Disposable Hotdog, My Beloved

Dio, all of 5’3" but he had the grandest voice ever in heavy metal. I’ll die on that hill.

dude’s voice is legend, and he was a really cool dude.

Invisible is one of my favorite songs. How he writes lyrics from three different perspectives was really cool. Pretty progressive content, too.

that beautiful intro played by vivian campbell could be repeated ad infinitum for all i care…

He was a great storyteller and a very kind individual. Never let his fame go to his head.

Ugh yeah. Vivian Campbell is a wizard.

My fave Dio song is “As Long as it’s Not About Love”. Really melodic. But it’s Craig Goldy playing guitar.

Gosh, Holy Diver is such a great album. I love Invisible and those groovy riffs.

Yeah, Magica came out in 2000 and I think it was his last great album. He released 2 more under his name Dio. Then 1 more with Black Sabbath, but since Ozzy had officially rejoined Sabbath they had to change their name to Heaven and Hell. Obviously named after Sabbath’s album where Dio debuted as their lead singer. Was called “Devil You Know” and had the Sabbath demon/angel symbol on the cover. I think it came out in 2009, a year before Dio passed away. It is heavy, very doomy. But Magica… it is a concept album, with a 16-18 minute long outro where he reads the story he came up with. The songs tell the story too, but yeah. I love that album.

Losing My Insanity off Magica is so awesome. Some serious 80s metal riffs for coming out in 2000.

man, i need to set aside time to listen to the entire album.

during that time i was listening to new prog rock/metal - dream theater, spock’s beard, flower kings, symphony x. definitely was listening to dio, maiden, etc., but more of the older stuff. got to see dio twice around 2000/2002

It has some really great songs, like 8 or so that I’d call some of his best. Craig Goldy was on Dream Evil from 1988, and then came back for Magica. He came back with RIFFS for days.

I love Dream Theater, and anything with Russell Allen, so those are some great things to be listening to. I love all metal, not much I don’t like. I’m getting older, so I kind of aged out of technical and brutal death metal. I still listen to melodic death metal, but like I can’t do deathcore and such. If I can’t hum a song back, it really isn’t music to me anymore. That is my philosophy.

I don’t know if you have ever listened to Allen-Lande, but they’re a progressive rock band with Russell Allen and Jorn Lande (from Masterplan, Avantasia and such). Its great to hear them duet and sing back and forth. The first 2 are worth a listen at least, “The Battle” and “The Revenge”.

Dude yes. I love Allen and Jorn’s voice is epic!

I like Allen’s solo stuff, too, Atomic Soul

Have been able to seen X a couple times, and Allen’s such a good dude

I love Symphony X, and he’s in SO MANY other bands and stuff. Impossible to keep up with it feels like lol. His discography is two or three times as large as some bands that have been around for 40 years or more.
