I think it should be noted that these are KEYBINDs. My Brewmaster bars are just silly. So many things that I don’t want to hunt trough bags or UIs to find so they are on a bar… added with abilities and its just silly.
Its made worse by how many of those buttons get used often. There are so many brewmaster buttons you need constantly. Its just obnoxious. I have played Monk and mostly Brew since MoP release and this is the worst it has felt imo.
SCK and RJW where generally either or not both. Shadowlands talents are more buttons. Dampen Harm, Diffuse Magic and a few others had limited access as well so even if we wanted we couldn’t load up with anywhere near as many buttons as we have now.
Disc priest probably could consistently hit double digit presses, but it’s also a spec known for being “training wheels off” AND it’s getting streamlined in 10.2
Outside of that, some mage specs, but that lends to their playstyle being more interesting than less.
Anything else and I’m more curious where they’re finding extra buttons that DO much often enough to even press outside of the 5ish you mentioned
A few of the healer specs are quite bloated at the moment speaking as someone playing several of them. All the monk specs are exceptionally bloated, but that’s been said a million times at this point.
I don’t know too many of the rest that are really bloated. It’s more that several of them have maintenance buttons that really are boring. Seraphim level stuff where you’re just pushing this to do a bit more damage, or this ability that does nearly the exact same thing as your main spam, but with just slightly more damage. Sometimes pressing 1 a couple extra times isn’t going to change things at all from an APM standpoint. That’s what I would consider bloat personally.
One example that comes to mind is having shadowbolt spam be a thing again on locks where it really didn’t add anything interesting to the rotation. The interesting buttons are all the other stuff. Shadow priest has a few extras too that could be burned back into other abilities.
There’s other options than just adding another keypress to the mix that can make it fun to play. Perhaps we go the combo route of FFXIV where hitting them in sequence produces some sort of finisher keypress that is part of another one. Think Disc priest with SCOV, except not an extra button. I like the idea of buttons that build too similar to what the monk has on mistweaver with tiger palm/blackout kick multihitting.
Then there’s poor specs like Guardian. Raze is just… thrash that spends rage instead of building it. But the spec has so little ways to dump rage that it needed an aoe spender. How do you reconcile that? There’s not really any way to trim the keys down without completely making it brain dead, but raze isn’t more interesting by itself than thrash, and both could fill the same role. I don’t have an answer for this one, but it isn’t deleting the keys that’s for sure.
If you are using Cheap Shot, Blind, Pick Pocket, Gouge, Sprint, Sap, Distract, or feint on you pve rotation, that explains your train of thought, since you clearly have a brain tumor.
I accept your need to try to insult as a sign of not having an argument at all and concession to the topic.
I mean, to try to claim that DISTRACT and PICK POCKET is for anything other than PvE and that Sap and blind (aka crowd control) is not used for all kinds of content is a sure sign of being a troll.
Just ever more proof that those attempting to argue in favor of fewer skills have no leg to stand on…perhaps they should have opted to have those as an option in their arguing rotation instead of complaining that having more than 2 limbs was too many limbs.
its not the buttons bloat. Its not even the roation, so much. Its the combat pacing. Everything is too fast paced and an aoe fest. Its so diluted, makes me wonder why they even graphically design enemies. Just make them a floating box that drop loot at this point.
I agree that there is button bloat but I think the real contributor is the way talent trees are designed. In many situations they force you to take abilities that you may not want, to simply unlock the next area of the tree.
At one point as a resto shaman at 70 I literally just didn’t even finish the talent tree because nothing appealed to me.
THat’s the thing though . Just becasue you nned to pick a button ability to get to the next area of the tree doesn’t mean you actually have to use the said button ability .
People have it in their head that just because they have something means they have to use it . THe only button abilities that need to be keybound are the ones that are regualrly used like a spec’s main attack abilities and main cool downs. Any thing else is situational and can either be keybound if there are extra keys available or set on a bar for mouse clicks.
Sites like wowhead and icy veins have standard rotations for specs and are a good way for people to see if they are using abilities they really don’t need to use .
Button BLoat is a player created problem because people feel the need to use everything when they honestly really don’t need to .
I hate “extra” buttons (and wasn’t mad at pruning, it was the raid or die part of wod that sucked), but the good thing is I don’t actually need to take them. Mindgames on my shadowpriest? I don’t care if it’s meta it’s SL crap and I just don’t care. I hate hate hate stuff that’s on a one minute cooldown or more because it means I can’t even press it every combat, so it just sucks up a slot and effing sucks.
Same goes for the night fae spell on this character, it literally breaks my immersion to be using a spell from last expansion (whether I chose that covenant or not is irrevelevant) and I’ll take any other talent no matter what meta says.
As long as they let us opt out of most of these extraneous buttons without outright screwing ourselves, it will be alright.
Also just for the record there are spells I kind of want to take like ice nova and ring of frost, but I just don’t ever use them and the cooldown makes it so it’s not a vital part of rotation. I took comet storm and ice ray basically for the lulz, the rest can go to hel for all I care.
And I still feel like I have about three more abilities than I’d ideally want. For every weirdo that wants every single key bound +ctrl shift and alt, there’s a weirdo like me who just wants a svelte hotbar. I like that hunter could at one point be played with one hand, and I don’t feel like the game gets any deeper when it asks us to bind a lot of situational and just really not very unique keys.
Oh snap, this button does MORE DPS. It has a different name but all it amounts to is MORE DPS. That’s the entire problem if you want my honest assessment.
