... Do you guys actually know what borrowed power is?

They are the highway patrols that make me look like a bug.

I don’t have an issue with the type of borrowed power the ring is here. I have only an issue with borrowed power systems that classes were stripped down for, because it left classes feeling horrible in between expacs.

All borrowed power isn’t the same or all bad.

Borrowed power is not a drop, it is a system.

GF is not a system and has persisted across multiple xpacs even if you are trying to argue that UI interface components are a power system.

I am only for argument sake to convey the silliness of how people throw borrowed power out for their own particular qualms. Artifact/Azurite/Anima (all AP) Power are borrowed power. Hopefully it never comes back.

I guess you’re right. Everybody on the planet is an idiot but you. Happy? Actually you sound very, very angry. What player who didn’t like having their previously baseline talents ripped away and forced to choose between them touched you inappropriately?

Lots of talents have gone away though, or been changed so much they might as well have gone away (and on the other hand, some of the previously “borrowed” abilities are now talents and you can have them “permanently” if you want).

There’s a reason some people say only transmog is forever – and even THAT is only as long as Blizzard lets it be that way, although since transmog doesn’t affect character power, they usually have no reason to want to remove it ever. Power is always subject to future design or balance changes.

Yes talents have gone away but that’s more due to reworks than “borrowed power”. At the end of the day talents get removed or taken away but you still have talents. Now if they made it so at the end of every xpac you lost all your talents and had to start earning talents again in the next xpac, that’d be borrowed power.

I had to take a look at your profile after reading that. Best laugh I had all day! We went from hot pink / red chars to now an old mid 2000’s SNL skit!! I’m dying over here! :joy:

Tier sets are borrowed power.

The only time the Ring, Punchcard, etc are borrowed power, is when the power on the item is removed.

If the item is made weak because something stronger comes out, it’s not that the power went away it’s that the power pales in comparison to new power.

That’s called progression.

By the strictest of definitions, all gear is “borrowed power” in that the stats it give you is temporary until the point where you unequip it.

The new ring is borrowed power as much as any other piece of gear is with the level of power it gives you respective of your overall total power in question. In Legion, your “borrowed power” artifact was hugely responsible for your total overall power because it granted you a massively powerful ability and abilities that were akin to extra talents buffing you. BfA had “borrowed power” in your azerite gear pieces trading stats for effects (very similar to the ring now) and then later your neck itself coming with powerful effects too.

So yes, the ring is “borrowed power” insofar that it is meant to be a “significant” part of your overall total output capabilities with the intent that it will go away sooner rather than later and leave you with, likely, the same old boring stats again.

I feel borrowed power is like dessert, a little bit can be great, but too much gives people stomach aches. Any gear is technically borrowed power, and set pieces/trinkets certainly are. People are fine with that (generally), but people generally seem to agree BFA was too much. Gear + Trinkets + Azerite effects + corruption + essences created an amalgamation that was not really the class, but a thousand procs. Regarding the ring, it is certainly a step towards that, but for a .5 patch, I don’t know if it matters too much? We are at least not at BFA levels, and the ring seems fairly optional to me as at this point it would only be a boost to those who have not met their goals.

Edit: .7 patch or whatever it is

Agree with you.

Technically lots of things are borrowed power, people wanting to complain just use the term to whine lol.

Borrowed power isnt bad, legendary gems and cloak in MoP was a win. The ring from WoD was cool, but it was kinda goofy to raid with since 1 person was designated to use it. But it was fun watching stuff blow up lol.

Legion artifact weapons were really cool, the fail with them was the diminishing returns on the AP grind each week. That got annoying after awhile.

Azurite Armor was just bad.

Covenants sucked.

Blizzard has done borrowed power correctly in the past, its just the borrowed power in BFA/Shadowlands was a total fail.

The Raz bow is borrowed power and it’s a passive effect, I think something becomes borrowed power when you get a 30% damage increase after equipping it.
