DISCLAIMER: I want to be clear that I am in NO WAY AT ALL saying things are good for the Horde, or that the Horde are getting good writing at all, it sucks, it’s horrible. I have a lot of sympathy there, but it’s not a two way street in the slightest.
Why should I be grateful that Alliance characters (which now have and zero hostility to the Horde at all) get screen time when that screen time is used to character assassinated them lol.
Why should I cheer at Turalyon being on the screen when he’s going to just get turned into a blood thirsty insane zealot facist and then get humiliated? How is that any better than the character just being ignored lol. Why should I view Arator as an Alliance character I should be invested in when all of his writing has been after the faction war is dead and rotting in the ground. There’s no evidence he ever killed any Horde or engaged in any faction war conflict ever in his entire life, so why should I strongly view him as my team and see his screentime as a huge giant win for me?
I’m just trying to understand this. Because I feel like, where I can fully admit and sympathize with how bad Horde writing has been, Horde players feel as though Alliance players have won the writing lottery with Midnight.
I get that you’re not fond of Turalyon’s treatment, but if he were an equivalent Horde character he would have burned down a puppy orphanage by now while laughing about it. Instead he hit his son once and feels overwhelming regret for having done it. The extent to which ya’ll have exaggerated his bad treatment is really telling.
I happen to be an Alliance player, as Night Elves are part of the Alliance. But I have no investment in stories about the Light, as I have no characters of specs that use the Light. The Paladin order hall is the only one I have never done, for that matter.
There is nothing for me to find interest in one way or another about what direction they take Light using characters in, whether they are Alliance or not, which gives me nothing to invest into for the current storyline.
For that reason I have opted out of starting the main campaign and will wait for the hopeful level boost to skip it when Last Titan is available for pre-orders like the boost that came with the Midnight one.
He’s a man who’s been fighting non stop for over a thousand years and never once stopped to deal with all that emotional baggage and his trauma from Warcraft 2 and onward

Turaylon and Alleria are important lorewise. But they weren’t actually in the game for most of it’s lifetime. If you never played WC2, and the VAST majority of WoW players have not, you probably at most dimly knew who they were from the SW entry statues.
Then there’s Arator who’s actually been a character in game for nearly two decades. But in that time he made no impression on anyone, far as I can tell.
So we’ve three characters that nobody cares about all that much airing out their family drama in front of us. Which is just a baffling experience.
You shouldn’t be any more happy as an Alliance player getting a bad story forced down your throat story then I as a Horde player should be getting basically nothing.

I understand why the writers choose to follow a family drama as part of the main plot (it’s easy to understand compared to the cosmic horror elements for most people) but I wish they focused more on the Blood Elves and the Horde for this expansion and less on Alleria, Turalyon, and Arator. As an Alliance main I see focus on my faction that is both not very enjoyable to play through and baffling to me that it is even a focus. This should be the Horde’s moment where the Alliance is mentioned off screen dealing with other invasion points of the Void while the Horde charges at the brunt of the enemy to defend Silvermoon (alongside a few champions the Alliance generously lent). I like Turalyon and Alleria. I even like Arator (though he needs a better hair cut). But their story should not be the primary focus of this expansion in my opinion.
People acting like it’s Horde level of character assassination when the story goes out of its way to tell you Turalyon is only acting this way because of the Sunwell affecting him and amplifying his emotions and zealotry and not because that’s how he actually is wanting to behave. Complete with his instant regret when hurting Arator.
A Horde character would never be given so much grace and deniability for their actions.
100% chance he’s back to acting normal next time we see him since the whole Sunwell situation will be resolved.
Alliance players should be happy they aren’t treated like the Horde. Every story is going to have things you don’t like, but no involvement in the plot is worse. But should they be happy they are getting such dominant share of the story?
Hard to say. You could argue that having enough to be relevant would be sweet spot. But even that is going to have stuff you don’t like. I would expect that the amount of story they don’t like is probably some fairly predicable portion of the story you get.
For the record, I don’t think they doing Turalyon wrong. They story isn’t about him being bad or whatever. Its about what the light is doing to him. I would be happy to have Liadrin in his place.
You know, I was thinking that the problem was that the writers were all wrapped in Alliance lore and couldn’t envision anything else. Until Undermine. From dragging an obscure Alliance Goblin out to take center stage, to contriving a way to the Bildgewater Cartel neutral, they went out of their way to avoid Horde content.
The writers. For me at least, it’s a similar feeling for whichever writer has an obsession with keeping Lirath, a literal “who?” character that was only ever called out in a single line in a WC2 tie-in novel, relevant to any and all of the ongoing Windrunner family drama that has happened over the last several years.
Realistically? Yes and no. They were important ONCE and after WC2 they stopped being important. Their re-introduction in Legion was the penultimate character assassination without being an outwardly facing character assassination.
He was ignored/forgotten because Blizzard, at the time of TBC, wanted to have him be part of the questline to bring back his parents but that never materialized. And they either forgot that he existed entirely or just didn’t know what to do with him.
Turalyon is getting the comedy tv-show dad treatment. In that he’s used as a punching bag for everyone around him in order to help further their own “growth”
Night Elf fans would like to have a word. Blizzard’s treatment of the Night Elves and their refusal to expand the roster of characters for the Kaldorei outside of Tyrande and Malfurion made me drop them entirely. I loathe to learn what Blizzard’s plans are for the inevitable “Elune is actually X” reveal
