Do any guilds still try to scam their members with loot councils?

Egh…I type quickly and prefer to give context. I properly space and it’s only like 1 minute of reading material. If that’s beyond someones ability to read through, they aren’t the type of person who should be holding debates on a forum anyway.

I’m WAY too literal – I thought you were actually asking a question, because the title is in the form of a question.

But reading the first post, I realized it is not a question. It’s an opinion: loot councils are all “scams”, and (all) people are incapable of handling loot.

I guess this is worth debating, for other people with an opinion.

my guild’s loot council has always been very fair, but there will always be someone unhappy with it unfortunately. One of our good dps warriors recently gquit because of perceived corruption (even though he was first to get BiS one handers AND Ashkandi)… Makes no sense but it’s not a system for everyone

We run LC in our guild and everyone is happy with it because we’re a bunch of boomer dads that don’t care about loot. In our year of doing it, no one has complained about it being a bad system, so it just sounds like you had some bad personal experiences with some not-so trustworthy people. That’s the beauty of a LC-run guild. If it is corrupt, then you will leave. Otherwise, you’re just not too intelligent.

If the title is in the form of a question then I skip the post and answer the question. Done!

I had one issue with my loot council guild, but that was resolved immediately as soon as I brought it up.

They had made a mistake and thought I got 2-3 drops that I had not before we started tracking things.

It was resolved and I got prio on 1-2 drops when BWL came out.

My guild is full loot council. There are four officers always on the council, but then 3-4 raiders (not initiates) are promoted for each week’s raids to vote.

Distribution is weighted on position, value of the upgrade (Small vs. BiS, amount of accumulated items given, attendance, seniority, and consistency of preparation or performance.

Some of us were betting on a rage quit when we finally got our first DFT… all the way two weeks into AQ being open, but nah. Some of the non-veterans know extremely coveted items will usually get passed over the newer members. I mean, if you’ve been in the guild 3 weeks, you’re probably not getting Death’s Sting over someone with 100% attendance without a lot of other factors weighing it. Any sidegrades, very small upgrades, fun items, or PvP items are rolled off. Classes/specs sometimes all get together to decide on what items they’ll go for, such as not every Fury warrior has or wants Edgemaster’s Handguards for the additional melee options.

My guild has used loot council for 12+ years and people love it. Go play retail if you can’t find a guild that isn’t awful with it. These people that want to complain instead of just leaving a bad guild already ruined retail how about we leave this dumb talk out of classic.

Easy fix to that is to not bring a boomkin. Besides, there are variants that have restrictions on hybrids.

loot council is fine. my guild uses it with no issue, it’s actually crazy how fair our officers tend to be with loot.

Sounds like OP is more of a casual player. Soft Res is better suited for pugs, it would cause some real issues for dedicated raiders who come each week.

Your options for guilds are EPGP (DKP), Performance/Attendance based spreadsheets, and Loot Council.

LC provides flexibility that no other system really does, you can make the best choice for your team, whether thats to make them happy or optimize isn’t relevant.

Most points systems can punish people heavily if their item doesn’t drop for months, as at that point they would take another item first, or decay starts to play against them. Loot Council removes any thought from that.

The main draw to Loot Council is it’s ease, it doesnt take a lot of officer upkeep and you can discuss loot as it comes without elaborate systems that attempt to solve DKPs weak points.

LC will never be perfect, but none of these systems are… I don’t think your narrow point of view is very fair considering plenty of guilds LC successfully.

Usually translates to: I’ve I’ve reasons to give loot to my friends when people question me.

Just like someone saying I skip out on raids, when I have only missed 2 in 9 months, to excuse giving every DFT to their buddy rogues over the tanks.

Authoritarian power structures appeal to some people, for whatever reason.

That sounds like an issue with your guild, not the system itself.

DKP for current content soft reserves for raids on farm. Mains have priority in the soft reserves if they are after something that hasn’t dropped. I’ve always used dkp in online games and it works for me.

Another whine thread about LC guilds.

If they are so horrible and you don’t like them as a distribution system, just don’t play in one. Problem solved. Thanks.

I don’t quite understand the logic behind a soft res system. I’ve joined 2 or 3 pugs that were using a soft res and each time that one item I really wanted had like 5 or 6 people reserving it. So what’s the point?

If every healer running a soft res ZG is going to reserve Jin’dos evil eye then is it really reserved? If every mage and warlock running a PUG BWL is going to reserve staff of the shadow flame, what’s the point in reserving it? You still end up having to roll against everyone else. Then you have 1 randoms person soft res this item and that item and this item… you end up not being able to roll on anything except your reserved item and you lose it to one of the other 10 people rolling on it. Lol

Soft res is a bad system but zoomers think it helps fight corruption. So of course it’s taking hold.

A proper priority as determined by whom? A council, perhaps? Hope you realize the irony in that.

I agree, which is why personal loot is awful. People often get more than fair share because the system is totally random and doesn’t account for performance, attendance, etc.

If you want people to not fight over loot, they should stop being greedy and consider what’s best for the group.

I can tell. You’re a retail character.

That’s definitely not a raid healing spec if you’ve only got 12 points in Balance.

No, you definitely don’t. The only spec that does lower DPS is Ret.

Only the MT really needs DFT, anyway. Tanks have plenty of options, and only need 6% hit. The offensive power gain of giving a tank a DFT is far minimal compared to giving it to a Rogue.

But man, you’re a gray parser. You’re literally in the bottom 9% of players. It’s actually difficult to imagine a Rogue that does LESS DPS than you. There’s a VERY good reason you’re not getting loot.

Yeah, because a loot priority to classes is the same as singling out a player and feeding that player multiple pieces of gear amirite?
.
The boomkin point was pretty hilarious though lol.

Notice how a lot of people the demonize loot council guilds cite their personal experience with “multiple” loot council guilds as all being corrupt.

Thats probably because in my experience these kinds of people are self centered loot goblins that frequently guild hop, which ends up ironically validating the loot council’s decision not to give them the loot they wanted in the first place that they felt “cheated” out of getting.

They join an established guild thats been together for awhile, raid a couple weeks, and then quit after not getting some big ticket item they feel entitled to while not factoring anything other than their personal desires into the decision. Completely oblivious to the fact that some of the other people have likely been waiting potentially months for that item as well and have put in way more time and effort into the guild than them and proved their loyalty. Just because they do better dps or whatever then them they feel entitled to it over someone thats been in that guild for FAR longer and have put in the time.

Just because you’re a better player doesn’t automatically mean you’re the best choice to give the best loot to right off the bat. Many times these “good” players just end up hopping guilds for the next best thing and have that guild regretting their decision to give them so much of their good drops instead of to the people that were maybe not quite as good performers but showed up consistently and will be around for the long haul
