I wouldn’t dare join a raid group if I cared at all about my PVP ranking. There’s too much chance that someone will tag NPCs either accidentally or even deliberately.
I realize that they’ll be in Classic so if I’m going for PVP rank I’ll just avoid most world PVP like I did then.
I remember MANY instances where we pushed horde into the actual town itself during WPVP and the next thing we knew a DK got thrown out. This possibility all but killed WPVP at the time because the DK penalty was just too high to even risk it for the serious PVPers. The system was ultimately widely criticized at the time. People that didn’t care about them killed those NPCs with the same impunity and lack of care they always had, and those that did just eventually stopped doing WPVP.
It did not succeed in accomplishing its intended purpose and had overly negative consequences. I know that was in vanilla (I lived it) but this is one change that would’ve better off left out.
Dishonorable kills were given in a player vs player when the toon you killed offered no honor points. If you ganked a lowbie, you would get a DK, which would drop your honor, this mattered when you were trying to gain rank for gear. It would stop SOME from ganking you…SOME! lol
You know it seems you are correct, however I would swear up and down that we got DKs for ganking back when PvP first came about. I wouldn’t gank anyone while I was on the Grand Marshall grind lol.
