Do you guys think Valeera is a traitor?

A void elf probably is a traitor. That’s a view I agree with. Even though that were outcasts they joined the Alliance. You could argue that Silvermoon throwing them out have the void elves all the right to forge their own path seperate from that of their home.

There is truth in this. She started that family while Silverwas in the Alliance so at the time it wasn’t even an issue for her or Veressa. Also Dalaran is no keone an Alliance city-state.

This is what I don’t think is fair. The thing is Alleria didn’t change, Silvermoon did. She fought in the Alliance when Silvermoon was a full member and when she left Azeroth that was still the case. She was gone for 20 years and had zero knowledge that they would switch sides and partner with their once enemies.

Had she been on Azeroth the whole time and chose to go with the Alliance over Silvermoon then I’d agree she’s a traitor. But because of what happened she’s in a unique position to chose. The Alliance isn’t what is was when she left and neither is Silvermoon, she’s not even a Blood Elf.

Though she came from the Alliance with a message Lor’themar didn’t regard her as a traitor but a daughter of Silvermoon. Sylvanas chose this unnecessary war and forcing her to back the horde by way of Silvermoon isn’t right. Technically speaking she’s remaining on the side she’s always been on even when the leader of Silvermoon disagreed.

That is fine. The problem for Alleria is that she isn’t willing to accept her former people’s choices. She still seems to think that Silvermoon will be part of the Alliance and wants to work towards that even though her people chose not to be. Further, while claiming she still sees Silvermoon as her home and people she goes to war against them.

Alleria is someone who seems to feel that her former people should change to be as she wants them to be. She now goes to war against them while still claiming a connection. She should chose if she wants Silvermoon as her home or the Alliance as her home rather than wanting SIlvermoon to change to suit her preferences.

If they’re telling the story properly, it should seem bad to Horde players and just fine to Alliance players.

That’s a fair point. I have to wonder if she would be less adamant about Silvermoon rejoining the Alliance if she didn’t that they were in talks to defect a few years ago?

In both Azeroth and our world, fairness is a quality that is in short supply.

There is no guarantee she does know that. Those talks were very secret. I wouldn’t be surprised if almost no one knew they ever took place.

Alleria, and hell the Windrunners in general, aren’t really people who are good at accepting things not being how they want them to be.

I think Anduin may have told her seeing as he tried to do the same.

Valeera isn’t a member of the Alliance. She has been seen with the Horde before, such as on the Horde gunship during the artefact finale, or acting as a messenger for Baine to Jaina.

She’s loyal to Anduin and would side with him above all else, but outside of that seems to be a free agent.

An established trope in Warcraft is that your racial leaders speak for you, commit for you, whether you personally sign up or not. The leaders of the orc clans drank demon blood, and sealed the bond and the effects for their people.

The leaders of the Blood Elves signed up for the Horde… That bound every blood elf whether they consented or not. Valerra has the green eyes, which means she was one of the survivors of Arthas little tourist tour of her homeland and she fed on the essence of demons to avoid the fate of becoming Wretched. There’s no penalty free road of “renouncing your citizenship”. That’s not an acknowledged license to avoiding your obligations.

And I seem to recall there was a fair amount of head-scratching when she appeared there too.

No, she was around the fel crystals powering the city long enough for her eyes to be affected. Feeding directly on the essence of demons was just for Kael’s inner circle, which there’s no evidence Valeera ever was part of.

For Valeera, I think the point has been driven home enough. She was allowed to be sold into slavery by the Horde, saved and befriended by the King of the Alliance. No betrayal there, she never had any allegiance to anyone else; and blood may be thicker than water, but honor is thicker than blood. The Wrynns are her family now.

Valeera would have been a child in Silvermoon, so you are correct. There’s no way she was taking part in that.

For Alleria its a pretty big gray area. I mean, its a mind trip if you think about it. She sacrificed herself for her people when they were still Alliance. Then fights a thousand years against the Legion to come back and find that her people are now Blood Elves, went through a nice little mana-junkie phase, enslaved a Naaru, and joined the Horde. She wasnt there for a lot of what happened and doesnt agree with a lot of what happened. So, she stayed Alliance. However, this will always be a conflict in her heart because she genuinly wants the Blood Elves to flourish, and obviously would also want them in the Alliance.

Plus… there have been High Elves in the Alliance this whole time. Alleria’s eyes are blue, not green (she missed all the fun); wouldnt she technically count as another High Elf?

The difference between “Member of the Alliance” and “Totally loyal to the leader of the Alliance” is so trivial as to be essentially non-existent. You’re splitting a hair the size of an electron.

Except she’s apparently perfectly chill hanging out with leaders of the Horde too, as noted above. I’d find her more consistent if she just 100% went Alliance, frankly. Or at least talked about her home/the Horde occasionally, to give us some idea of why she doesn’t completely sever those ties.

Yeah… kinda wishing Blizz would have done their homework better for that scene.

Lore Valeera would never expose herself like that, being a spy after all, and having no actual affiliation with the Horde. Hardly any in the Horde would have ever even seen her in the background; Baine only having a clue of who she is due to his secret correspondences with Anduin…

In-Game Valeera however, is apparently absolutely terrible at her job.

Valeera is totally loyal to the leader of the Alliance, and she never pretended to be loyal to anyone else (which is a necessary condition for a traitor: feigned loyalty).

She may be many things, but not a traitor.

Word. And the weirdest thing about all of this is that once upon a time she was much better at her job: When she appeared at all, she was nondescript enough that even we couldn’t identify her as Valeera.

You do understand that every single High Elf is considered a traitor to Quel’thelas?
