Do some races need model updates?

Just pointing out the current player models are as old as the vanilla ones were when they got replaced.
Just sayin

The male Human arms are too thick, and the Night Elf males faces are just ugly for the most part. Also, all males of every race need to no longer look/be emasculated.

People keep saying this. But I disagree — and I also play SWTOR.

I was excited, initially, to make alts of different races to check out their customizations (I was already a long-time WoW player at this point).

I was extremely disappointed by SWTOR’s customizations.

I was shocked to discover that every single race and gender had the EXACT same faces! Down to the numbers! They had the same features, hair styles, scars, eye colors… the only (very few) unique features are stuff like Zabrak horns, Mirialian tattoos, Torguta montrals… and they’re identical between the genders.

Seriously. You could, if you want to, roll a Cyborg male that looks identical to a Zabrak female (sans horns) that looks identical to a Mirialian male (sans tattoos) that looks identical to a Human female…

You get the idea. The races do have unique colors, and that’s it!

Coming from WoW’s “every race-and-gender have unique features” (sans void elves), it was a big disappointment for me.

EDIT: oh, and the fact that they all share the same rigging and animations! Same running animation, same talking animations (seriously, I could imitate those in my sleep), and same “AFK” animations… even combat to a part, too. Big letdown for me.

Lol, I legit forgot about SWTOR.

Yeah, every race is basically a different shade of human.

At least some have different head shapes, but yeah that’s basically it.

It’s funny that Star Wars Galaxies, the MMO before SWTOR, had better customization. And you could play more alien races.

I played an Ithorian in SWG. They had two mouths on the sides of their neck.

Sorry I went on a bit of a rant there. I’ve had so many people tell me that SWTOR’s customization is top-tier.

Yeah… it’s not. It’s really, really not.

I agree. It’s definitely not as bad as the original models were before WoD released, but I think it would go a long ways to give all of the races a second pass, clean up some of the options that are already there (a lot of Human hairstyles look pretty rough, for example), and maybe rework things a bit for races that really need it.

Night Elves, for example; the Males should be much more muscular (doesn’t have to be a hulking beast like the artwork, but much more lean), and the Female model could stand to be a little more muscular (Tyrande’s model in Shadowlands was absolutely gorgeous, some of Blizzard’s best work).

Technically not quiet, while the first model updates did start in late 2014 the last one wasn’t added to the game till Sept 2019 in patch 8.2.5 in BFA with the Worgen and Goblin. Then a lot of the races got updates with the new customizations in Shadowlands. Leaving the Pandaren with the low-HD model they have now.

The spiky ones? yeah, those look awful.

I would also add Vannesa’s hairstyle (Forgot the name of it, but she uses it)

Pandaren definitely need an update.

They need to remove the hunch from Male Worgen or make it an option like they had with Orcs. Female Worgen need to have their neck straightened upwards a bit more, it’s currently forward-hunched and it causes clipping issues. All Worgen need a rework of their mane and given actual hair. The mane clips into way too much.

Female Tauren need to have their leg length increased and torso length decreased slightly.

This is not a thing for me. A couple of xpacs back they upgraded all the character models and I think they are fine. I know devs like to top themselves, but I don’t need to buy a super expensive high powered computer , just to move in wow.

Anyway , I thought the idea was to keep wow Xbox friendly?

I mean, this isnt meant to be an HD upgrade, its more of a fixing/tweaking the models type of thing.

Night Elves having weird looking waists.

The spiky hair options of humans.

The piercings of Mag’har.

Etc.

Only race that would need an HD tune up and it would be minor, would be the Pandaren.

huh! thats a pandaren i would play.
I dont like the current model so i dont play it.

I think Blizzard has the money to update every race, they should do it.
ill love some new haircuts for goblins, and beards!

Male worgen could use a straight posture option like orcs got and worgen in general would look amazing with the option of a tail added

Male Night elves and Nightborne need to get their pencil waists fixed.

Worgen shoulders have major problems both male and female. Many of them are too big, or too wide. I can forgive not getting helmets to fit correctly all the time but anyone at a glance can tell these shoulders are messed up.

It was… but the new models actually surpassed the quality of Pandaren by a sizable margin…

Besides bringing Pandaren up to the same final quality they brought the rest up to… I don’t really think any races need entire model updates or reworks… some certainly do need some major customization expansions though…

Every race should have multiple pages of customization options…

Humans: add some tattoo options and jewelry options for standard humans… include Gilnean and Kul’tiran style cosmetics, as well as some from other human civilizations.

Undead: just add more options… more body rott choices… upright undead… half elf undead… etc… mismatched limb rott states would be nice too…

Worgen: separate the scars from the face textures already, add optional tails, and warpaint options… also add the Gilnean jewelry to Worgen forms too, and create some Worgen hairstyles that are based on their human counterparts…

Mechagnome: separate out the face augments into Eyes, Ears, Jaw… ley us mix and match and build our own ffa e augment combination… also, add the eye augment that is currently only visible with certain helmets… and make some better arm & leg augment options… including options that start at the Knees & Elbows or mismatched limbs…

Draenei: tattoos… fel-pocked options as well for those who unlocked Man’ari customization… forehead sigils too since we have seen these on Draenei long before Lightforged Draenei were even a thing…

Blood Elves & Void Elves: Tattoos… Void Elves need some Void tattoos like Aleria & Xal’atath… and Both need High Elf style tattoos in general…

Mag’har: add the rest of the Mag’har clans… and give them the same level of customization that standard Orcs got after their release… also give both Mag’har and standard Orcs the option for hunched female Orcs…

Zandalari: more Tatoos… perhaps even add Nazmani customizations, even if doing so requires a quest to bring a splinter tribe of Nazmani into the Horde.

All races: can we please get a shoulder armor size toggle or something to fix the egregiously large (or sometimes small) shoulder armors? And for crying out loud… can we get them to actually attach to our characters please… so many good looking shoulder armors are virtually unusable because they float way off our shoulders and are massively disproportionate.

what i would change/fix

add upright options for troll, undead, worgen
redesign tauren so they have a head that sits ontop of their shoulders and not jut forward out of their body
add shoe toggle for races that cannot wear them
add body type 3 that would essentially be a slender male body but more boxy and angular for an androgynous/slender look
voice option for humans to allow them to choose between sounding like a kul tiran, stormwind, or gilnean human

model updates? no… more and more new customizations, yes! also stop reworking everything and just add more and more new stuff shouldnt take 10 years to make a new class or a new race; especially ones that people have pleaded for for years. (cough…cough…sethrak)

Ever played a female Worgen? Here’s a little trick to Worgen. Worgen use Tauren shoulders and the Worgen models are smaller than what they should be. Worgen are supposed to be 8 feet tall. But in game they are only 6 feet 11 inches. Blizzard knew Worgen were the same size as the Tauren models so they used female Tauren sized shoulders on Worgen that’s why they float so high on the model and are really silly big compared to what they should be. If Blizzard was to keep the shoulders as they are and scale up the Worgen model to the right size they would fit much better and not look so comically large.
