I also want to say that if I’m remembering it correctly, MoP (end of Siege of Orgrimmar) said that Gilneas would be given back to the Gilneans yet it wasn’t touched upon until the DF questline that involved kicking out the Scarlet Crusade. It felt oddly out of place for something that should have already been a done deal.
The cool werewolf content was only in the Vanilla-era Duskwood and Silverpine Forest with Wrath being the end of this mystical monster appeal that the Worgen got stripped of once Cata dropped.
Gilneas Worgen could have worked if Blizzard focused on the “split kingdom” angle. The unafflicted Gilneans fear the Worgen-afflicted Gilneans whereas the afflicted Gilneans either worked to cure themselves of their affliction or to embrace their “gifts”
They weren’t though. They literally retconned modern Draenei to be so far removed from the Broken because Blizzard feared how players would react to playable Broken. (While also being unsure as to how armor would look on a playable Broken model). When TBC was announced the lore nerds ERUPTED in anger over how Blizzard was introducing Draenei and the Blood Elves. I still remember threads talking about how it was a mistake to allow for “playable Manari…aka Sargeras’s minions”
Personally I’d split them on class grounds. The well to do Gilneans in fancy clothes with fancier umbrellas regard it as a vile curse to be done away with. The rural Harvest Witchy Gilneans actively embrace it. And then you’ve the metropolitan working class in the middle who note that while being a werewolf has it’s disadvantages, being able to turn into a 7ft tall beastman is actually super useful if you have to heave coal or carry lumber.
Do you know how the pyramids were built? With great slave armies dragging stones across fields of logs.
Do you know who the Alliance are to us in that equation? The slaves? No, you’re the logs.
Now go and die violently so the good people of Silvermoon can party in peace. This crisis caused the champagne at Satheril’s to be served merely chilled, not cold. If only more Alliance had been gruesomely killed a tragedy like this might have been avoided.
Personally I am enjoying most of it. The Voidstorm has been my favorite zone so far and mostly because it makes the Void Elves an actual people! They are basically a bunch of nerds who have a chip on their shoulder.
As for the family drama, like this is a thing for the Windrunner/Turaylon since the Beyond the Dark Portal novel. I am not too happy with Turalyon getting Luke Skywalkered by his kid but I don’t think he will end this expansion as a villain.
Not what I saw from say the quest with Herion/Astre and Sedona which end with me getting a letter about how they shared their grief for a man they both lost and are learning to co exist because of it.
The sooner the faction barrier dies its well deserved death, the better.
Turalyon to Anduin - “The Light, yes. We should allow it to guide us, but not control us. We must think and feel for ourselves.”
Turalyon to Lor’themar - “All you need to do is have Faith in the Light, Regent.” (In the context of Lor’themar agonizing about a Void invasion in his backyard).
Lor’themar to Turalyon - “We have to save the civilians!”
Turalyon to Lor’themar - “No we don’t. What do you keep in your hookah?”
Turalyon defeats Orgrim Doomhammer - “I will not kill you. You will be made to stand trial and face justice for your deeds!”
Turalyon defeats Zul’Jan - “I am High Exarch Turalyon. You insulted my Light. Prepare to die.”
Turalyon to Alleria - “Sure, you wield the Void, which is antithetical to my faith, but you’re still you, and I will always love you.”
Turalyon to Faol - “Sure, you’ve been raised into undeath, but after five minutes of talking, I know you’re Alonsus Faol, not some abomination. Thank you for opening my eyes to the tragic fate of your people.”
Turalyon to Umbric - “Ugh, void-lover. Get the heck out of here and away from the Sunwell you useless freak! Wash the void out of your hair before you come near me or my paladins again. Someone get me some holy hand sanitizer.”
Fine by me as long we blame all of his uncharacteristic behavior on the Sunwell being super charged with light. Quick and easy redemption for Turaylon.
When all of Turalyon’s actions are written off as, ‘The Light Made Him Do It,’ it robs the character of all agency and consequence, of any chance at growth. Maybe a 1,000 year old ultra Paladin doesn’t need much growth in a setting like Warcraft, but if he’s a main character, then its expected that he’ll grow.
In fairness it is bad. But we had Sylvanas who was ruthless but pragmatic and seemed to if not care about at least greatly value the Forsaken as a resource.
And she became Super Hitler, the Hitler that FLIES!
And her great reasoning for this betrayal and global massacre was that there was a sad lava eel that made completely unaddressed points about how the afterlife separates families.
