Why even have classes or specs? We should just combine everything into one giant homogeneous pile.
As player characters? Sure. It doesnât hurt my immersion, thatâs a you problem.
Uh, not really. If you choose to let it matter to you, cool, but players donât have to abide by your arbitrary standards.
Weâve killed essentially warcraft gods, Aspects of the earth and magic, eldritch beings. We are entirely special snowflake main characters.
Exactly! As someone who has been playing since classic and played the RTS games, I care about the story.
Anyone of any race that becomes a warlock is in a grey area.
Warlocks get a pass from me personally because theyâve always been the exception to the âculture ruleâ for playable race/class combos. Theyâre only accepted by a handful of cultures and live in literal basements otherwise.
Those are Blizzardâs stated standards, not mine. Believe it or not, I donât personally control what classes you can play.
Nah, I think they have found a better solution in that if you do care about race class restrictions thereâs earlier versions of the game for you to play instead where it still exists.
Those were dumb choices, and I would prefer they not make more like that. I care!
Guess I need to go back and read the blizzard rule book where they wrote down âall player characters must abide by the standard rank and file beginning, you are hereby not allowed to apply your own ideas or backstory to your character outside of your nameâ
Other people getting huffy because they donât think somebody should be able to play a gnome druid is ridiculous.
So, we are forced into not experiencing the new story? That is a poor choice.
I see, weâre using childish hyperbole.
Well, throw your tantrum all you like. Recent statements from Blizzard suggest theyâve put a stop to opening up class/race combinations, so I hope you donât get what you want.
Those two races specifically HAD a huge bias towards being Warlocks at one point.
Before this whole âlet any race be anythingâ drive, there was a 0% chance Draenei or Tauren would be Warlocks and not be evil. The only time you saw a space goat Warlock was an Eredar Manâari, because that was the path to being a Warlock for them, and they became part of the Legion.
Now itâs just âeh, they were Legion before, but we like them again, so⌠Warlocks for everyone I guess?â
Iâve accepted it. I created a Manâari Warlock myself, red skin and all. Thatâs the only way I could be ok with playing it.
You never answered if you thought Gnome druids were a good idea. Should read the lore. Gnomes are not known for being a faith-based culture.
Yeah, the Manâari are a weird case. If I had my way then Draenei warlocks would be locked into those customizations, but I guess they had to let it slide.
But in any case, my point is that warlocks are counter-culture by definition so it doesnât really matter if theyâre accepted by their people or not. You can head-canon it that theyâre undercover whenever in polite society, giant flaming skull shoulderguards notwithstanding.
That is a very weird class combo! Just because we have it does not mean we need more like that.
chatgpt charles over here
I did actually answer that, I said it does not matter or affect me. Gnomes would make perfectly fine druids if the player playing them chooses to give them a reason to be. Thereâs no reason I shouldnât be able to say âmy gnome rejected technology and chose to attune with nature insteadâ
Also gnomes can already be priest, an entirely faith-based class.
Gnome Priests are pretty easy to let slide though.
Forsaken Priests and Paladins thoughâŚ
Even Blizzard once said âTechnically all Undead Priests are Shadow Priests BUT we couldnât lock a race out of certain specs, so⌠I guess you can be a Holy Priest shrugâ
Just a âWell, nothing we can do about it, it is what it is.â
What is it about seeing other people play race and class combinations ruins the game for you though?
It proves the lore doesnât matter and any race+class combo can be given a flimsy âloreâ background story to support it.
Just give up and embrace the Mechagnome Druids and Forsaken Shamans.
But I like my Earthen pally. It feels like Vision using Mjolnir. Also one I feel that cant be corrupted by the light.
