot of the ones that are emotional about it seem like they love the game and are afraid negative opinions will snow ball into them loosing their favorite game.

That’s not their job. It’s their job to supplant positive in general negative threads. Perhaps even take a few jabs at the dissenters. They bring balance, but yeah, it’s painfully obvious at times. At least it’s not paid trolls kind of bad, usually happens around every 4 years.

It’s pretty far-fetched to me, but if people sleep better at night thinking that people only disagree with them because they are paid to disagree then so be it.

Do you think people constantly posting hate threads and comments day in and out are paid commenters too then? If you’re going to assume one case is true, you should assume the other is just as true.

You could even argue it’s more likely to astroturf to undermine something than to to try to “bolster” morale as it were. It’s far easier to tear down than it is to build up after all.

Op - could be some folks don’t follow the negative crowd, and they really enjoy the game.

Almost always - the simple answer is the real answer.

It wouldn’t work though. If the game is healthy no one would listen like with the example of GW2 and if the game is not healthy there would be no reason to pay someone to criticize it because the players are already doing that.

I am generally a Pro-WoW poster. If anyone knows if this paid commenter position please let me know where I can go get paid for my regular posting of positive WoW comments.
