I played classic. I noticed no improved sense of community - at all. I played vanilla and found the community to be as toxic as it currently is. People didn’t rely on the community more to get stuff done - they relied on guilds. People still rely on guilds in retail - there are just options to be able to make things easier for you to do when guildies aren’t available.
And flying has made the game better - hands down. World PvP shouldn’t even be a thing. It’s rarely PvP and mostly ganking. PvP should be instanced.
There is a movement for Classic+ but wouldn’t it be better and easier for Blizzard to just make a live WoW in 9.0 that can keep those Classic sub’s with new content? Eventually, no matter how slow they release phases Classic will dry up. They could try to keep them by adding content to Classic, but that would involve developing 2 mmo’s.
The current version of WoW is mostly acceptable to raiders and a small handful of others. Its not doing well outside of raids, the worst it ever has in fact. On the other hand people play Classic mostly for everything that happens outside of instances. 2 mmo’s that have some popularity for reasons that don’t have much overlap! Its almost like you could take the best parts of each of these 2 things and do even better!
Yeah but no human hunters in Classic, no new content in Classic.
It’s a great game, but it’s stuck in an era, Classic has the soul of Warcraft and retail has the… Content? So yeah, I wish they would inspire more on Classic.
Blizzard painted themselves in a corner with retail that they didnt trust their product enough to keep players subbed so they had to arbitrarily insert all these time sinks to make sure players stayed, a real catch 22
It’s going to progress throughout the Vanilla timeline over the next ~2 years, then most likely transition into BC, and then 2 years after that, transition into WotLK. I don’t know why this ‘Classic will never get new content’ meme still exists.
No new content indeed, it’s going to progress through seen content, and once it hits WotLK then what? What people like me want is basically a what if version I guess, Classic + if you may.
If I have to auto attack 1 or 2 enemies at a time for hours on end with the only challenge being stick with mobs similar level and dont pull more than 3 just so classic zealots can feel like levelling is “difficult” again then that’s a hard pass from me.
Classic isn’t harder due to the abilties. Combat is more meaningful. If you pull more than two enemies, you will probably be killed. You have to use your defensive skills regularly. In modern wow you can pull dozens of mobs while questing and not care. You won’t even need to use a healing spell most of the time.
Thus, classic has a more dangerous world than Retail WoW.
No, it is a different audience. When classic started, I like a ton of other retail players came over to play it. Out of all the retail players I know, only 5 of us are still playing. The rest said they did not like the slow pace, the grind, and they really didn’t like the lack of flightpaths.
