Do you pick a class for character identity or class mechanics?

Both.

I don’t play specs on classes that I love because I don’t like how they play. And there are certain classes I just don’t want to play because I think the idea of them is kind of boring. /shrug

Class identity, Law bringer baby let’s go!

For me its fantasy first, but if the gameplay just doesnt mesh with my playstyle i cant keep playing. Mages for me are this. Ive just never been able to enjoy playing one in this game. Shamans and rogues are the same. Some people love em but i just dont enjoy the mechanics enough to force myself to keep playing a class i dont enjoy due to fantasy.

Hunters are a classic example. I used to hate hunters because you had to carry ammo, and find the perfect pets. Now pets are mostly the same accross the board of ferocity etc so i can grab pets i like the look of without needing to keep a spreadsheet of what pet does what etc, or run back to town for ammo. Also belf bow animation was crap. Modern bm hunters are fun and with the fix to bow animation, dark ranger custmization and transmoging i love my belf ranger and my fox hunter. The fantasy meshes with the mechanics.

I love how a druid plays. I do have several, but highest is only 52. I just get so tired of looking at a bears butt…i get bored and find im just playing them for the mechanics so stop and move on.

Like you rng’d your way into a completely random character? Interesting, very interesting

Fantasy, 100%. I was also sold on the support mechanics of the Shaman class that have been either entirely gutted, neutered, or dispersed among all the classes, but that hasn’t been relevant for well over a decade now.

A bit of both, I used to play rogue back in Wrath but haven’t really touched it in any expansions since.

With the additions of the new rogue races, and the new talents, I’d figured this was the best time to give it another go.

I also love the idea that I was among the “first” of a new line of Lightforged infiltrators.

I saw so many people making other rogues on the Vindicaar on that first day, it was glorious. I can only assume the same thing was going down in Mulgore.

And I was right. I love this character, and I love rogues right now, even if they are in need of a few buffs. (Looking at ya’ll Warlocks, give me some of that lol.)

My mane Keldar… Orc Shaman is the way to go!

I play everything. And I mostly play everything because I find it fun and I’m a bit of a meta slave. When something becomes busted, I pick it up. Because something is always busted.

I play hunter because I love being an archer with a throat-ripping animal companion. I play demon hunter because I saw someone else playing it and i liked the zoomies.

Warlock because of Aesthetic, Theme, and Design. Also sunken cost fallacy because I really got into warlock during Wrath because T8 looked dope.

When I play Warrior, it is because Execute kachunk sound make brain make happy chemical.

When I play Shadow Priest, it is because the audio and visual design to all of the abilities is great.

When I play Rogue, it is because I like having functioning legs.

When I play DK, it’s because the transmog.

When I play Druid, it’s because they are simply fun to mess with.

I could go on, but most of my 30-odd characters are one of those. Demon Hunter and Mage are the only classes I don’t really play because I don’t like elves and mages always felt boring in their gameplay to me.

Class mechanics. It’s important that they’re fun, and the character identity is whatever I make of it, not set in stone based on the class

For example, I’ve got 2 Fury Warriors (well, 5, but that’s not important right now): This one, and a Worgen. The Worgen is a very silent and calculated “warrior of the wilds” sort, with her transmog being the Ardenweald set. For this Pandaren, she’s friendly and social normally, until she gets into a fight and then her switch flips straight to “boisterous bloodcrazed berserker”

If you play a Pandaren monk, you’re basically playing Kung Fu Panda: The Video Game and you have to be okay with that on both fronts.

I play Warlock because this toon was actually a gift, I watched her get leveled, and one day she was given to me, and she’s been my main since. If she had been affliction or destruction I’d’ve been those but, she was Demonology and that has never changed, sure, Demo has been bottom barrel often (aside from SL, and the End of BFA) but, it’s fun.

class identity i try to build a character around what i want him to be. Void elfs who are not shadow priests only dabble in the void. I have leveled up my Spriest clothed her and given her mounts and head cannon to match who mastery over the void. Prior to the void elf i didnt bother with priests at all. Personally I think void elf should have been a class and a “race”

I just want something FUN to play that is EFFECTIVE.

I play about 10-12 different specs, and I main whichever one is strongest that particular tier.

Unfortunately both. I love the Greens but I can’t stand their mechanics.

I use to pick by fantasy now mostly it’s how it plays. If I don’t enjoy the rotation of a class I can’t main it. In a perfect world I’ll always be DK but few times over the years they made DK bit weird to play.

For me they are synergistic. If the mechanics do not match the fantasy of the class, I can’t play it. I don’t think the mechanics have matched the classes in a long time tbh. The pruning has removed things that allowed me to get caught up in certain classes. The DF trees kind of give a little back but they aren’t there yet. They need a lot more work imo.

I looooove class fantasy of the magic classes. And hunter is cool but idk. Only thing I like about hunters is Thor’idal and pets. I was trying to main a shadow priest for df cuz the class fantasy is amazing. But… I feel like imma get carpal tunnel lmao. :cloud_with_rain: :tea:
