Personally i think that will come, and that will be after the next expansion that i think that will be the last WoW expansion. The Legion is technically defeated with Sargeras jailed, and the other cosmic treath (the Old Gods) will be probably defeated in the next expansion. That said, with the universe of Azeroth under control, following this story will not be a good idea, and a WoW 2 will come with a reboot in the WoW story, the first reboot of WoW universe.
Unless it’s a engine update of the current game and everything carries over, probably not.
People are heavily invested in the characters that could potentially be 15(!) years old, scrapping all that to start fresh is a hard sell, especially for a sequel to the biggest MMO out their.
Best bet for something new related to Warcraft is the game ending and them making a WC4 set after the end of WoW, and that is a long ways off, if ever.
No, WoW 2 will be a reboot or should I say a fusion of classic wow systems and improvements made in current retail.
You’re going to see quite a few classic systems that people love brought into retail or made similar to classic. When that happens and we have a blending of QoL and classic gameplay you will be playing WoW 9.0.
They’ve been updating spell effects, environments, and everything to keep the visual style relevant. You can walk into zangramarsh and see updated visuals in parts.
People need to stop with the WoW 2 nonsense. MMO sequels made sense ten years ago when the genre was still largely relevant. Nowadays developing a whole new MMO is too much of an investment for an audience that has long since lost its tolerance for monthly subscriptions, won’t do microtransactions, and really doesn’t have the time for another long grind.
I was thinking about that issue, and i thought that may be Blizzard could implement a “progress transfer” for every character, where you could transfer to WoW 2 your favorites characters with his name and the things you collected (mounts, appareances, toys, pets, ans so no). I know, is a wild idea, but who knows.
I don’t think there will be a WOW2. Blizzard has repeatedly stated in interviews that they do not want to tackle the MMORPG market anymore. This is one of the reasons they scrapped Titan and created Overwatch from its ashes.
Besides what incentive is there to make a WOW2? To get $60-100 off of box sales? They get that with expansions now. They can always create new bad guys for new expansions.
Yes, this is an MMORPG. They don’t want to run or build MMORPGs anymore. Why would they build a WOW2? There is no perceived benefit to them in order to do so.
This, and even then there’d be a significant chunk that wouldn’t stand for it, as they’d feel like “having” to switch over.
About Warcraft 4, I have an idea that might not be possible. If swtor can have all these classes with different voicelines for each gender, perhaps Warcraft 4 can feature our characters as the main heroes in the campaign.
Blah blah blah people loving their old formula… being scared of withdrawal that something new happens.
Honestly I’d love for a proper WoW 2 to happen if Ion isn’t in charge and the rest of the team that did BFA. I’d keep the art team and music people though, big respect to them.
I think it will happen if Azeroth is either awakened or corrupted. WoW2 will happen after an apocalypse imo. At least I think it would be a good setup for it to happen.
WoW 2 as a brand new game where everyone has to start from scratch, NO.
WoW 2 as an engine update, YES!
Current game’s graphics are ancient compared to other games. An update is way overdue. It’s going to be nice to players who own better hardware and also for game devs, a new engine will allow them to do many things they can’t do right now with the old engine.
A new and updated engine would allow an significant increase in the amount of content available. It would open so many doors, allowing so many new forms of mechanics, gameplay, and much more.
The issue is that it comes with a lot of risk and would also take away from the development of curent expansions.
A new engine essentialy means a new game which I believe is a risk a game company wouldnt want to take when they have had the most popular mmo for the last 15 years.
Like many people said, a possibility would to create not a wow 2 but simply somehow make a " new and improved" wow while keeping all the characters and data from old game.
That’s not true. The engine can be updated/upgraded without replacing it. As they’ve been doing for 15 years. Take a look at what the game can do now versus what it could do when it first launched.
