When in marksman, rarely, unless the group specifically needs a pet skill which is rare.
If i’m doing content where I need a pet I typically swap to BM.
We have three specs, take advantage of it

As a player who rotates between BM and MM I use a pet with both specs that is what a hunter does right lol. Only time as MM I don’t use a pet is when I get flushed down the toilet of WOW because I just want to get crap done and get out of the craphole.

I am speced for both MM/BM, but have always liked playing MM w/ a pet since I created my toon toward the tail end of Vanilla. The problem is w/ what they did to the pets using MM in the game. All of the hunter specs used to have for their pets both “Go for Throat” and “Bestial Wrath”, regardless of which hunter spec you used. When the games creators decided to let hunters who hated lone wolf and wanted to have their pets again, they gave us back our pets again, but totally took away their dps boosting abilities that also saved us in many situations in raids. Now, all I hear from my Raid Leads in my guild is drop the pet when raiding in Shadowlands. Frankly, I don’t want to. The reason I play this game and stay w/ it is for the fact of taming my own pets which you can’t do in any other game. Other games may give you a pet, but it’s not the one that you would personally like. Back to raiding w/ a pet, when RL calls out to stay on add in Mythic Eye and you have to run to chains fast, you can’t have your pet do the added dps for you at all since Throat and Wrath are gone. There are many situations in SOD where you need to run while maintaining dps and having those tools that your pet needs would really help. Also lone wolfers are getting a 10% boost for not only ST, but AOE so they are scoring higher in the meters than those of us who still like using our pets. Blizz still has work to do to make both playing w/ or w/o a pet equal in the spec
