The time is the biggest issue with it. If they just stopped with the stupid time gate, it wouldn’t be so bad. Let people work towards it and get it whenever they get it, don’t make people wait to even have the option to work on some stupid Part 2.
No. As Blizzard learned over the course of 19 days in May 2015 removing flight is not an economically feasible option.
So it is not the case that it’s either Pathfinger or no flight.
“No flight” is not on the table.
Besides, Blizzard makes $$ selling flying mounts.
Pathfinger will be around as long as players put up with it. The plan may be to make it so unpleasant (and of course, to remove or wreck flying just after players have earned PF --7.3 “nofly” zone; 8.3 flying mounts slowed to RP walking speed) that eventually players just stop doing Pathfinger and the devs can show the suits that “no one wants to fly.”
But, long before that happens, I think there will just be another massive sub loss, making the entire issue completely academic.
What is happening to what arguably was the greatest MMO ever, is tragic, but it is happening.
Eventually, legacy servers may provide the bulk Blizzard’s WoW revenue streams.
(I would like a max level/flight license as an alternative to PF)
You can tell he even knows what the response is going to be before he replies. He talks about compromise, but you can tell by his body language that he does not want to even talk about it because he friggen knows he is on the losing side of this.
It is going to go eventually, but I think Blizzard will dig their heels in for a few more expansions until either the subs are very low, or there is so much negative feedback that they have to deal with it.
I know I personally am not spending months on something like that again. Its too friggen boring. Unless they make it completely invisible in the background as a rewards for just playing them game (and no its NOT like that at the moment, sorry fanboys), I will not do it. Thats me personally though, its up to the rest of the playerbase if they want to deal with this trash type of progression blocking.
well given his former profession as a lawyer you know they hate the word compromise and they really cant stand losing but make no mistake as long as he is in charge of the dev team he will drag this out as long as possible
hes going to try and win by attrition until theres no one left that wants to fly
Eh, that “booing” is really overblown. This seemed like a pretty playful moment. Strong opinions about flying exist and it seems like something people, at blizzcon at least, could have a laugh about.
is it possible that any booing at all by the super nerds that pay way too much to be at blizzcon be stated as overblown? other than mobile diablo, this was the biggest fuss made by blizzards most exalted geekdom.
Lol, face it pathfinder WILL go away eventually. Just depends how long the rabid fanboys want to drown out the discontent before they eventually give up. Its starting to feel like Sparta just before it fell.
People are going to see what they want, I suppose. I see the crowd shot and people booing while laughing. It didn’t feel like an angry moment like what diablo immortal became.
I mean, you can say that if its what floats your boat. I can predict rain every day and hang a mission accomplished banner every time it sprinkles. It doesn’t make me clairvoyant.
That, and having two factions to grind rep with for part 2 in BFA is what made it suck in this expansion. Would like to have the goldsink option along with pathfinder for flight. If you are the 24/7 videogame addict that gets your rocks off by grinding faction rep then there is pathfinder. For the folks who despise grinding rep with irrelevant factions that have nothing to do with flight, then let them buy flight with gold.
Yeah, see though, if the majority of people wanted it remove than it might be removed. The vocal minority on the forums does not count as a majority. That’s like, what, a thousand people at most? Don’t be delusional.
But aside from that, I like and appreciate that flying isn’t available right away. :]
Yes, Ion is not a very good liar. Both his voice and body language betrays him. He knows Pathfinger is not popular but darn it, he and his team has a vision! (See mud-whimping earlier this thread and others or google it).
I have a feeling players are not going to like how flight is handled in SL with the level squish. I wouldn’t be surprised if players find that many of their toons who currently can fly in Azeroth and elsewhere (except “current expansion”) won’t be able to. Do I have any factual basis for this assumption?
Not directly.
But dms’ and Blizzard employees have been out in droves very recently, trying to challenge the well-settled fact that the player exodus of May 2015 caused Blizzard to realize that a flightless world could never, ever happen, if the company wanted to continue enjoying income from WoW.
It is probably troublesome to Blizzard to know that in fact, the real power lies with their paying customers. The company probably regards the 19 day reversal in policy as a bad precedent and is concerned that another similar wave may be headed their way.
Yep, it’s speculation on my part. But they’re going to “squish” 50% of existing levels down to fit a 1-60 level cap. The highest level/rank/speed of player mounted travel will have to be available at 40, in order to ensure that all toons that are now 80+ will be able to fly at epic speeds in all areas of the game in which they currently can fly.
So ground mounts at level 5?
That, and the worm antics in 8.3 suggest that the devs’ hostility toward player flight has not only maintained, but has now reached epic levels and that they are now running toward calamity.
i believe you have that turned around, but it is getting closer to the truth. a good portion of those many millions that have left were likely people exasperated with ion’s crusade on flight, and the 10½ month wait on it.
as has been said a lot, i think many could live with just pathfinder 1 as it is now. it’s the punitive part of pathfinder many feel upset with.
