I was contemplating that on my drive home from lunch today, and considered my reactions to the thought I could log on when I got into the house. Once it would have been really pleasant, exciting even as there was so much I wanted to do. And I wondered, is it the same now?
The answer I got was yes, and no. The ‘yes’ part covered specific stuff I enjoyed. Things like:
- Housing. Its the feature I thank Blizz for putting in the game. With its faults and issues (and it has faults and issues) it is still the most individually creative activity ever put in this game. My main frustration is when they bug it to the point I can’t do it, or am frustrated when I do, or when they take actions that I really dislike (like no extra external appearances for the houses, except the ones they put up for sale in the shop…let me not go there, my friends, because steam starts coming out the nostrils and its not a good look.)
- Doing old content. There are still reasons to do that - for example, the higher levels of DF raids are now available to do solo. And tied to housing, there are things to do to get stuff for the house. Then there’s rare, unusual items that I still haven’t got my hands on that are out there whispering my name…come find me….
- Working on crafting and gathering. Although the current system is one I’m not in love with, there is some satisfaction if working through it to be able to make neat things for me, my alts and my guildies.
But current content doesn’t always please me. Mostly, it’s these 8 weeks patches that deliver popcorn. Popcorn content to me is something that has a slight passing interest but doesn’t provide any lasting satisfaction. Going after slight gear upgrades or some fairly useless item or currency among dozens of currencies (or so it feels) is ephemeral.
And the bugs, oh my fluffy pink haired gods, the bugs. A day barely goes by when someone isnt experiencing a technical issue or a quest issue or something just not working right. I’ve lived through many expansions and major patch releases, I understand bugs live in the framework to pop out at such times. But right now, its an epidemic.
So, do you all still enjoy some or all of the game? I guess you must to some degree as, like me, you are still here. I hope you find the fun in it because there is always hope. And as Varok Saurfang once said, you can’t kill hope. Or at least I hope not… (:

No, I am leaving for FFXIV. I honestly just enjoy the community and gameplay more, and aside from Dawntrail it has WoW beat narratively. The fights are better co-ordinated, telegraphed, and often have banging tracks to go along with them… I unno, it just seems like the better game at this point with a less toxic community, especially with less WoW players in it now. They all left for Dragonflight and never came back and it improved the overall mood greatly.

I wouldn’t be playing if I didn’t enjoy the game. I don’t see any other MMO that provides what I want.

Midnight brought back the enjoyment I once felt. Not everything is perfect and I have to get into end game as it is a goal. But delves, zones… going back to Eastern kingdoms , the vibe all is right up my alley.

Kinda? But not entirely.
Like, I enjoy raiding but I’ve basically been benched because of performance and im apparently now a terrible healer and terrible dps, so im debating on going to another game for a while but idk yet.
Ffxiv will be annoying as my account is EU and I cant pay for it with my US card…
yes an no, its a good time waster but it does send me to sleep occasionally.
I think that’s either just a me thing, an age thing, or both. work is also on a PC so that doesn’t help.

Kind of. Blizz has been making terrible, bizarre choices lately to do with casual PvP. PvP is already a badly designed, imbalanced joke as it is but they double down on the worst of it.

I’ve bene playing Diablo all week, I spent maybe 10 minutes in WoW this week. Even playing Diablo was for a few hours each day I played. I think a gaming break is coming up again.

Yes but I wish the game went a different direction in terms of game design. Retail WoW is fun every now and then if I want to do some Mythic+ with friends. But I don’t care about anything my character gets be it achievements from Mythic+ or PvP anymore. I kinda feel like that meme where the guy is looking outside the bus and there’s the dark and light side. Sometimes the game is good and when you get something it’s about 20 seconds of dopamine and fun but then you spend the next who knows how many hours chasing the 20 seconds.
Boomer classic andy take incoming but even with faster release cadence in TBC Anniversary I care much more for the items and stuff I obtain on that version of the game than anything in retail and that dopamine hit I get on retail is almost a permanent thing on Classic TBC or even was on MoP until that just died.
This isn’t to say retail is “bad” but because everything in retail FEELS like it’s "fast-paced” I just don’t feel like I get the time to care about literally anything Blizzard puts out.

Yes. When I don’t enjoy, I quit. I’ve quit WOW several times over the years and taken tons of time off.

He was quoting Delaryn Summermoon.
I do still enjoy wow fundamentally. I like pressing the buttons and seeing the flashing lights. I like that we have real progression for solo players now. But I do feel less than inspired by this current expansion. It’s hard to pin down, but it’s like a combination of having too many tasks in the agenda each week, while also just feeling underwhelmed and frustrated by the story. The idea of this being a long running trilogy no longer feels like a positive to me.

One Button Rotation has kept me playing a bit longer.
One of the best things Blizzard has released for the game in ages.

I’ll probably do the same once ffxiv Evercold is released in January.
Then return for next wow expansion.

Not really. I have a month left but I’m not even sure if I’ll finish it out. It’s just changed too much so it’s a completely different game. And I just find myself no longer being able to relate to any of it. I guess it’s cool for people that like it but it’s definitely not made for me any longer. I’ll probably just end up on some private server at some point.

To the people saying, “NO” why are you still playing the game if you don’t enjoy it? Don’t give me this non-sense about “sunk cost fallacy” either. Why play if you don’t enjoy it?

You ever driven by a nasty car wreck and I mean like really bad. People are dead and it’s too gross for television. But you just gotta look. WoW is that wreck.

I really like Midnight personally. I haven’t been this active before in an S1.

I have driven by a wreck seeing people die, I continued driving because it’s got nothing to do with me… I looked briefly, but there is no reason for me to stay there and gawk.