Which would be at least a concern, albeit a presumably not immediate one, for a race that lives for millenia. But having it be the primary concern for the undead is truly baffling.
Sylvie the brother you’re committing Unlimited Genocide for is a sad ghost hanging out in your childhood living room. Just use Dark Magic to make him a real boy. I saw what you did for Nathanos this seems within your abilities. Didn’t have to murder Forsaken civilians and declare World War Death for the Dull Devil. Completely unnecessary.
I would like to think it is not 100% the light’s fault but it certainly make it so he couldn’t be blame for his actions. Having said that it is clear he has somewhat forgotten who he was/who he wants to be, a protector, and I am willing to bet he will end up taking up his shield later during this expansion.
I don’t think that is actually what is happening. In fact, quite the opposite. The Arator quest chain made it clear that the light responds to people. It compared the Argents to the Scarlets, with both using the light. They seem to be telling a story that the Light is responding to what is inside. And even Turalyon basically says the problem is him, not the light. And Arator’s chain clearly tells us that Turalyon’s problems stem from his guilt and loss with the death of Lothar. The whole rejecting the reforged shield makes it very clear the problems are Turalyon’s, not the light forcing him into anything. Turalyon doesn’t even go light zealot after Alleria loses control to the void, which is THE moment you would expect the light to turn him into a ‘light zealot’ if that was the story they were telling.
The Light is not driving Turalyon, his personal demons are.
PvP has been optional from day one you pea brained gibbon.
The only thing you’re advocating for is less content. You’re a walking insult to the Alliance. The Blues used to have teeth. I was actively afraid of guilds like Clan Battlehamer because I knew those dwarves fought without mercy.
And here you are on your hands and knees just begging to be let into a Sin’Dorei hookah lounge. Pathetic. Sickening even.
its even why have a offscreen epace that never actulyl matters just so varians decliration fo war could be forgotten in favour of garrosh being oone to start the faction conflict
If blizzard had care dand had intrest into that kinda stuff
worgen wouldbve been great to interatc with pandaren and learna thign or 2 abotu controlling emotions since pandaren had to do it far longer due the sha
could be becuase instead of wod, wouldve been on azeroth next expac and garrosh creating a new horde from all the monster races of azeroth (gnols/kobolds/centaur whatever else that be otehriwse cannopn fodder for questing zones)
And even if the factions desolve pvp will still continue to exist and be optional, your faction addled brain should understand that.
Content is a pie, it doesn’t become bigger just because they are two faction, it just becomes split and you can’t access it unless you play the other factions. I am pretty sure if we were to compare the number of quests in TWW or DF and Midnight, they will be the same as BfA launch. I was starving for quests when I did BfA.
Heh, you are talking to the number Alliance fan boy in this forum and I know what the Alliance is what it should be. It will kick the Horde’s teeth anytime it tries to stir up dirt, but it also has no qualms about it as long as it leave it alone. Varian tried for peace, TWICE, only for it to be ruined by Void aligned forces.
There is a reason I wanted to kill that stupid Domanaar’s head to for what he was doing.
We literally got it already, and considering Silvermoon is home to a race of the Alliance, it was just as much ours as it ever was Horde.
You and Dread have been whining about kicking the Alliance out if since day one of Midnight. And Dread in particular threw a fit when “of Lordaeron” was a neutral title, much to his chagrin.
What is even weirder is that Gilneas was reclaimed as Alliance territory at some point during Silverpine questing (which is horde only). Of which the ending was clearly the following
Alliance can keep Gilneas
Lorna won’t become a forsaken
On the condition that
The Gilnean Liberation Front along with any Alliance forces do not enter Silverpine again
Darius agrees to these terms, which angers Ivar Bloodfang as he wanted the fighting to continue.
Then in patch 4.3 during the legendary rogue dagger campaign, the Gilneans living in the city were mind controlled by a Black Drakonid. You kill him on Wrathions orders.
But fast forward to the ending of Siege of Orgrimmar and Varian makes the comment that Gilneas is a blighted ruin. Gilneas went from Alliance controlled (and for a moment Black Dragonflight controlled) to a blighted ruin off screen for no reason.
It was clear that Blizzard had no idea what to do with Gilneas. They couldn’t make it an official alliance capital city without keeping the balance somehow.
The reason was obvious, they wanted actual content(ie a questline) that ultimately shows the Alliance reclaiming it and to actually update it so that the city was actually filled with NPCs again.
