I remember hearing at one time that the original concept for the death knight class was that a player would start as a different class and would do a questline to become a death knight. Does anyone else remember this?
If this were true, I think it would be neat to bring this idea back with any rework to the class. I think it would be cool notion if you could retain some aspect of the class you once were. A mage DK that could blizzard, a warrior DK that could use a shield, a rogue DK that could stealth, etc.
I am in the same boat for remembering stuff. The plus side to that is you can find the same old jokes funny again since you can’t remember the punchlines.
Maybe in SoD or something like it where silly experimental stuff can happen and balance doesn’t matter. This would never fly in the real game for obvious reasons.
Also I think the mechanical issues with changing a specific character into a different class would probably break literally everything. Even faction changes tend to cause butterfly effect problems that require extensive work to fix.
iirc it was a part of wrath alpha but changed because of community outcry at having to destroy a toon just to play the new class. for instance, what if they didn’t like the new class, how would they go back?.
Back when me a few friends were dumb at WoW we thought DK was an optional upgrade to your class because of the promotion video of the warrior surrounded by undead.
DK’s need a rework as it is so why not toss in a few ideas to spitball around. I do not play my DK other than for professions. The class feels outdated and rotations are clunky to me. The decline for me to play my DK was when they isolated tanking just to blood. I played a frost tank without issue with it being great to have a dual wielding tank. The unholy tank was nice to have your own personal offtank being your ghoul.
I’d be game to try this out in SOD. I am a fan of some unbalance as it is part of the class fantasy. DPS shouldn’t be tanky, Tanks shouldn’t outheal the healers, every class doesn’t need everything.
